Welcome to North Hollywood, a neighborhood that’s perfect for morning feasting and cafe-hopping. It’s practically designed to be one big breakfast crawl for early risers, with breaks in between for strolling through arts districts, catching a matinee, and sipping more coffee.
The Magnolia Grille
$ | (818) 766-8698 | WEBSITE
Finding breakfast at The Magnolia Grille is a whole experience—assuming you’re looking for that perfect hometown spot. Spoiler alert: it’s tucked away with a nice-sized parking lot, right next to the covered patio and behind those charming trees and dividers. Beyond its simple entrance is a cozy space full of old-school decor, a warm, unpretentious vibe that hangs in the air, and consistently delicious food that’ll satisfy your morning more than the coffee at any chain next door.
Throw in their classic comfort menu with popular dishes like the Cobb omelette and French toast, and you have a whole morning of comfort, relaxation, and maybe a table full of family enjoying the kid-friendly atmosphere.
Blu Jam Cafe
$$ | (323) 951-9191 | WEBSITE
Situated in the heart of North Hollywood, Blu Jam Cafe is a popular waiting spot for brunch enthusiasts who are patient, determined, and apparently have an hour to spare. But even if you’re not stuck in brunch purgatory, it’s a great place to get a taste of the local scene, including a plate of crunchy toast with that unique vanilla sauce, an LA delicacy.
Blu Jam Cafe has been around for years, but the modern tables and clean, bright interior could fool you into thinking it’s a brand-new neighborhood spot. Along with standout Eggs Benedict, they also have delicious breakfast burritos, salmon hash, and even vegan options like the house-made soyrizo wrap.
Nat’s Early Bite
$ | (818) 781-3040 | WEBSITE
Nat’s Early Bite serves seriously great breakfast food, even if the strip-mall parking lot with just 25 spots and some seating rules make it seem somewhat no-frills. The breakfast here is expertly prepared, like their variety of options that include vegetarian choices and excellent bacon. And like the honey nut bran muffin, grilled to perfection, or traditional Jewish dishes like Matzo Brei that can be customized with salami and onion, they’re perfect for a group to share as they start their day.
Nat’s Early Bite is a nostalgic breakfast spot with excellent food and a lively atmosphere, but they also have a great selection of reasonably priced items that make it a great value—AKA their must-try English muffins, naturally.
The Griddle Cafe
$$ | (323) 378-6311 | WEBSITE
This LA diner has one of the city’s best French pressed coffees regardless if you’re team pancake, French toast, or omelet. We’re also big fans of their Grandma’s French Toast with its sweet, thick slices and the savory Baja Loco Tacos. And when it’s too loud to hang out in their lively main dining area, their bright space’s energetic vibe still guarantees that you can get your fun fix.
Monte Carlo Cafe
$ | (310) 818-6628 | WEBSITE
This classic diner-inspired cafe is known for its fantastic food and super friendly atmosphere, and attracts both local breakfast enthusiasts and visitors alike. But unlike peak hours where the wait can be long enough to sneak in a game of checkers, stopping by mid-morning is like catching the Breakfast Express.
The double bacon cheese burger with homemade taste is a must, but make sure to also check out other non-burger items like the delicious chorizo breakfast burrito with sauce on the side or veggie cheese omelette with fresh hash browns.
Cafe 50’s
$ | (310) 479-1955 | WEBSITE
When the morning calls for family-friendly strategizing and a hearty sit-down meal, consider Cafe 50’s in North Hollywood for a power breakfast. The spacious and nostalgic dining room thrives on efficiency, as families and solo visitors fuel up with safe classics like the perfectly cooked bacon and eggs and non-sweet options like the turkey chili and must-try Deviled Eggs.
Cafe 50’s also has a long list of creative milkshakes, so grab a generously-portioned coffee shake or the 50/50 plate with half onion rings and half fries to-go before finally checking out the ample parking possibilities.
