Tallahassee might be Florida’s capital, but it’s also a hidden gem for those who appreciate a proper drink alongside their meal. This city blends Southern charm with collegiate energy, creating vibrant spots where craft cocktails meet memorable dishes. From historic taverns to modern gastropubs, these 15 establishments prove that good food and great drinks are always better together.
Warhorse Whiskey Bar
$$ | (850) 765-9275 | WEBSITE
Warhorse Whiskey Bar is a lively, welcoming whiskey spot right in the heart of Tallahassee. It’s a great option for a group celebration, Friday night out, or simply enjoying expertly crafted drinks. The bar has lots of good offerings—an impressive selection of bourbon, expertly crafted cocktails, and delicious pizzas from the adjoining kitchen, including the spicy buffalo chicken pizza.
They have knowledgeable bartenders like Pat who can guide you through their extensive bourbon list, but also friendly staff like Zac providing personalized recommendations in case you want that kind of service. Warhorse is also a popular spot on Friday nights if you’re looking for that kind of lively atmosphere to enjoy with friends.
Stix Pool & Bar
$$ | (850) 320-6794 | WEBSITE
Tallahassee is an incredibly casual city. We like that about it—but this also means there aren’t a ton of lively hangout spots worth going out of your way for. Stix Pool & Bar is a wonderful exception. This pool hall and bar is located in a clean, inviting space and has a great social vibe—both from the well-maintained tables and the friendly seating areas. That atmosphere is worth coming alone, but Stix also has really good food and one of the best setups of any casual spot in Tallahassee.
There are drinks if you want to splurge, as well as solid bar bites, pool games, and more activities that utilize the chill staff.
Bullwinkle’s Saloon
$ | (850) 224-0651 | WEBSITE
Yes, there are other popular college bars in Tallahassee, but Bullwinkle’s Saloon is our top choice. This is a Tallahassee classic. The drinks are all solid, but you’re coming here for the all-you-can-drink specials, especially on College Night. Plus, if you’re celebrating, the whole place gets into it with beer pong and shots like the blueberry muffin and key lime pie. They also have a safe parking lot and cheap drinks, including a free drink with cover. Just expect some lines at the door.
The Palace Saloon
$ | (850) 575-3418 | WEBSITE
This beer-only dive bar is a fitting spot to celebrate your college buddy’s graduation, or gather a group of FSU students for a rowdy Thursday night. Practice restraint on the Four Lokos so you have room for the most important thing here: sake bomb shots that hit with the force of a freight train. In terms of entertainment, prioritize the pool tables and dart boards—and then say yes to conversation, laughter, and genuine atmosphere for the next few hours.
The experience costs about $20 for a solid buzz. They offer a dive bar vibe with worn-in charm that feels awfully similar to your favorite local haunt. And that’s not an insult.
Crave Social Eatery
$ | (850) 629-4570 | WEBSITE
Drive around Tallahassee and you’ll find plenty of spots to grab a bite. But if you’re looking for something fresh and fun, we’re heading straight to Crave Social Eatery. This welcoming eatery pulls off being both a relaxed hangout and a serious food spot—and their customizable menu has never disappointed us. The menu isn’t overwhelming—there are generally a few smoothie options and Korean bowl varieties that mostly focus on healthy, build-your-own meals. But it’s all tasty.
Choices include refreshing fruit smoothies, customizable bibimbap, and one of the best veggie-packed bowls around. It’s one of those places that feels more like hanging out in a friend’s bright, spacious kitchen than a restaurant, so keep it in mind for family outings.
Just One More
$ | (850) 727-0613 | WEBSITE
Just down the street from the usual spots is Just One More, which is basically a family-friendly game bar (we mean that as a compliment). There are colorful lights strung across the dance floor, and the walls are lined with framed photos of community events instead of typical bar memorabilia. Skip the idea of dinner and take advantage of Just One More’s karaoke nights, which feature an impressively friendly crowd that welcomes newcomers. Grab a seat at the bar, too.
There are games everywhere you look, the dance floor is perfect for letting loose, and the place is right in the heart of Tallahassee. The atmosphere is worth bringing the whole family for.
Fire Betty’s
$$ | (850) 329-8113 | WEBSITE
It’s easy to walk past Fire Betty’s and think to yourself, “Hey, there goes another regular ol’ bar.” But this deceptively simple spot is a Tallahassee classic. This is mostly because they host some of the best entertainment in North Florida. These aren’t quiet little shows, but big performances perfect for lively friends who are ready to laugh for the next couple of hours. Start with a drink from the bar, where Monika and Robert serve up highly recommended cocktails.
The comedy nights are a good idea too, but there are no bad decisions here, especially if it involves Rocky Horror Picture Show or open mic night. Just know that they have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry and the atmosphere is always welcoming, so come ready for a fun night out.
