A burger alone is a beautiful thing, but pair it with the right setting and toppings, and you’ve reached culinary nirvana. These Katy patties—from smash-style to towering stacks—are as satisfying as a Friday night lights victory or finding the perfect parking spot at Katy Mills. While we can’t list every single burger joint in town, this is where to begin when that carnivorous craving hits or when you need to impress out-of-town relatives.
Burger King
$ | (346) 307-7456 | WEBSITE
Not to be confused with the fast-food chain of the same name, this Katy location offers classic burgers and quick-service fare. Hone in on the Spicy Chicken Wrap. As much as we love burgers, we’re here for the attention to detail it receives. It’s consistently tasty and reliably satisfying, and the service leaves a positive impression on your visit. The fresh fries and helpful staff like Anderson are an added benefit though.
Dukes
$ | (346) 307-7608 | WEBSITE
You’re probably at this Venezuelan spot with your arepa blinders on, and while this casual place does a great rendition of their signature fried corn cakes, you shouldn’t overlook their Pabellon. The generously stuffed arepa, served with a heaping portion the size of a small plate, is packed with shredded beef, cheese, and beans that meld into a savory, satisfying bite with a single forkful. They come in fried or grilled, but you’ll want fried.
Kowbell Burger
$ | (832) 437-5416 | WEBSITE
The Kowbell Classic burger at this Katy spot gets most of the love, but the welcoming restaurant also knows their way around an excellent fusion creation. The K-town Cowboy burger features a perfectly juicy patty and a sweet-spicy kimchi jam you’ll polish right off. It’s also loaded up with crunchy bacon, melted cheese, and that delightful balance of flavors. Round things out with some kimchi fries and the truffle parmesan fries with aioli, and you’re all set.
Smashburger
$ | (281) 644-0105 | WEBSITE
Our favorite burger joint in Katy is Smashburger. The smashed patties, with a crispy char that locks in all the juices and a generous sprinkle of seasoning that gives each bite a savory punch, will be devoured by everyone at the table in no time. The burgers are the highlight of the menu at this welcoming spot and the edible embodiment of comfort food.
MONARCA BAR AND GRILL
$ | (978) 962-9203 | WEBSITE
This Katy gem needs no introduction, but we’ll give one anyway—Monarca’s world’s best hamburger is worth the trip across town it draws every weekend. We’d slather their crunchy bacon and melted cheese on everything. And you should, too. Head over to get your hands on the Sancocho. It’s loaded with authentic Dominican flavors and is the centerpiece of every celebration.
JLB Eatery – Old Katy
$ | (832) 437-3048 | WEBSITE
JLB Eatery is a Katy institution for burgers and comfort food, full stop. If you need more proof, look to the perpetually packed dining room and families waiting for a table each evening. The casual American restaurant runs a tight operation—before you even have time to glance at the menu, someone will appear to take your order. Go with the JLB burger.
It’s a classic you’ll see on most tables, and this version is generously packed with both chicken and beef, served with a mountain of chili cheese fries.
Pappa Gyros
$ | (832) 391-6172 | WEBSITE
The beef gyro is the specialty at this welcoming Greek spot in Katy—shaved meat is served with a blend of spices that sing with every bite. Do everything in your power, short of driving here in pajamas, to get a platter—the meat has so much flavor that your taste buds will need a moment to register its comforting warmth. When you’re done devouring the gyro, you can finish with the baklava so you can savor every last bit right at the table.
OMG! Burger
$ | (281) 717-4545 | WEBSITE
While everything at OMG! Burger is worth a detour, we would push someone out of the way to get the last of the OMG Burger with extra jalapenos. It’s maximalist burger-making at its best with juicy beef combined with a showstopping spice kick, crisp toppings, a giant mound of fries, and a homemade feel. It’s so good you’ll immediately start planning your return visit. But be forewarned, this cozy burger joint is prone to running out of their Buffalo Chicken sandwich.
So make sure that follow-up visit is an early dinner.
TrappedSmokeBBQ LLC
$ | (225) 937-2140 | WEBSITE
Yes, we know, it’s tucked away in a gas station. But seeking out BBQ this next-level is worth it. The classic brisket is iconic. The meat is moist and the right amount of tender. Well-seasoned ribs are flavor-rich, and the delicious sausage adds variety. This is an A+ plate of barbecue and everyone who finds it knows it.
Foodie Trucks Park, LLC
$ | (832) 567-1516 | WEBSITE
This always-buzzing Katy food park offers global street food specialties galore. On nights when you really want to keep things casual, it’s Neetu’s Kitchen all the way. The flavors are vibrant and satisfying. There’s an abundance of outdoor seating. And the atmosphere leaves a lively, energetic feeling that somehow doesn’t overwhelm.
Whataburger
$ | (281) 599-8952 | WEBSITE
This fast-food joint off the I-10 nails every element of a classic burger. Their rendition has crunch from the crispy hash browns, a juicy patty, and a breakfast burger that’ll stick in your mind for weeks. You’ll have regrets about not ordering more even before you get to your last bite—all the more reason to return next time you’re cruising through Katy.
9er’s Grill
$ | (281) 395-1133 | WEBSITE
It’s tough to pick our favorite burger at 9er’s Grill, but the classic cheeseburger nudges out the chicken fried steak just a bit, thanks to the flame-grilled patty. It has a simple char, and flavor that can only be matched by that one grandma’s secret hash recipe. The fries are not to be overlooked, though—they’re crisp with a little bit of seasoning, and even the unlimited coffee refills can’t make them go limp.
Onion rings are available if you want them (though you probably will), and if you’re not one to skip a good deal, you can also get a combo plate with the burger and steak.
Krico’s Latin Kitchen & Bar
$ | (832) 437-4134 | WEBSITE
You don’t need us to tell you that the crowds flocking to Krico’s in Katy are here for the gyro pizza—the dish is a neighborhood legend, on par with a Friday night lights game. But their Chicken Parmigiana is just as deserving of the spotlight. The perfectly breaded cutlet comes smothered in marinara and melted mozzarella, served with a side of hot soft breadsticks and butter. Deeply satisfying flavors make you one step closer to full-blown contentment. Don’t question how. Just go.
Mugshots Tavern
$ | (281) 859-9100 | WEBSITE
If it wasn’t obvious from the name, this welcoming Katy spot specializes in burgers. Specifically, burgers from the weekend parking lot events, and damn, they do them well. The menu looks straightforward at first glance, but you’ll quickly realize that the tavern offers mostly just slightly different combinations of these excellent burgers, cheap drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere. We recommend the bartender Layla—she’s friendly, quick with drinks, and makes the bar a great place to be.
She’s the perfect companion for these wonderful burgers and live music.
Joy Love Burgers
$ | (832) 437-8831 | WEBSITE
You’ll find fantastic burgers at Burger Joint, Smashburger, and the other top burger spots across Katy. Joy Love Burgers is one of the few that offers a massive deluxe burger—and for that we are grateful. It’s perfectly seasoned, comes with fresh ingredients, and is piled high with toppings that give the dish some serious flavor. There are several burger joints across town, but we love the original Joy Love Burgers that’s always bustling with burger-devouring groups.
