Anchorage might seem like just Alaska’s biggest city, but locals know it’s a world apart. The dining scene here has serious range—from historic downtown taverns to sleek gastropubs with northern lights views—and the bar restaurants are no exception. There’s a cozy spot with craft cocktails from the Crow’s Nest crew, a lively gastropub run by the same team as Moose’s Tooth, and a place from the Glacier Brewhouse folks serving reindeer sausage flatbreads.
Which is all to say, it’s a perfect time to grab a drink and a bite in Anchorage.
Pink Cadillac Country Bar & Dance Hall
$$ | (907) 726-1118 | WEBSITE
The rowdier cousin to Anchorage’s more sedate nightlife spots, Pink Cadillac’s appeal is more dance-focused than its buttoned-up counterparts across town. It’s perfect for a high-energy night out, a reunion with that friend who always hits the dance floor first, or a celebration that calls for boots, not ballgowns.
Lively and loud entertainment like country music, line dancing, and a bustling photo booth sets the stage for strong drinks and a spacious, clean setting with a massive dance floor in the welcoming, no-frills hall. If you’re feeling social, the bar area is really the place to be, sipping cold beers and classic cocktails as the night kicks into gear.
Ptarmigan Bar & Grill
$$ | (907) 343-3150 | WEBSITE
Ptarmigan Bar & Grill, an Anchorage hotel bar staple, has settled into its spot in the Sheraton and carved out a cozy lounge vibe. It brought all of its greatest hits with it, too—the Alaskan Rockfish Tacos, the Caribou Burger, the friendly staff keeping service quick. In fact, we’ve found that the Sheraton location is just plain better than many hotel bars when it comes to the quality of food coming out of the kitchen.
That bodes well for a chill night out or a post-adventure meal made up of a delightfully fresh rockfish taco with mango salsa and chipotle aioli, a caribou burger stacked with crispy bacon, and a side of street corn. There’s a little something for everyone on the menu at Ptarmigan, making it a solid catch-all spot for tasty food in Alaska.

The spot offers a deliciously unique dining experience with pizzas crafted with care and creativity. See: the Voodoo Child with its bold flavors, the Farmers Pie with beets and hot honey, and any pizza topped with the divine house-made sausage.
The Caesar salad with blackened chicken and the beet salad round out the menu perfectly. It’s an affordable feast, with a warm atmosphere, awesome service, and numerous beers on tap providing tons of options. Whether for dinner or simple desserts like pudding and mousse, this is a must-try spot to relax and enjoy with friends.
Bread and Brew

The grilled cheese with tomato basil dipping sauce at Bread and Brew is worth the trip across Anchorage (or anywhere) alone. But it’s just the tip of the iceberg—this neighborhood spot also makes incredibly crisp chicken bacon ranch sandwiches, fresh tomato soup, and warm mounds of Aloha grilled cheese. Get there during game time, fill up one of the booths with friends, and find a spot at the attractive bar. It’s a great place to bring the crew before settling in to watch the big screen TVs.
Kinley’s Restaurant & Bar
$$ | (907) 644-8953 | WEBSITE
The team behind Kinley’s Restaurant & Bar shifted from fine dining to create a welcoming spot for all. And the menu truly delivers fresh and flavorful dishes that shine. There’s a warm, family-friendly vibe throughout—you can catch the game on the large TVs in the bar or enjoy a relaxed meal with the kids—that also comes through in the standout plates. Like the hangar steak with its perfect sear, the hominy chowder rich with smoky depth, or the halibut cheeks served over creamy risotto.
While service can sometimes be inconsistent, it’s better to pair your meal with a glass from their impressive and affordable wine list.
Seward’s Folly Bar & Grill
$$ | (907) 222-1218 | WEBSITE
Seward’s Folly is perfect for when you’re out with the family and need a relaxed, satisfying meal. It’s also not-so-secretly a great spot to catch the game with a beer in hand. So while brunch isn’t officially served every day, you can bypass the weekend crowds elsewhere and head to Seward’s for excellent mimosas on Saturday and Sunday. And just like their bar vibe, the food here really shines—so dig into crispy fried pickles, juicy burgers, and the perfectly grilled salmon.
And never skip the pulled pork mac and cheese, a rich and comforting bowl with a satisfying cheesy pull from the noodles.
Billiard Palace and Bar/The Blue Note AK
$$ | (907) 562-4251 | WEBSITE
The sister venue to Anchorage’s pool halls, Billiard Palace and Bar/The Blue Note AK makes seriously good bar food that doesn’t take itself too seriously. A night here is straight-up fun, with local regulars on a casual outing sharing a laugh over plates of loaded nachos, a savory Rueben sandwich, and bowls of French dip and quesadilla. It’s also a favorite for groups.
Friends squeeze in between pool tables on well-maintained surfaces and ask for sips from the friendly bartenders’ specialty beer pours holding a smooth combination of flavors (the answer is always yes).
Cabin Tavern
$ | (907) 338-9905 | WEBSITE
Anchorage has some of the best bar scenes in all of Alaska. That’s because there’s a sizeable community of locals here, and they’re not putting up with anything mediocre. One of the best spots in town is Cabin Tavern, a welcoming spot with a cozy fireplace and historic artwork on the walls, doling out drinks in Mason jars and offering billiards, pinball, and darts. It’s a pretty casual affair—no need for reservations or dressing up if you’re planning on hanging out.
But our favorite way to enjoy Cabin Tavern is from the comfort of a high top table. They run a tight operation here with bartender Shannon keeping things attentive, and the dive bar prices and friendly locals create a vibe that keeps Anchorage well entertained during a game.
W xyz Lounge
$ | (907) 273-3000 | WEBSITE
W xyz Lounge sits right in the heart of Anchorage’s bustling downtown scene. That makes it perfect for grabbing some incredible food before catching a show at the nearby performing arts center or after you’ve explored all the local shops and galleries. It’s in casual dining territory, with Korean BBQ tacos that are absolutely AHHHHMAZING and drinks that hit the spot. But the atmosphere brings it all together with a warm, inviting lounge aesthetic, complete with cozy seating.
The bar also makes fantastic cocktails that rotate regularly—it’s worth stopping by for one of those and a few tacos on any given evening.
Pioneer Bar
$$ | (907) 276-7996 | WEBSITE
Pioneer Bar is where you head in Anchorage when you want Alaska-sized fun without the wilderness trek. The food truck out back leans hard into comfort classics—creamy homemade tomato soup, gooey grilled cheese sandwiches, and crispy hot tater tots that hit the spot. It’s lively in the best way—locals and visitors mingle at the bar and bond over frosty beers and fair-priced pours. Plan to grab a seat early on music nights.
That includes weekends, where you can expect friendly service from bartenders like Chase and something competitive over a game of pool or shuffleboard.
Polar Bar
$ | (907) 279-0869 | WEBSITE
Polar Bar in Anchorage is known as the best dive bar with reasonable prices. It’s about as casual as the city gets, with worn-in stools, neon beer signs, and laid-back locals sipping pints of cider. Polar Bar is probably exactly what you picture when “dive bar” comes up in conversation—friendly bartenders like Danny making everyone feel welcome over what can best be described as legendary popcorn.
It’s the type of spot that makes friends, especially if you pair it with a cold cider and some tunes from the music box.