Chill Roadside Bar & Stuff | THC Mocktail Bar & Vintage Store
$ | WEBSITE
Chill Roadside Bar & Stuff is a roadside spot serving great THC-free mocktails alongside a menu of very good bar food and vintage finds. It’s the kind of relaxed space where you can come to unwind alone and sip for a couple of hours—but the drinks are good enough that it’s also worth coming here if it’s just the evening and you’re thirsty. If you’re in a creative mood, go with the owners’ recommendations, a supportive riff with sweet and kind hospitality.
The atmosphere is soft as a cloud, and there is a rotating vibe of the day. It’s never not fun to be pleasantly surprised by a kool experience.
Black Radish Bar and Restaurant
$$ | (850) 825-1973 | WEBSITE
Black Radish is another solid option if you’re looking for something upscale with a nice, secluded atmosphere. This farm-to-table spot is a highly-recommended destination in Tallahassee. One side of Black Radish’s menu is devoted to vegetable-focused dishes—like very good grits loaf—and the meat side offers options like rib eye and Scotch Egg. It has dishes like snapper small plate, Bubble Potatoes, and a handful of seasonal produce creations.
The food, service, and warm wood interior (at least while the lights are low) are all worthy of a special occasion meal if you’re coming here to celebrate something—even if that something is just being in a dining room where everyone’s enjoying amazing flavors that really complement each other.
The Wilbury
$ | (850) 320-6353 | WEBSITE
If you’re looking for something a little more casual among Tallahassee’s sea of upscale spots, this is a good place to go. The menu has its standout items—like Buffalo flash fried smoked wings with Alabama white sauce and loaded pulled pork cheese fries—but also enough straightforward plates to make a non-adventurous eater feel comfortable. Their wings might just be the city’s best and the mixed drinks are seriously good.
Service is on top of everything and the dive bar atmosphere has an energy appropriate for hanging out with friends.
Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille
$$ | (850) 222-3976 | WEBSITE
You can’t miss Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille. This upscale yet down-to-earth spot offers the best patio views in Tallahassee. They put so much flavor in their dishes, you can barely decide what to order first. The rich and creamy “she crab” soup and savory calamari are great choices. But if it’s available, try the Boudin Balls, Louisiana Fondeaux, or our favorite: red beans and rice split with a side of collards. All meals come with that relaxing atmosphere and friendly, attentive service.
But also ask about happy hour if you want top-shelf drinks at lower prices (you do). You can sit at the bar or on the patio, but wait times can be around 20 minutes on busy nights like FAMU home games, so plan ahead if you’re in a rush.
Township
$ | (850) 894-6795 | WEBSITE
There’s not much to the dining room of this casual, student-friendly sports bar. The excitement lives on the menu. Township offers a page of bar food with big swings of flavor, and a unique coin-flip promotion you should prioritize. The burgers are served on buns that require two hands to grasp. Four generously stuffed wings swim in house sauce. And the coin-flip drinks—enjoyable on their own—are served with a side of lively atmosphere.
It’s perfect for a casual gathering, or a handy backup plan if the wait at nearby campus spots is too long (they share the FSU neighborhood).
Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack
$ | (850) 222-1075 | WEBSITE
Everything has changed since Bird’s opened in Tallahassee, which makes the preservation of this lively dive bar vibe all the more impressive. That passion-cooked food is why Bird’s is still a destination for oyster shack obsessives. It feels like walking into a local joint full of regulars who discovered the $1 PBR specials years ago and have been steadily enjoying them since.
The delectable menu items like garlic Parmesan baked oysters and blackened chicken sandwiches are simply background noise to the trivia nights and fun ambiance. You can just come here for a great selection of beer both on tap and in cans. But, at least once, book a table for what purports to be one of the best dining experiences in the area.
Brick House Restaurant & Bar
$ | (850) 577-1230 | WEBSITE
Don’t feel like dealing with crowded campus spots? This reliable restaurant is only a short walk away. Brick House serves up good food with flavors more satisfying than finding an open table on game day. The simple pub setting is clean, but the atmosphere is wonderfully social. Start by grabbing a seat on their outdoor patio. Over on the menu, the must-order item is their solidly good pizza.
Then, you’re in good hands with pretty much any affordable drink and attentive service from staff like Crystal.
Madison Social
$ | (850) 894-6276 | WEBSITE
This bustling restaurant is in the heart of Tallahassee and serves some of the best burgers in town. Whether you’re biting into a juicy patty, crispy fries, or the Korean cauliflower, every item is cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The burgers are satisfying on their own, but the Madison Mule is also exceptional—made with a combination of ginger beer and lime.
Madison Social also serves other shareable plates, like trivia night on Tuesdays, along with brunch staples like indoor and outdoor seating. They have a trendy atmosphere with a good sound system, but most people come for the welcoming environment and attentive staff.
