Henry’s Bar & Restaurant
$$ | (510) 845-8981 | WEBSITE
Tucked away near The Graduate Hotel, Henry’s is a lively Saturday night destination with some of the best retro-inspired vibes in Alameda. We’re big fans of their Henry’s Burger, cooked exactly as requested and arriving within 15 minutes—perfect when you want to escape the usual weekend crowds. Their beer selection is solid, though cocktails can lean a bit syrup-y. The place draws a fun mix of mid-lifers and students, giving it that classic Berkeley energy.
Service moves slowly when it’s busy, with servers seeming stretched thin but staying friendly through it all. For around $15-20 per entree, it’s a consistent choice for a nostalgic night out.
Eli’s Mile High Club
$ | (510) 808-7565 | WEBSITE
Eli’s Mile High Club is Oakland’s punk-rock institution and maybe its best spot for people-watching. Channel your inner Henry Rollins and invent backstories for the leather-clad regulars and tattooed newcomers who are gathering for loud nights and late shows. It’s a solid choice for any evening, especially if you can snag a spot in the massive courtyard.
Prioritize anything involving comfort food, specifically the burger piled high with classic fixings and the simple, always-available fries and tots perfect for soaking in the chill Oakland vibe.
Yeti Sports Bar and Restaurant | Nepalese Indian Restaurant Berkeley
$ | (510) 879-7700 | WEBSITE
Yeti Sports Bar and Restaurant, which you might know from the Berkeley food scene or their lively Himalayan theme, has a spot right here in Alameda. Yeti does classic bar favorites really well, like juicy burgers and crispy wings, served to the background of a sports atmosphere that’s perfect for game nights with friends.
It generally feels like a typical sports bar—you know, multiple big screens broadcasting live games and energetic indoor spaces where the friendly crowd somehow makes the drinks taste better. The best entertainment is on Wednesdays and Fridays, which feature karaoke with impressive singing, but they host fun salsa nights on Saturdays you can check out even if you’re not a regular.
TipTop Tavern
$$ | (510) 278-6585 | WEBSITE
There are plenty of chill neighborhood bars around the Bay Area where you can hang out, drink, and feel like you’re at something resembling a friend’s living room. It used to be hard to find a similar spot in San Leandro, until TipTop Tavern opened. It feels like a party in da backyard—the last time we were here, we were sipping Sierra Nevada pints and Diet Cokes at 11:30pm when the staff packed up, shut down, and told us to clean up after ourselves on our way out.
That was after we had taken down their excellent lumpia and lemon pepper strips that come hot and made fresh, all with that homemade taste. They also do really good bar food like the tastiest lumpia and a bunch of great cocktails mixed by knowledgeable bartenders.

1400 Bar & Grill
$$ | (510) 263-9651 | WEBSITE
Dating back decades, the building that houses 1400 Bar & Grill is one of Alameda’s classic neighborhood spots. It was originally a local gathering place, but nowadays, it’s all Greek wings and lamb burgers here. This cozy bar and grill has some of the most comforting food in town, and historic photos on the walls to match.
What makes this place so special, though, is the friendly service, how perfectly the kid-friendly atmosphere has been maintained, and the fact that you’ll probably enjoy fish and chips and spam fries next to families and Sunday NFL fans. After your meal, you’ll get the option to sip a Mangotini cocktail that’s mixed right at the bar and some homemade tartar sauce you definitely won’t want to share.
London Bar & Grill
$$ | (510) 626-2501 | WEBSITE
There’s no better spot in Oakland’s Marriott than London Bar & Grill to dig into fish and chips and a classic burger. They call themselves a bar and grill, but they excel at all types of comfort food, including crispy calamari. Their flatbread pizza during happy hour can easily satisfy two people and is the perfect combination of crispy and savory.
The welcoming atmosphere is great for some quick drinking and snacks, where you can sit at a cozy booth and make your way through fresh beer and appetizers.
The Garden Grille & Bar
$$ | (510) 658-9300 | WEBSITE
The Garden Grille & Bar is where you should go with friends to relax, enjoy the view, and eat satisfying food. There’s a welcoming atmosphere, great bar and grill classics, and staff who act as your personal hosts—they’ll make you feel at home, and you should trust their recommendations. Go with the grilled options, a burger, and the seafood special if you’re here when it’s fresh (which is often with the nearby marina).
The Garden Grille does the best version in Alameda, as theirs is paired with crisp sides and house sauces. They have a great open dining area with clean rooms and a spacious parking lot that might be our favorite place to watch the bay from the walking trail.
Oaks Corner
$ | (415) 548-5806 | WEBSITE
Oaks Corner has been a neighborhood favorite in Alameda for as long as anyone can recall. Since opening, this friendly spot has been serving up exceptional Asian-American fare, including standout Chinese dishes and seafood soup, to locals and regulars alike. They have a casual setup with a bar, big-screen TVs, and a relaxed vibe, but if you’re craving their famous egg rolls or delicious rice dishes, head to their Alameda location.
They happen to be one of those places where the seafood soup is so good, you’ll miss it when you’re gone. Wash it all down with a cold beer from the bar.
Diamonds Sports Bar & Grill
$ | (510) 638-7777 | WEBSITE
Diamonds Sports Bar & Grill is a perfect spot for a casual dinner in Alameda, especially when you need an excuse to peel yourself off that couch you’ve been glued to for hours. Stick primarily to the bar classics, like a burger piled high with all the fixings, but know the restaurant has also mastered the art of the Chicken Tikka Masala. Theirs has just the right amount of spice that tastes great paired with the fluffy naan and topped with a dollop of cool yogurt.
It’s a fun place where you can probably walk in and catch a game on one of the many screens over a plate of those perfect mozzarella sticks.
Grand Oaks
$$ | (510) 451-5253 | WEBSITE
This chill, old-school sports bar in the heart of Alameda is the best bar and grill in the East Bay. And that’s not just because they serve what might be the heftiest, juiciest burger in the entire Bay Area. You’ll find a solid lineup of local craft beers on tap, really attentive bartenders, and an atmosphere that’s particularly suited to debating the merits of your favorite team’s draft picks.
So grab a seat at the spacious two-level venue for a group, order some of the tasty bar food, and settle in for at least three quarters of the game on one of the many TVs.
Bank Club Cafe
$ | (510) 652-4381 | WEBSITE
As straightforward as it might appear, a lot goes into the perfect neighborhood bar: lively music, generous pours, and a welcoming crowd. There are plenty of bar and grill spots in the East Bay, and while we wish we could highlight them all, Bank Club Cafe is a definite standout. Located in Emeryville, this spot boasts an amazing atmosphere with soul and funk tunes setting the mood.
But we couldn’t care less about official accolades—we just appreciate the friendly bartenders who craft excellent drinks and the weekend DJ sets that keep the energy high. The wait for a table can definitely be noticeable, especially if you’re there during a karaoke night or party event, but part of the experience is mingling with new friends while you sip a well-made cocktail before grabbing some Greek food from Wally’s in the back.
