Don’t be fooled by the crowds on Main Street – you’ll be seated and served in no time. This popular spot in Fredericksburg cycles through lunch crowds very efficiently, and serves fantastic food (at very fair prices) in the process. The grilled shrimp Mediterranean salad, fresh and well-seasoned at $14.99, is absolutely enough for a meal, and the flavors are seriously vibrant – the welcoming staff including Mrs.
Nury make you feel at home, but it’s also not too far from being necessary given how busy they get.
Hondo’s On Main

Not to be confused with the formal, reservation-required spots in downtown Fredericksburg, Hondo’s On Main is perfect when your “lunch break” is really more like 30 minutes. Despite a focused menu, there are plenty of choices here. You can order the chicken pesto sandwich, Tex-Mex burger, BBQ bacon burger, or crunchies as a sandwich or with a side of curly fries.
Our favorites are the Tex-Mex burger and the chicken pesto sandwich, but no matter what you order, make sure you take advantage of the self-service ordering at the bar that’s right by the entrance. The relaxed patio with live music during the day adds to the laid-back vibe, and the friendly staff even offers water for dogs—making it a welcoming spot to refuel after a morning hike or during a quick midday escape.
Buc’s Bar & Grill

Buc’s Bar & Grill is a lively American spot in Fredericksburg, just off the main drag. You walk through a rustic bar area to get to the karaoke room, where they’re serving crowd-pleasers like classic rock, country hits, and pop anthems – all with a top-notch sound system. Add a plate of their famous crawfish to whatever you’re drinking – it’s spicy and absolutely worth the trip. And don’t leave without belting out a few tunes.

Taqueria Altos De Jalisco

Taqueria Altos De Jalisco is a family favorite for Mexican-American cuisine that’s also one of our go-to taco spots in all of Fredericksburg. You’ll find regulars grabbing breakfast tacos in the morning, groups sharing pitchers of margaritas in the afternoon, and everybody else enjoying those quesadillas. The tacos are their specialty, and while they’re fantastic, the quesadillas are even better.
Frankly though, when the service is as warm, yet genuinely attentive as it is here, we’ll drive across town to eat anything they’re serving.
Hill & Vine

With a name like Hill & Vine, and a location in a cozy, welcoming spot in Fredericksburg that feels perfect for any occasion, this American restaurant certainly doesn’t lack charm. All we know for sure is that this spacious, clean spot serves some of our favorite food in the area. The best dishes here are the onion rings and pesto pasta, and on the drink side of the menu, we love the espresso martini and the great local selection with Texas brands.

Nury’s Breakfast & Lunch is right in the heart of Fredericksburg, serves up delicious American comfort food, and is an ideal spot to grab a satisfying meal any time of day. Despite all that, it’s never too crowded, and we’re not quite sure why – this is great food for the price, in a town that really needs a quick, affordable breakfast and lunch spot.
The Cochinita Pibil is our favorite – it’s packed with amazing flavors, prepared with high-quality ingredients like the strawberry goat cheese salad and excellent tuna salad, and is an ideal way to start any morning or afternoon.
Bankersmith, Texas

The top-ranked American spot on our list is also the best one in town for a relaxed outing. Because unlike the other best restaurants in town, you can grab a burger here, and don’t have to spend $30 on a fancy entrée in order to get your fill. The daily specials change pretty regularly, but our go-tos are the crab, the prime rib, and the fried pickles. You can be in-and-out in 30 minutes, but we’re usually here much longer… because we keep going back for the backyard fun.
Cabernet Grill Texas Wine Country Restaurant

A cozy spot in Fredericksburg, Cabernet Grill is an ideal place for a quiet dinner or special celebration. They serve Texas wine country cuisine, including things like flounder, quail, gnocchi, and a lion’s mane mushroom that tastes like really exquisite earthy goodness. Every meal comes with some version of their friendly service, but we recommend grabbing an extra glass of wine to complement your food and atmosphere.
They’ve also got outdoor seating with misters and fountains, so you can spend less time worrying about the heat, and more time enjoying the relaxing setting.
Hidden Hideaway On Main

Fredericksburg has some of the best American dining in Texas, and if you’re looking for a genuine local experience, head to Hidden Hideaway On Main. Unlike some of the larger establishments along Main Street, this cozy spot keeps things relaxed, casual, and reasonably priced. There are around a dozen different dishes on the menu (as well as some strong drinks and appetizers), but we recommend going for their standout item, the crunch wrap quesadilla.
It’s an incredibly satisfying meal, and if the name sounds heavy, just know there’s nothing overwhelming about it. On weekends, expect some parking challenges.
BurgerBurger

There are plenty of spots offering American classics in downtown Fredericksburg. The problem is that most of them are either predictable chains, or places so mediocre you wouldn’t even take your visiting in-laws there. Luckily, you can just go to BurgerBurger. This delightful spot has one of our favorite smash burgers in the entire area (just pickled jalapeños and avocado if you want) served in a kid-friendly patio space that’s ideal for sitting and enjoying a family gathering.
After you’ve finished your meal, be sure to order a banana with Nutella boozy shake.
Silver Creek Beer Garden & Grille

Silver Creek Beer Garden & Grille is the outdoor-friendly version of a classic Texas beer garden, and is just as much a staple in Fredericksburg as any traditional restaurant. Plus, the food is just as good, and everything is reasonably priced. It’s easy to feel like a tourist ordering sausage platters in Fredericksburg, but the ones here are so good that we really don’t care.
For something a little less hearty, go for the crab cake Benedict or Reuben sandwich – they’re both great, and come with tasty rye bread. After you order at the counter, head to the covered outdoor seating with fans and you’ll find some tables where dogs are welcome too.