John O’ Groats
$$ | (310) 204-0692 | WEBSITE
We’ve yet to find a morning where stopping by John O’Groats isn’t a fantastic idea. But this perpetually-busy spot from a warm-hearted owner will definitely need some patience on Sunday brunch—try for a weekday breakfast to increase your chance of a quick seat. Personally, we like to walk-in early and grab a stool at the counter facing the kitchen and smile happily at all the pancakes we can’t wait to devour, because nearly every plate is delicious (and reasonably priced).
Try the pancakes with sunny-side-up eggs, sausage, and bacon or the biscuits with sausage (warm, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth good), and attempt to save room for the inevitable leftovers you’ll want to take home.
Bea Bea’s
$$ | (818) 846-2327 | WEBSITE
It’s easy to spot breakfast lovers with similar great taste at Bea Bea’s, a popular destination in North Hollywood with a line outside while nearby spots are empty. But accidentally sharing a smile while waiting for the last bite of win’s omelette is common here, as consistent as the excellence of their fresh Early Bite Burrito.
The space is all about warm mornings—for its bustling tables, quick service, and coffee—which keeps the atmosphere friendly, even when Bea Bea’s inevitably gets busy with people. Find parking early on weekends, and plan on chatting with fellow diners also fixated on Bea Bea’s must-order French toast with strawberries.
Rise N Shine Cafe
$ | (818) 352-5755 | WEBSITE
At this cozy breakfast spot, it’s common to see families sharing stacks of fluffy pancakes while kids giggle over syrup-drenched plates, and servers efficiently refill coffee mugs before you even notice they’re empty. But you’ll also see regulars grabbing quick bacon-and-egg combos at the counter, and friends splitting generous turkey clubs while debating whether the cheesy grits or veggie omelette deserves more praise.
Rise N Shine Cafe expertly walks the tightrope of feeling welcoming without being chaotic—a balance that extends to its menu of classics like perfectly cooked bacon and eggs and satisfying, hearty dishes like that large OJ worth every penny.
IHOP
$ | (818) 837-1814 | WEBSITE
This classic, family-friendly breakfast spot in North Hollywood has been serving the community for decades. IHOP’s familiar exterior hasn’t changed since the neighborhood was full of movie studios, and inside, they’re still making the most delicious breakfast classics in the area. Specifically, the chicken and waffles, which comes with crispy fried chicken, fluffy Belgian waffles, and a surprisingly delicate maple syrup butter.
Belgium Waffle Haus
$ | (818) 853-7233 | WEBSITE
If you can’t make it to your favorite brunch spot, Belgium Waffle Haus is the next best version of a classic breakfast cafe (waffles with that perfect crisp, eggs cooked just right). There’s plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, which means getting your morning fix is considerably easier. The waffles are crispy yet soft, there’s a ton of flavor, and the whole meal is pretty much a satisfying and delicious experience. You can even order a single waffle with eggs.
It’s like a full breakfast, except it’s perfectly portioned and won’t leave you stuffed. After a trip here you might want to make sure your afternoon schedule is light the rest of the day.
Victory Caffe
$ | (747) 264-0929 | WEBSITE
Finding a truly satisfying vegan breakfast (even with health-conscious friends) can be quite the challenge, so luckily there’s Victory Caffe, which offers some very good Mexican-inspired vegan dishes. Yes, there are vegetarian options and traditional breakfast items, but the best is their vegan breakfast burrito—it’s packed with flavor and nutrients, with generous portions and simple, wholesome ingredients.
The Van Nuys location is counter-service, family-owned, and has a cozy atmosphere for small groups that get tired of the crowded chain spots in the area. But this is an especially good option when you just want to enjoy your vegan waffles and excellent coffee in peace while everyone else spends the morning at the more mainstream brunch places.
Prime Caffe west LA
$ | (424) 248-3450 | WEBSITE
Start off a morning in North Hollywood at this hidden gem in West LA, which is great for classic breakfast fare. But any adventurous, food-loving trailblazers should order the waffles, which don’t need complex menu descriptions to parse—just trust the friendly staff’s recommendation for the light, crispy, and soft interior that rivals French pastries.
