The Bar is one of those places that’s been around forever in Midland and then slowly fell off people’s radar for no particular reason. Well, guess what? It’s time to put it back on. This laid-back dive bar with military memorabilia is as good as it’s ever been, with a comfortable, open space ideal for that casual night out you want to keep relaxed and fun. Burgers and bar food are the obvious move here, but if you’re in the mood for something heartier, their chicken fried steak is phenomenal.
Star Lite Saloon

Star Lite Saloon’s lively, welcoming space might look like it’s made for nighttime – but we like this place even better on a weekend afternoon. The atmosphere feels something close to classic Texas, plus a whole bunch of friendly regulars. Think karaoke with strangers who become family, pool games with knowledgeable bartenders, and slot machines you’ll definitely want to get involved in. The casual space is energetic and ideal for that group outing you don’t want to get too serious.
Cervecería 19

The fiesta is on, and it’s time to join in. Cervecería 19 is one of our favorite Hispanic havens in the Midland area, with a vibrant, maybe-I’m-drinking-in-Mexico feel and servers who know what they’re doing. The cozy patio and fun interior create an inviting atmosphere where lively Mexican music sets the tone. While some dishes could use more seasoning, the friendly and helpful staff are happy to make recommendations—like the standout cheeseburger with shrimp and queso.
With its extensive selection of Hispanic beers and liquors, delicious and affordable bar food, and quick service, Cervecería 19 is an excellent spot to enjoy a meal with family, friends, or solo.
Wall Street Bar & Grill

Wall Street Bar & Grill is easily one of the best places to grab a steak in Midland. The vibe can get a little lively on the weekends, but come on a weeknight after work and you’ll find a fairly relaxed, charming atmosphere that feels like you’re dining in an old western saloon (trust us, it’s appealing). The old western decor, with its rustic wood and vintage touches, sets the perfect tone.
You’ll find dishes like the juicy cilantro chicken, perfectly cooked linguini pasta, and grilled quail, all fresh and expertly prepared. The chicken fried steak is described as the most tender ever, and the grilled salmon with its refreshing salsa-like topping is a standout. With great food, exceptional service from a welcoming staff, and an inviting environment, it’s a memorable experience.
The bar staff is amazing too, taking excellent care of customers whether you’re there for a meal or just a drink.
Charlas Restaurante & Bar

You have more in common than a love of authentic Mexican flavors? Great. Head over to Charlas Restaurante & Bar, a vastly underrated spot in Midland. The worn-in space feels sort of like a neighborhood joint from the ’80s, complete with casual booths, a lively bar area, and that laid-back vibe. Oh, and the sweet tea is excellent. You might need it after all that menudo.
The Angry Armadillo Whisky Co.

Just a short drive from downtown Midland you’ll find The Angry Armadillo Whisky Co. – one of those rare spots where you can actually just walk in, grab a whisky at the bar, and settle in for some games. No reservations, no pretension, no overpriced drinks. Plus there’s live music and poker nights – a little entertainment never hurt anybody.
Fair to Midland

We wouldn’t usually advise you to head to Midland for a night out unless you have a hard 8pm bedtime and you still wear Juicy Couture sweatsuits. But Fair to Midland is the exception. This relaxed bar spot is full of staff who seem to enjoy talking to you, and a friendly crowd of people who stay at nearby hotels. Grab any of the standard bar fare, or the games like corn hole and Jenga.
The atmosphere is nice and not too loud, perfect for a date night or a casual hangout with plenty of parking available.
Mariscos El Chaka Seafood & Mexican Grill Restaurant

Just off the main drag in Midland is Mariscos El Chaka. It’s a seafood-focused (but not stuffy) spot inside a traditional setting, where you’ll find a lively (but not overwhelming) vibe and some of the best margaritas in West Texas. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Midland.
Leyenda Coffee & Tequila

Once the evening rolls around, make your way to Leyenda Coffee & Tequila to experience some of the most creative Mexican fusion in Midland. This is the kind of spot that works for most occasions, whether you’re catching up with friends or celebrating something special.
The space is usually buzzing with energy (thanks to that live DJ setting the mood), but you can still appreciate the vibrant atmosphere, the coffee is exceptional, and the setting feels like a modern cantina that happens to come with the best tequila and espresso martinis around.
The Buffalo Nickel by Cibolo Creek

If you and your friends share an appreciation for expertly crafted cocktails, you can’t go wrong with The Buffalo Nickel. Midland does rustic bars better than any other town in West Texas, and The Buffalo Nickel is the best of the best. It’s also the coziest of the best. The space is charmingly rustic and not particularly fancy, but you’ve moved past the need for sleek modern decor or minimalist design.
You’re here to relax together over a Pumpkin Spiced White Russian or an Old Fashioned, maybe with a cigar from their selection, all served by their friendly and attentive staff in that warm and inviting atmosphere.
The Blue Door

The thought of searching for a decent cocktail after a nice meal can ruin a perfect evening. So skip that hassle and head straight to The Blue Door. Even though it’s one of the most popular spots in Midland, The Blue Door somehow maintains a relaxed atmosphere while keeping the good times flowing inside. They offer fantastic cocktails and an equally impressive selection of craft beers to enjoy them with.
Cork & Pig Tavern

Cork & Pig Tavern is like stepping into a Texas comfort food fever dream, except no song and dance from the decor. The American menu at this local spot continues to be decent, and if you leave here with a lesser opinion of the secret cornbread than when you started, it just wasn’t meant to be.
Fast Freddy’s

You finished your night out and neither of you are ready to call it quits. Smart move: Head over to Fast Freddy’s, grab one of their cheap drinks from the bar, and find an open pool table. The vibrant, energetic spot gets packed on weekends, but you’ll always find room on the dance floor (and a solid drink from the bar) to keep the party going strong.
Macarena’s Delicious Mexican Dishes and Bar

You know that popular Mexican spot in Midland with the lively atmosphere? No, not that one. Or that one. Or that one. OK, so a lot of places are doing what Macarena’s is doing, but Macarena’s wins out for a fun night out with friends. The space is busy but welcoming, as in there’s music playing that can get loud in some areas, but also tables where you can properly enjoy your meal.
The menu is basically a list of what Mexican food is delicious right now (melted cheese with chorizo and avocado, enchiladas with shrimp, chicken, and steak), but it’s all tasty and very shareable.
