Liffey Irish Pub is a very worthy, more casual spot in Braga, featuring the best Guinness pours in the area. It’s every bit the cozy, intimate, slightly-hidden Irish pub you’d expect, which is another one of the reasons we love it here. It’s also where we come for after-work pints, Estrela de Alicia, and classic pub chatter. The expertly poured 1906, friendly atmosphere, and small-group seating tucked a few steps down from the main area are all absolute perfection, as you’d expect.
Restaurante Braga Ponte, Lda. (Naco na Pedra)

The Naco na Pedra at Restaurante Braga Ponte became such a standout specialty that it’s become the restaurant’s namesake dish. And really, the fact that you can enjoy this excellent empty chunk on the stone in such a clean, beautiful, and organized setting is a privilege. They also offer attentive service that makes the atmosphere friendly for family or friends, plus delicious food you shouldn’t miss. While slightly expensive, the quality makes it worth a visit, so plan accordingly.
Mal Amado
Mal Amado is another spot that’s really all about the atmosphere, with a funky narrow walkway and exposed bricks that give it a nice homely aesthetic, and outdoor seating with a view near the city cathedral perfect for a sunset drink. The drinks are solid, with a constantly rotating selection of delicious craft beers and great cocktails, but like we said, you’re here more for the vibe than anything else.
Come when it’s light out to enjoy the outdoor dining and for the friendly service that makes it an ideal spot to visit.
33 Bar
Once celebrated as a must-visit in Braga’s bar scene, dining at 33 Bar these days has become somewhat of a mixed bag. It’s never a bad place to spend an evening, thanks to the clean, pleasant space with its all-black decor and sound atmosphere that’s particularly lively on academic Wednesdays. But in a city filled with talented chefs and fresh ingredients, there are plenty of other great options nearby.
The snack menu is excellent and the standout items are simple yet satisfying, like the delightful mixed toast with the perfect balance of ham and cheese or the highly recommended ham and brie cheese sandwich with arugula on chapata bread, accompanied by potato chips. But if you’re looking for variety, you won’t find much. The fireballs are a notch above good, but then the limited selection beyond sandwiches and toast skews borderline uninspired.
Most prices feel too high to justify the simplicity, but the service is excellent, with specific praise for the attentive staff member Elisabete and the best Super Bock beers in the area.
StationBlues
Only in Braga can you wander into what looks like a music venue and discover a restaurant that serves divine paella alongside eclectic decor that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a blues club. In addition to the owners’ warm hospitality and tireless service, the reason we return here regularly is the mouthwatering Abbot pudding, and the lively atmosphere that makes every meal feel like a celebration. There’s a vibrant energy throughout, so this is definitely a sit-and-stay kind of place.
Canté Food & Friends
Canté Food & Friends does a fantastic job filling the gap between ultra-pricy sit-down restaurants and cheaper fast food options. Their cozy, well-decorated space on a quiet street offers ample indoor and outdoor seating—for such a compact spot, they have a welcoming atmosphere with nice music inside. We recommend opting for their spectacular Tacos de Salmão or the arroz Thai main dish, but there’s plenty to choose from and the shared dishes are superb.
If you happen to see the Meringue tart revisited on the dessert menu, grab it and don’t let go, it rivals some of the best desserts in years. The friendly and pleasant staff are right there to help, so there’s the option to enjoy a cozy dinner after a long walk around Braga that’s steps away.

If you’re familiar with Portuguese barbecue spots, there are no surprises here, other than the generous portions that easily serve three people and the fast, friendly service in the spacious restaurant with its cozy interior.
End your meal with the well-grilled take-away barbecue, and if you’re done with all the power-eating Braga demands, this is a nice choice for the kid-friendly menu with tasty grilled meat and fries. Great value for quality food.
Lua Cheia (Restaurante Lua Cheia)

Imagine that Sunday afternoon when the family decides to go all out and put together a menu of all their favorite dishes. Well, that’s what’s happening every day at Lua Cheia, but the owners run the kitchen. No offense to your brother, mother, or grandfather, but that’s likely to be a reasonable upgrade. The place oozes hospitable happiness and that special juju that makes a restaurant legendary, and always gets us excited to eat here.
Every day, there’s a whole spread on offer: a generous menu of homemade plates that could be centered around grilled entrecôte, tender pork, crispy cod balls or (if you’re lucky) sirloin. There’s always pasta dishes like spaghetti bolognese, you can add on some additional bonus elements (which we suggest you do), and dessert like Baba de Camelho is mandatory. Go hard. Go home. Take a nap.