Come early in the day, before the cozy nooks and clean tables are filled with people trying to impress their brunch party with a tolerance for something savory like the spinach scrambled eggs with shaved parmesan when they secretly wish the meal was sweet and satisfying like the caprese avocado toast or vanilla cold brew.
Muffin Can Stop Us
$ | (747) 774-4394 | WEBSITE
Muffin Can Stop Us benefits from its North Hollywood location—it’s a clean and welcoming spot that’s perfect for starting your day. The small but simple menu also makes things easy too, with enough options for regulars who want to begin their morning with a classic muffin sandwich, or get more flavor from their salmon sandwich.
The yogurt with granola, strawberries, blueberries, and almonds is a solid way to jumpstart a day of exploring the area, especially if the morning involves grabbing a quick coffee from their exceptional brew.
Miracle Bakery
$ | (818) 561-4883 | WEBSITE
North Hollywood may not be the first place you think of for breakfast, but there are plenty of quality options throughout the neighborhood. And the ones at Miracle Bakery are perfect for a pre-work morning or to fuel your weekend errands. These baked goods are made fresh throughout the day—a watchable activity thanks to the cozy open kitchen vibe—and come in interesting flavors like Froot Loop lavender gluten-free donuts, or rotating specials like almond croissants.
Whatever you choose, these fluffy and flavorful pastries seem designed to be paired with their excellent coffee, which features creative options like lattes with cafe de olla syrup. The blueberry muffins are particularly noteworthy, and the patio area is nice and breezy for enjoying your meal.
Jose Chiquito
$ | (213) 680-3363 | WEBSITE
Jose Chiquito’s version of a Mexican breakfast joint has chorizo and potatoes instead of just eggs and toast. And while a tourist or two might wander in, the scene leans toward locals who’ve been coming here since the place first opened. The breakfast burritos, like the chorizo with potatoes option, are better than average, and it’s common to see regulars marking another morning survived with a few cups of solid coffee (and maybe a breakfast sandwich or two).
The restaurant is like a neighborhood spot’s sunlit hangout corner, and it’s an ideal scene for those who want authentic food and a good meal, without a pretentious crowd.
Eggslut
$ | (213) 625-0292 | WEBSITE
We often treat Eggslut’s menu like a breakfast Pinterest board, a place to scroll and fantasize about theoretical morning visits. All the egg dishes at this North Hollywood spot are made with consistently good ingredients, with your choice of delectable options—like the Fairfax sandwich, egg salad sandwich, and hot spring eggs, where the eggs are paired with mashed potatoes on a garlicky baguette, topped with unique hash-browns, fresh orange juice, and iced cinnamon cold brew.
If you’re looking for some of the best egg-based breakfasts in North Hollywood, this bustling restaurant is a great place to start.
Graciana Mexican Restaurant
$ | (818) 365-0635 | WEBSITE
Unlike other trendy Mexican spots in the area, Graciana doesn’t have flashy neon signs or decor that screams “Instagrammable.” The inviting, old-school Tijuana vibe is ideal for weekend breakfasts, or relaxed hangs with people who appreciate authentic neighborhood spots.
The attention to detail starts with fresh chips and tasty bean dip and salsa and extends to generous portions like the highly recommended tortilla soup, and dishes like the steak, shrimp combo and wet burrito that deliver good Mexican flavors. The menudo bowl is especially loved by those seeking traditional Mexican dishes, and while service can sometimes be slow, the staff are friendly and do their best.
With most dishes costing around $20, Graciana Mexican Restaurant provides quality food and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a place worth revisiting for those craving authentic Mexican cuisine.
Hill Street
$ | (818) 845-0046 | WEBSITE
Hill Street in North Hollywood isn’t the most centrally located spot—plan on a short drive from the Valley’s main hubs or a 15-minute walk from the nearest Metro station. But the perfectly cooked steak in their wet burrito alone elevates it above typical diner fare.
Hill Street is a classic family diner that’s always bustling in the morning with regulars and families grabbing breakfast, so weekend visitors should expect a brief wait, and it’s another 10 to 15-minute wait after ordering the pancakes. But like the effort it took to discover one of our favorite breakfast spots, it’s more than worth it.
