Let’s be honest—Davenport’s winters make you question your life choices, which is why we cherish those rare, perfect evenings when the Mississippi breeze feels like a gentle caress. On nights like those, you don’t just want a drink; you need an experience. These are the bars where the ambiance is the main event—places that’ll make you raise your glass and whisper a toast to never having to shovel your car out again.
Cabos Cantina & Grill 2
$ | (563) 888-8484 | WEBSITE
The food at Cabos Cantina & Grill 2 (mostly Mexican classics and fajitas) is not as cheap or as fast as it could be, but these are the compromises we accept for one of the most festive atmospheres you can experience while enjoying a solid $28 Jose Special. This place is located in Davenport’s vibrant dining scene, which means you also have a decent chance of hearing lively music or catching snippets of conversation about someone’s recent family celebration.
But that sizzling skillet arriving at your table is what truly commands your focus.
Chuck’s Tap
$ | (563) 322-0879 | WEBSITE
Chuck’s Tap isn’t a particularly remarkable restaurant—but it does have one big superpower: its location. The neighborhood bar and grill is situated at the bottom of a hill as you enter downtown—but it’s the cozy, spacious interior that warrants a moment of quiet appreciation usually only reserved for a perfectly poured beer or a friendly smile. Tables are scattered between clean, open spaces with reasonable prices and quick service. It’s a varied, welcoming crowd.
The limited menu items like the open-faced roast beef act as perfectly acceptable background noise.
Public House
$ | (563) 594-6055 | WEBSITE
If you can’t get a seat at the sports bar downtown (or just want something more relaxed) try Public House, a cozy bar restaurant in Davenport. The drinks are fine, but this place is more about atmosphere. Sitting at the bar is basically your best bet, but it’s where you should be regardless. The best spot is by the fire pit on the patio next to one of the multiple TVs. Get one of the bloody marys with a beer chaser and a pizza.
Circle Tap
$ | (563) 322-9276 | WEBSITE
Circle Tap is the best neighborhood bar in Austin—not just Davenport, but all of Austin. The straightforward food here isn’t needlessly fancy, but still tastes like every bite on the plate has been generously portioned. They make some of the city’s best versions of grilled chicken wraps and Philly steak and cheese egg rolls, and walk that tricky tightrope between party venue and friendly hangout.
If you’re looking for a casual meal and it’s nice out, you should specifically end up outside on the outdoor area that’s perfect for kids to play while you enjoy your food.
Devon’s Complaint Dept.
$ | WEBSITE
This vintage-styled bar in the vibrant rock district is almost as exclusive as it looks. It’s only got limited seating, so they recommend arriving early (and they do a lot of nearby attractions too). This, frustratingly, only makes us want it more. So double-check their availability before you decide to come, and maybe even call first too. Once you’ve secured a spot, order the best Martini in town, the seasonal mixed drink, and the Wednesday special—even if you’re by yourself.
You don’t know when the opportunity will present itself again to enjoy these glorious cocktail situations in a cool bar mere steps from the patio.
M Lounge
$ | (563) 340-0478 | WEBSITE
A drive through Davenport’s historic downtown is the best thing a local can do on a crisp evening. The second best thing is to end that drive with a Wednesday dinner at M Lounge. It’s tucked away in a cozy neighborhood and serves delicious homemade steak tacos, well-made drinks, and more festive offerings. While the service is excellent and the atmosphere is welcoming, the point of this place is to sit inside and let the family-operated warmth gently surround you.
It’s not fancy enough to require a jacket, but you won’t feel out of place if you arrive straight from work.
Kelso’s Corner
$ | (563) 551-6477 | WEBSITE
Kelso’s Corner is a lively sports bar in the heart of Davenport, where the vibe is as festive as a game-winning touchdown. While we really enjoy the indoor space—which feels like hanging out in a cozy, impeccably decorated living room—the patio situation is every bit as charming. It has sunny seating and a crackling fire pit that make you feel like you’re on vacation even if you live here. There’s also a walk-up window for outdoor drink orders you’ll want to forklift into your own backyard.
