Pleasanton’s culinary identity has long been shaped by The Three B’s (our fresh invention): business parks, beautiful trails, and the bustling farmers’ market that draws crowds every Saturday. Recently, the morning dining scene has quietly transformed, making this East Bay city an essential stop for those who truly appreciate starting their day with exceptional food, coffee, and community.
Skilletz
$ | (510) 793-8161 | WEBSITE
Skilletz feels like stepping back into the retro heyday of the 1950s. It was renovated back in 2023 and remains a historic landmark with a very cozy seating area. The restaurant is right in the Niles district, the main drag through Pleasanton, so you’ll be super centrally located. Highlights of the menu include linguica with everything, fried chicken and waffles, bacon and eggs, and french toast so you can enjoy classic breakfast from your table.
IHOP
$ | (925) 606-8887 | WEBSITE
IHOP is a classic breakfast restaurant that’s conveniently located in Pleasanton’s Tri-Valley area. It’s also one of the most affordable dining options in town, with meals that typically cost around $15 per person. Highlights include eggs Benedict served promptly and tuna sandwiches without bread for those looking for lighter fare. The entire restaurant is very spacious and clean, with plenty of parking available right outside.
All the servers are respectful and friendly, and some even remember customer preferences from previous visits.
Denica’s Real Food Kitchen
$ | (925) 447-9500 | WEBSITE
This breakfast spot is pretty versatile. You could grab a sunny table on their outdoor patio, settle into a booth with the family, or snag a counter seat and chat with the friendly staff. There’s a nice menu that hits a bunch of cravings, including sections devoted to hearty plates, sweet breakfasts, and lunch specials.
Go heavy on favorites like the Kahlua pork hash, chilaquiles, and James Special Omelette, order some guava pancakes or a cookie dough waffle, and don’t miss the avocado toast with tomato soup if you need something more substantial.
Dino’s Family Restaurant
$ | (510) 792-6533 | WEBSITE
While Dino’s has been the go-to spot in Pleasanton for a classic breakfast since it opened, they might be equally known for the cozy, old-school atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Even if you’re not a regular, you can settle into one of the well-worn booths, which haven’t changed much over the years, with vintage decor and simple table settings, or grab a stool at the counter where the coffee is always fresh.
The menu includes all the diner staples like pancakes, bacon, and hash browns, but you absolutely must order the corned beef hash with poached eggs. Add on a side of their house-made salsa and consider trying the all-veggie omelette, which has just enough flavor to please vegetarians without skimping on satisfaction. And if you’re here for brunch, the chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy is one of the best in town.
Dublin Skillet
$ | (925) 828-4731 | WEBSITE
While they’re known for their satisfying breakfast menu, the hash browns are what sets the morning apart at Dublin Skillet. What started as a local diner has evolved into a beloved neighborhood spot, where the menu also includes very good, classic options like pancakes, eggs, and omelets. Going for breakfast will give you the best experience—try the fluffy pancakes with maple syrup, the three-egg omelet with cheese and vegetables, and the simple coffee that’s dark and delicious.
There are few things better than having their breakfast plates and a fresh cup of coffee at one of the cozy booths when the doo-wop music is playing.
Bill’s Cafe – Pleasanton
$ | (925) 426-5500 | WEBSITE
There’s not a bad seat in the house at Bill’s Cafe, one of Pleasanton’s favorite breakfast spots. Snag a table on the patio for a morning meal of chorizo omelette or Hawaiian pancakes, or grab one inside for a hearty breakfast and order things like their signature corned beef hash and the decadent bread pudding French toast with raisins, nuts, and banana. Whenever you’re here though, definitely order the Mexican-influenced scramble that’s been occupying our thoughts nonstop since we tasted it.
Vics All Star Kitchen
$ | (925) 484-0789 | WEBSITE
Tucked away in Pleasanton, Vics All Star Kitchen is a cozy old-style diner with a fun, sporty vibe and bright, clean atmosphere, where you should grab a seat at the outdoor patio to enjoy the nice mid-morning breeze. A generous breakfast is a welcome treat so you can fuel up before heading out to explore what Pleasanton has to offer, whether it be a relaxed Sunday stroll, meeting up with friends for brunch, or networking with local groups.
Jim’s Country Style Restaurant
$ | (925) 426-7019 | WEBSITE
We used to think of Jim’s Country Style Restaurant as one of Pleasanton’s best-kept secrets, but pretty much everybody eats here now. Don’t let that discourage you—there are plenty of great breakfast classics, the staff is super friendly, the food comes fast and hot, and you can even park your RV.
Their big menu offers good American breakfasts with large portions, but we love the regular menu staples like the steak sandwich, chicken fried steak and eggs, or the comforting biscuits and gravy ‘Dustin Style’.
Bill’s Cafe
$ | (510) 894-2224 | WEBSITE
The menu stays reliably consistent at Bill’s Cafe, but everything coming off the grill is a prime example of why sticking to the classics isn’t so bad after all. You’ll find stacks of pancakes and plates of eggs and bacon, but we tend to prioritize the breakfast and lunch staples. Go for the hearty chicken burger with nice stringy fries and the beef burger that remains a highlight, though be prepared for portions that can be a bit too big.
While we love this spot for a casual weekend brunch or a quick lunch, Bill’s Cafe is really a place where you could easily come back every morning of the week and not get tired of the welcoming, old-fashioned comfort food vibe.
Country Waffles
$ | (925) 443-9904 | WEBSITE
Country Waffles often has a wait from the crack of dawn, but this is one line you’ll definitely want to join. Whether you swing by for their famous mushroom omelet or grab one of their turkey croissants to take back to your hotel, or settle into the clean, spacious dining room for breakfast favorites like the grilled salmon flank omelette, you won’t leave unsatisfied.
In our opinion, the smartest play is to snag a booth, order a hearty plate like the country fried steak with perfectly seasoned home fries, and pick up a fresh waffle or some hash browns with bacon on your way to the convenient parking lot.
