When most envision Fort Lauderdale, they picture sun-drenched beaches and winding canals—a quintessential Florida playground. Yet this city of nearly 200,000 harbors a vibrant, evolving culinary spirit, especially in its bar scene. From historic waterfront haunts to modern craft cocktail dens, here are the spots where Fort Lauderdale truly comes to life after dark.

Rooftop @1WLO
$$$ | (954) 523-1956 | WEBSITE
Its name might sound like a potential tech startup, but we’re ready to award this rooftop spot a separate trophy for truly excellent cocktails. Rooftop @1WLO is staffed by friendly professionals like Hayden, Jaime, CJ, Cristos, and Christo, and they serve the same creative, well-balanced drinks. We’re fans of both the sunset views and city lights backdrop, which come with a relaxed yet upscale vibe that’s perfect for celebrations or casual evenings.
They’re an ideal treat to enjoy while you unwind with friends and take in the beautiful surroundings of Fort Lauderdale.
511 Bar & Lounge
$ | (954) 401-0450 | WEBSITE
The pride and joy of not just downtown Fort Lauderdale, but the entire area, 511 Bar & Lounge is a straight-up classic. The revitalized bar has been serving strong cocktails, cheap drinks, and great food from a different food truck every night for years, and built a local following in the process. Come here on a Friday evening and be greeted by dozens of other people who had the same idea as you.
But not to worry, 511 is a well-oiled machine with friendly staff and will have you playing yard games, enjoying live music, and sipping cocktails in no time.
Patio Bar & Pizza
$$ | (954) 740-6000 | WEBSITE
Patio Bar & Pizza in Fort Lauderdale has been drawing crowds for years and their signature pies only continue to impress. Their menu of a dozen or so pizzas can definitely lead to some delicious indecision, so we’ll make things simpler for you: go for the soppressata & pepper. It arrives with spicy soppressata, fresh mozzarella, your choice of red sauce or white, and a sprinkle of oregano—all baked on a perfectly thin, crispy crust.
The only thing that could possibly go wrong with your Patio Bar order is that you love your pizza so much you overlook the excellent burrata appetizer and the other tempting options on the menu.
Emmy Squared Pizza: Fort Lauderdale
$$ | (754) 296-0076 | WEBSITE
A night at Emmy Squared Pizza runs about $45 a person, but if you’re looking for a once-a-week pizza fix, you won’t find fresher, more delicious pies than at this Fort Lauderdale spot. The servers, like Spencer and Mariana, will chat with you the whole time you’re there, probably ask you about your favorite sports team, and offer their own recommendations for the best appetizers even if you aren’t totally sure what to order.
Then they’ll get to work bringing out standouts that include crispy pepperoni pizza, cheesy garlic knots, and whatever’s fresh from the oven during happy hour.
The Easton Rooftop Pool & Lounge
$$ | (954) 769-9900 | WEBSITE
The Easton Rooftop Pool & Lounge is a rooftop bar/pool lounge hybrid—a perfect combination that’s surprisingly still hard to find. Whether it’s your first visit or your 20th, grab the crispy wings. At $14, these aren’t the cheapest wings around, but after tasting their perfect crunch, enjoying the warm pool, the comfy patio furniture, and that stunning view, you’ll feel like this spot has more than earned its reputation.
Then settle into the comfortable seating, where the great mix of music and welcoming atmosphere make every summer visit worthwhile.
Escape Rooftop Bar
$$ | (954) 908-7301 | WEBSITE
If you’re visiting Fort Lauderdale, you probably already know you don’t have to book a fancy dinner cruise to get incredible sunset views – you can just go to Escape Rooftop Bar. For everyone else, it’s time to head to that boutique hotel. They have a limited menu, but you’re focusing on one section: “Italian-inspired cuisine.” These are the dishes that come with that amazing intracoastal vista, and they are satisfying.
Start with a cocktail as the sun dips below the waterline and work your way through to dessert under the stars.
Black Klover Kava Bar
$ | (954) 900-4574 | WEBSITE
Drinking the kava from this Fort Lauderdale bar is kind of like finding a quiet corner in a city that never sleeps. It will always shift the rhythm of your evening. From carbonated Kratom in zesty Lemon to the bright and crisp Lime flavor, the drinks here are inspired by relaxation in tropical lounges.
If you don’t live downtown, the trip over here can be a little out of the way, but we’d make that walk any night, just for a seat on their cozy outdoor patio or one of the comfortable couches inside.
Golden Lyon Vintage Pub
$ | (954) 467-0671 | WEBSITE
If you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast, ideally one that involves syrup-drenched pancakes, head to Golden Lyon Vintage Pub in Fort Lauderdale. This lively pub (located in the Riverside Hotel) gets busy most mornings with a mixed crowd enjoying French Toast, Waffles, and Pancakes at their Rise and Shine breakfast. The Steak & Eggs, served with attentive care, is perfect for one, but the fluffy golden French Toast with warm maple syrup belongs on the table for groups.
Mona’s
$ | (954) 525-6662 | WEBSITE
Standing out as a neighborhood bar in Fort Lauderdale is no simple feat, but Mona’s does it by offering vibes so positive they make your worries feel small. But welcoming bartenders like Jason and Dean aren’t the only reason regulars flock to this cozy hidden spot. Show up with your most discerning bar-hopping friend and they’ll feel right at home—the patio area provides space to relax with good music that can hold its own against any spot along the beach.