It’s all a perfect setting to enjoy some great cocktails, creative mocktails, or reasonably priced drinks with friends.
The J Bar Davenport
$$ | (563) 468-6150 | WEBSITE
The J Bar Davenport’s creative jalapeño fondue and standout shrimp and grits are only part of the reason you should be planning your visit to this welcoming Quad Cities spot this weekend. It’s also a comfortably inviting restaurant, especially the main dining area. It feels more like a neighborhood gathering place than a typical bar restaurant in Davenport. It has warm wood accents, soft pendant lighting, and a lively central bar anchoring it all.
Even a quick Tuesday evening bite here will feel like a special occasion.
Me & Billy
$ | (563) 323-1195 | WEBSITE
Me & Billy is a bar restaurant that operates with a straightforward approach. There’s no complicated menu here. Instead, the friendly waitstaff—like Jack or Sierra—will tell you what’s fresh and worth trying that day. It could be the salmon on naan, the NY Strip, cherry cobbler, or those exceptional cheese curds. But it will be delicious, and you can enjoy it in their open, clean space, with comfortable seating and an atmosphere that feels very welcoming.
Stop by when you’re in the mood for something tasty. We’ve come here before, only to find ourselves planning our next visit before we’ve even left.
Monarch -Kitchen & Bar
$$$ | (563) 526-7400 | WEBSITE
As much as we enjoy the cozy bar area inside, Monarch’s outdoor patio deserves your attention on a pleasant evening for dinner or drinks. The spacious courtyard is filled with comfortable seating and greenery, and is also situated far enough from the street that you won’t have to worry about traffic noise interrupting your conversation. It’s exactly the kind of setting where you want to be enjoying a NY Strip steak or sipping a cocktail as the sun sets.
Bley’s Tap
$ | (563) 323-0344 | WEBSITE
Bley’s Tap is a neighborhood bar that warrants an appropriately unpretentious (and affordable) night out. Their cozy interior has a welcoming vibe that opens up to a Davenport you never knew could feel this comfortable. It’s got a TouchTunes machine in the corner, a bar intended for chatting, and during Cubs games, friendly locals gather around the screens, cheering together. We’d brave any Iowa weather to catch a game with cold beer from one of the stools scattered around the bar.
It’s the only hidden-gem Davenport spot we feel that way about.
Costa Del Mar Mexican Grill & Seafood
$ | (563) 888-5557 | WEBSITE
Most of the seating at this Mexican grill and seafood spot is inside a bright, clean dining room with colorful murals and comfortable booths. Seating is straightforward, so grab a table while you look over the menu. Focus on the Chile Colorado, Santa Fe dishes, and ask the attentive staff to help you pick a margarita. During the early evening, the restaurant is filled with regulars and newcomers delighted by the prompt service and generous portions.
As the night goes on, they’re gradually joined by groups sharing shrimp cocktails and reasonably priced entrees at spacious, well-set tables.
R Bar
$$ | (563) 355-4407 | WEBSITE
From the outside, R Bar just looks like a quiet corner spot. But after you step inside and see their selection of wine and bourbon, settle into one of their cozy leather chairs. It’s an intimate space with soft lighting, dark wood accents, and a few bookshelves you’re welcome to browse in case you’re waiting for your drink. R Bar is one of the best bars in Davenport, but it’s such a welcoming place that we’d come on a rainy evening just to unwind and have a glass of cabernet.
BeerTini’s
$$ | (563) 323-0021 | WEBSITE
BeerTini’s is a spot that’ll make you feel right at home in Davenport, even if you’re just passing through. Here, under a spacious and nicely decorated patio filled with flowers, you’ll find big TVs playing the game, sneakily strong draft beers, and comfortable outdoor seating that’s seen plenty of good times. But what really sets BeerTini’s apart from every other bar in the West end is the outstanding food. Smashed burgers stand side by side with well-mixed cocktails and delicious bar bites.
Come here to enjoy live music, an impressive beer selection, and get a good taste of friendly Midwest vibes without having to pay ridiculous prices.