If you’re not careful you might end up spending more than you planned, since the prices hover around €30 per person and quietly add up with each dish.
But if you need to grab a satisfying meal quickly after a day of sightseeing, or feed a group for dinner without breaking the bank, this is the place. The space is cozy and consists strictly of indoor seating, but you can sometimes snag a table by avoiding the peak hours and arriving early.
Carpe Noctem
We were thrilled when Carpe Noctem opened in Braga, then delighted when it quickly became the go-to spot for starting the night with friends. Now, Carpe Noctem is arguably the best place in Braga’s historic center for lively socializing, delicious food, and great drinks with a young, energetic crowd. The friendly service should be mandatory, and you’ll want to order another round to soak up every last bit of the vibrant atmosphere.
And the delicious food paired with a few drinks will make you question everything you know about a typical night out. Pair it all with a house cocktail or local Portuguese beer.
Bicla Burgers – Hamburgueria (Braga – Centro)
Bicla Burgers – Hamburgueria in Braga’s city center is a spot that will be familiar if you’re into straightforward, satisfying burgers, and they have a loyal local following. This location serves consistently delicious burgers and fries, but there’s no denying that the space has a super nice, pleasant atmosphere.
If you do wind up here for a casual meal or a quick bite, your options mostly consist of highly recommended but simple classics like juicy burgers and crispy fries with friendly, helpful service. We prefer to head here for a satisfying lunch or an early dinner when the welcoming environment and quick service make the overall experience excellent for burger enthusiasts looking for a great choice in a welcoming setting.
Berber Shisha Café Marroquino

Locals might purposely be gatekeeping this gem, and once you visit, you’ll see why—this Moroccan café delivers an experience on par with Braga’s top-rated spots, and most nights you can avoid the crowds and slip in without a reservation. Located in a welcoming large space with several rooms, expect ultra-luxe touches alongside a down-to-earth smoking area, and, like most cafés in the area, the atmosphere is mainly peaceful and inviting.
This is upscale shisha culture with flavor enhancements that won’t feel obnoxious, like a variety of shisha options and reasonably priced drinks such as the ‘sex on the beach’ cocktail. This place is perfect for grabbing a cocktail by the fire or having a multi-course weeknight session of never-disappointing shisha and drinks, and is also a great option for a different experience.
Café Areal – Snack-Bar
From the moment Café Areal – Snack-Bar expanded its renovated space, there have been steady streams of customers filling the tables, with both regulars and newcomers waiting for a taste of the signature francesinhas, including the special with egg and chorizo and the vegetarian option. And we’re here to tell you, Café Areal is absolutely worth the visit.
If you’re going to brave the sometimes noisy atmosphere during peak hours, order as generously as possible—we recommend the traditional francesinha, the chorizo special, and the vegetarian version. Even if you arrive during a lull you might wait a few extra minutes, but the payoff is some of the best snacks in all of Braga, with the staff’s excellent service often including complimentary extra fries to make the wait more pleasant.
Engenho no Copo
Engenho no Copo is a local gem and a must-visit for anyone who craves a cozy pub experience with genuine warmth. With its intimate atmosphere and spotless, tranquil setting, it would be easy to find a trendier spot, but then you’ll be sad to have missed out on the simple yet perfect vibe of this home-like pub. Even better is that this place adapts beautifully to the moment.
It’s perfectly suited for a quiet conversation over drinks, or for catching up with friends you’re passing through Braga with. The service is friendly and helpful, and while the drink selection is solid, lean on their welcoming staff—the overall experience feels thoughtfully crafted, much like a well-poured pint in a cherished neighborhood haunt.