And even Mona’s interesting decor with its historically rich furniture makes other bars look like [Zoolander voice] lounges for ants. Just remember to bring cash since card payments have a $10 minimum and tips can’t be added electronically—a small price for such excellent service.
Freddie’s Anchor Sports Grill
$ | (954) 462-7665 | WEBSITE
Tucked away in Fort Lauderdale, Freddie’s Anchor Sports Grill might not be the most convenient spot for everyone, but if you’re looking for a solid neighborhood bar to catch a game, then the trip is absolutely worth it. This local institution offers a welcoming atmosphere with plenty of space so you never feel crowded, making it a great place to relax.
Start with a nice selection of affordable draft beers, but make sure the red beans and rice with andouille sausage from the gentleman in the kitchen is the focus of your visit. For entertainment, we like to round things out with some Premier League Football on the screens or a few rounds at the pool tables and poker games.
Laser Wolf
$ | (954) 667-9373 | WEBSITE
This Stranger Things-themed bar is one of our favorite spots in all of Fort Lauderdale, and also the best all-around dive for craft beer enthusiasts. There are always groups of friends debating the best cold brewskis, regulars who haven’t looked at the food truck schedule in months, and newcomers soaking in the nostalgic 00’s memorabilia on the walls.
Speaking of the atmosphere, it’s lively and welcoming, so you’ll want to come in ready for a night out—or just follow our lead: Grab a couple of cold ones (around $7 each), try the smashy crispy burger or tasty tacos with that legendary hot sauce from the visiting food trucks, maybe catch a Geisha master appearance, and plan your next stop in town.
411 South Bar & Grill
$$ | (954) 522-2004 | WEBSITE
Finding 411 South Bar & Grill might mean fighting some beach traffic, but believe us when we say this pub right on the Ft Lauderdale sand is always worth the extra effort. With its open-air patio, weathered wood tables, and the constant sound of waves crashing, eating here feels a bit like you’ve stumbled into a surfer’s backyard, but one that happens to serve some seriously satisfying pub food.
There’s a full menu to browse, but the real move is to grab a seat facing the water and order the bang bang shrimp. Most meals will run you around $20-$30, so 411 South isn’t your everyday fast-casual stop, but if you’re looking for good energy vibes with an amazing ocean view, this spot is worth every dollar.
Tamarindo Harbor Bar & Grill
$$ | (954) 533-2206 | WEBSITE
This cozy harbor-side spot in Fort Lauderdale serves all of its pasta dishes fresh from the kitchen commanded by owner Yecson, who checks in with every table. The crab ravioli with its delicate filling is good to share, but the generous churrasco steak with chimichurri is so flavorful that savoring one solo with a glass of their sangria—some of the best I’ve ever had—makes for the perfect meal.
The menu keeps descriptions simple, so if you aren’t as familiar with Latin-inspired comfort food, just trust me when I say everything that leaves their open kitchen is delicious.
Josie’s Too
$$ | (954) 963-8735 | WEBSITE
This unassuming dive bar in Fort Lauderdale pours nothing but cold beers and wine, and that’s perfectly fine by us. You might have to wait for a pool table on busy nights (though regulars know the best times), but once you grab a $2 draft and join the friendly crowd, none of that will matter. The simple Midwestern vibe is available in every corner: two pool tables for games, a jukebox for tunes, and a welcoming atmosphere for veterans and locals alike. All of it is genuine.
Get here with a few friends, order a round before the jukebox gets too loud, and share the convivial spirit with someone new.
Rhythm & Vine
$$ | (954) 868-4351 | WEBSITE
Rhythm & Vine has been serving Fort Lauderdale for years, but only recently became our top choice for a night out in the city. Why? For starters, you could visit this craft beer haven a hundred times and have a completely different—and fantastic—experience each time. Come on weekends for live DJ sets and dancing in the reopened backyard.
Show up just about any other night to drink local brews recommended by knowledgeable bartenders and enjoy the vibrant, dog-friendly atmosphere you’ll tell your friends about. Then there’s the outdoor seating—a spacious, greenery-filled area where twinkling lights create a cozy glow. There’s no such thing as a dull moment at Rhythm & Vine, so just go whenever you can grab a seat the fastest.
Palm Room
$$ | (954) 991-1749 | WEBSITE
Palm Room is tucked away in downtown Fort Lauderdale, but if you’re anywhere within a 15-minute drive, you need to be drinking at this vibrant cocktail lounge. An evening at this lively retro spot can be dazzling—the drink menu features dozens of creative options—so we recommend starting with one of their signature presentations like a cocktail served in a croc shoe or with a plastic alligator, and ending it with a shot tailored to your taste by their incredible bartenders.
The atmosphere is comfortable and Florida-inspired, with televisions for sports and great music, and you can chase it all down with some expert recommendations from their kind, approachable staff at the end.
Just 1 More Tavern
$ | (954) 870-5350 | WEBSITE
Just 1 More Tavern is a popular spot in Broward County that specializes in the kind of American tavern comfort you need after a long day—like well-balanced whiskey sours, flavorful green tea shots, and those must-try filet bites.
That said, the main draw at this homey tavern is the “best $12 steak in town.” Years before overpriced bar snacks became the norm, Just 1 More was serving up generous portions of tender steak with that relaxed, friendly vibe, so that’s probably what you should order here.
