Katy, TX certainly isn’t lacking for solid bar and grill spots—there are plenty of worthy contenders sizzling across town. So many, honestly, that you could spend weeks working through the menus. While that sounds like a delicious challenge, if you’re short on time (and stomach space), we’ve done the heavy lifting for you. When that craving hits, let this list be your guide.
Giau bar n bites
$$ | (281) 944-9169 | WEBSITE
Giau Bar n Bites is a cozy, boozy little spot in Katy with food that’s better than you might expect from a place that feels like a pool hall without the tables. The menu has wings, skewers, and small plates like calamari and mini egg rolls that are big on flavor. Anything with the beef short ribs will be reliably tender and rich. The compact space has tons of seating, multiple TVs, and a DJ on weekends so you can soak up the lively vibe.
Service is cheerful but sometimes spotty, which is to be expected for a quasi-party bar that’s good for late-night bites and drinks full of craft beers and tequilas.
The Social Pub & Grill
$ | (281) 396-4627 | WEBSITE
The guitar player on the patio brings so much energy it’d take at least three cold beers to match even 10% of the vibe he creates. But the excitement is warranted—the bar food coming out of this lively neighborhood spot is fantastic. It’s impossible to pick a favorite, but the giant pretzel, brisket Mac, and shrimp tacos are all excellent.
Whether we’re wrapping up a meal on the bustling patio or the cozy indoor dining area, when the server says “See you next time!” with genuine warmth, we’re already planning our next visit.
Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux – Katy Restaurant
$ | (281) 769-5959 | WEBSITE
Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in Katy is a popular spot for enjoying good food and drinks while watching a game or socializing with friends. This basically means that every visit offers a lively, energetic atmosphere. It’s definitely not quiet, however—the restaurant can get loud when busy (although the patio area provides a more pleasant alternative).
There are always a few non-sports distractions like the game area with basketball and claw machines, too, and while those are fun, you should mainly be coming here for the food and drinks. The service is usually friendly and attentive, with servers who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The food is consistently praised, with the Boom Boom shrimp and hangover burger being standout dishes. The atmosphere is light and happy, with a sense of everyone having a good time.
While some might feel it’s a chain with a formulaic atmosphere, the availability of parking and fair prices make it a convenient option. The service may be inconsistent at times, but the overall cleanliness and safety of the establishment are appreciated. It’s a great weekend destination for a beer and some tasty food.
Fusion Grill
$$ | (281) 717-8935 | WEBSITE
Any strip mall—in any suburb—would be lucky to have a spot like Fusion Grill. The bar-and-grill dishes are always reliable, whether it’s the perfectly grilled Asadero Burger or delicious circa-2025 classics like the shrimp tacos. And even when it’s busy (which is most evenings), the excellent service always fills us with Texas pride.
Like with many corners of Katy, the dining scene around Fusion Grill has changed for good and bad over the years, but this place is as vital to the community as memories of the original small-business charm.
Wildcatter Saloon
$ | (281) 392-2337 | WEBSITE
Wildcatter Saloon is a music venue with a location in Katy, Texas. And they specialize in, well, wildcatting and more. And the music shows are some of Katy’s best. They come with all sorts of acts—great bands and groups, line dance parties, and rock-out sessions. But what completes each night is a friendly staff that adds warmth, and also ensures that everyone from yuppies to bikers feels at home.
For the “more” there are events like bingo and crawfish nights, plus a cozy bar where guests can dance and reserve a table.
Midpoint bar and eatery
$$ | (832) 437-8001 | WEBSITE
A standout bar and grill is hard to come by. But not only is Midpoint Bar and Eatery one of the best spots in Katy for a fun hangout—their food also happens to be some of the most satisfying in Greater Houston. The menu offers a variety of delicious meals, and our favorite is the shrimp and avocado salad with roasted brussel sprouts, which has fresh shrimp, creamy avocado, and crispy sprouts that give an extra boost of flavor.
This place has multiple areas, including a large bar area and a patio with games like Cornhole, but even at its busiest, you won’t have to wait too long to grab a seat at a table or at the bar.
Scholars and Scoundrels
$ | (346) 307-7434 | WEBSITE
It takes Scholars and Scoundrels about 12 hours to smoke their pulled pork, which is impressive considering we get restless waiting for a microwave to finish. This slow process creates incredibly tender pork, that when served on soft slider buns with crispy French fries, makes for some of the best bar food in Katy. Though their pulled pork sliders steal the show, they also have a perfectly cooked steak, which is a great alternative.
Grab a seat at their spacious bar to catch a game, or come for a chill night out where you can enjoy great food and drinks along with their lively, welcoming atmosphere.
Texas Borders Bar & Grill
$ | (281) 578-8785 | WEBSITE
Texas Borders Bar & Grill is from the team behind the popular Katy restaurant scene, which you might know because of its incredible crawfish. And Texas Borders has become one of our favorite spots in the area for a casual meal. The food is great: They also have fantastic cauliflower with XXX spicing and shareable things like a half order of onion rings with CFS batter. But it’s also just a nice place to hang out for a few hours.
It’s pleasant and welcoming (seriously—the staff greets customers by name) and will immediately soothe your work-fatigued mind. Plus, it has a large bar with tall or regular tables and a variety of seating options that include booths and outdoor seating like a classic Texas gathering spot.
The Local Bar Katy
$$ | (832) 913-3941 | WEBSITE
The Local Bar Katy is a classic neighborhood spot in Texas with a separate 21+ entrance. And like a well-curated playlist, its menu is a lineup of nothing but crowd-pleasers. Casually pick any item and you’ll land on something worth trying. That said, there are a few dishes you should prioritize. In particular, we like the tender salmon, the perfectly seasoned kebabs, and the fantastic chocolate mousse—which has a rich, velvety texture that’s not overly sweet.
The bar is casual and warmly lit, but our favorite place to be here is when we can catch the live music on Fridays.
On the Kirb
$$ | (281) 595-9764 | WEBSITE
On the Kirb is from the same welcoming American grill tradition that prioritizes making sports fans feel right at home. The menu here has classic favorites that stand out from the usual bar and grill suspects—like perfectly charred wood-fired pizzas with bubbly cheese, or juicy burgers with crispy edges and soft buns. We’re also huge fans of their wonderful wings: tender and saucy with just the right amount of crisp, served alongside cool ranch dressing to balance the heat.
To remind us that this is a sports paradise, they have a massive interior with numerous TVs, which they use to broadcast every major game with crystal-clear clarity.
Southland Bar & Grill
$ | (346) 387-9407 | WEBSITE
Southland Bar & Grill isn’t just another bar and grill (it’s a welcoming spot with outdoor volleyball and a shaved ice stand), but their vegetarian options warrant a shoutout here. Their perfectly fried, flavorful dishes taste great whether they’re at the center of a loaded Fried Green Tomato plate—with its crispy coating and tangy sauce—or simpler Corn Nuggets.
Grab a table or bar stool and pair your meal with one of their cold beers, enjoying the attentive service from the bartenders in the casual, laid-back atmosphere.
