Some nights call for raucous revelry – think New Year’s Eve, a promotion celebration, or when you’re ready to dance on a table until last call. But when you crave a proper meal alongside your martini, where the only shouting comes from the sizzle of a skillet, you’ll want one of these refined Fredericton spots. From cozy gastropubs to elegant dining rooms with stellar bars, here are nine establishments where conversation and cuisine share the spotlight.
UNB Grad House – Windsor Castle Bar
$ | (506) 453-4757 | WEBSITE
Fredericton isn’t exactly the first place your mind goes when you think historic campus bars, but the UNB Grad House might change that. Tucked away on campus just a few steps from what was then the old Windsor Castle and is now a student hub, this cozy spot has an excellent coffee shop by day that’s laid-back and welcoming, but never boring.
If you’re looking for a midday break after class and want to enjoy a Nutella latte with the same chicken pot pie from Pie Curious that students rave about, remember UNB Grad House.
Pine Tree Bar & Grill
$ | (506) 452-8733 | WEBSITE
A meal at Pine Tree Bar & Grill feels like grabbing a bite in your friend’s newly renovated garage where everything looks clean and fresh. The spacious restaurant with its large free parking area is a great place to unwind after work with a chatty colleague during dinner.
This place serves dishes like omelets, fries, onion rings, and wings, which is a good thing because you don’t need fancy plating right now anyway and could probably use some satisfying portions and awesome fish and chips from their kitchen.
Kingswood B.B.L.
This well-maintained hotel restaurant overlooking the golf course in Fredericton is one of our favorite spots for a relaxing evening on the Eastside. Come in after a round of golf and you will certainly find a welcoming atmosphere, but even when the lobby is somewhat busy, it’s never overwhelming. The buffet selection changes fairly often, but we’ve never had a meal we didn’t enjoy.
If you’re wrapping up a day on the lovely 18-hole course and want one more comfortable moment, head right to Kingswood B.B.L.
STMR.36 BBQ and Social
$$ | (506) 451-7950 | WEBSITE
STMR.36 BBQ and Social is a bustling modern spot in Fredericton that’s perfect for celebrations. While you’re here for the massive portions and succulent ribs, the most notable thing about this place might be the lively atmosphere and great local draught beer. No quiet corners, no subdued dining—real fun is required and so is an appetite for delicious choices like the excellent curry soup and tasty Atlantic Salmon.
With friendly, attentive staff who make visits memorable, it’s a place worth revisiting for a casual meal and good drinks with friends.
Klub Khrome
$$ | (506) 206-5582 | WEBSITE
Tucked away in downtown Fredericton, Klub Khrome might appear like one of those rowdy bars that you don’t have the energy or the right playlist for this evening. But this vibrant establishment is actually a beloved local haunt in the city. Once you step inside through the unassuming entrance, you’ll emerge into a spacious venue with decor that feels like a retro lounge from a 1970s film set.
There are no pretensions, no velvet ropes, and no reservations needed—just strong cocktails, lively chatter, and karaoke tunes playing. The staff’s attentiveness makes you feel welcome without being overbearing, and while drinks run around $14-18, the overall vibe justifies the splurge. Thursday nights with Kareoke and Joe King are when the place truly comes alive, though arriving earlier helps you snag a good spot before the crowds pour in.
It’s the kind of spot where you can unwind with friends or make new ones over a well-poured drink, all wrapped in an atmosphere that’s both impressive and genuinely fun.
Cannon’s Cross Pub
$$ | (506) 455-1201 | WEBSITE
We like Cannon’s Cross Pub because it’s a Fredericton spot where you can always count on a friendly atmosphere, ample parking, and good pub fare that doesn’t break the bank. Plus, on those evenings when you just want to unwind with a friend and enjoy a beautiful sunset, Cannon’s Cross always seems to have a patio table waiting.
The Picaroons Roundhouse
$$ | (506) 457-9082 | WEBSITE
Fredericton’s brewery scene isn’t typically where you go for a romantic evening, but The Picaroons Roundhouse is an outlier where you can enjoy craft beer with a quiet atmosphere that will let you savor your tap selections in peace. There’s a fantastic patio if you’re with a date looking to eat loaded fries or a chicken burger, but if you’re just in the market for some beer and low-decibel surroundings, hang in the main taphouse.
O’Hickey’s Irish Pub
$ | (506) 883-1119 | WEBSITE
Located in Fredericton, O’Hickey’s Irish Pub is the most prime after-hours drink spot in the city. If you couldn’t guess, this bar takes its Irish theme seriously, with a dark, quiet aesthetic and perfect little nooks creating a cozy atmosphere. The pints are solid enough, with a Moosehead Green costing over $10, and there are pitchers of Guinness available when the owners aren’t around.
This pub is also one of the few dog-friendly bars in town, making it a memorable spot to visit with your only friend from work while also planning your next great night out.
Jungle Jim’s
$$ | (506) 455-5467 | WEBSITE
Jungle Jim’s on Smythe Street in Fredericton feels more like a family-friendly party venue than a typical bar restaurant, which makes it perfect for a casual weeknight meal. That said, the atmosphere remains clean and pleasant, and aside from special occasions like birthday celebrations, the place is usually calm. They have plenty of options for food and drink, and great service from the attentive staff in case you need anything.
