Krazy Kooters’ mission isn’t to serve the biggest or greasiest patties, but to show how creative and well-crafted smash burgers can be.
While the menu offers classic options, three standout creations from their regular lineup shine: the Bacon Blue with its perfect balance of smoky bacon and tangy blue cheese; the El Diablito with just the right amount of spicy kick; and their crispy fried pickles that are addictive. The atmosphere is fantastic with a beautiful and well put together theme, featuring a great rooftop deck and outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal.
On weekend brunches, magicians visit tables, adding to the fun vibe. The staff is attentive, friendly, and rocks, making the whole experience feel special. With burgers priced around $14-18 and sides like those pickles at $8, it’s worth every penny for the quality and atmosphere. This place makes burgers feel like an event, not just a meal.
Flights & Irons Urban Kitchen

Flights & Irons Urban Kitchen serves up some of my favorite comfort food and the most satisfying chili in San Clemente. I frequently go for the BBQ Chicken Salad, the chili with cornbread, and their double cut pork chop with applesauce. This neighborhood gem calls itself an ‘urban kitchen,’ which is a sentiment myself and many other locals can relate to: blending classic dishes with unique twists but delivering flavors, quality, and service that represents it all.
Mr Pete’s Burgers

Yes, I promise that you want this burger badly enough that you’ll drive through before the restaurant closes. It’s rare to see this kind of Hawaiian-inspired comfort food outside of specialty spots, but the new ownership is bringing it into focus at Mr Pete’s, a huge win for championing flavor within the casual dining scene. If you leave without getting the Mr Pete’s burger, I will be mad at you, find you, and personally drag you back to the drive-thru with me. Lucky you, I guess!
The hollandaise sauce is named as such because it has a quite memorable Hawaiian flavor inside the sauce itself, in addition to the traditional Kaula pork Benedict and French toast. At Mr Pete’s, it is excellent.
Docent Brewing

Docent Brewing is a top-rated urban brewery in a chill beach town, but don’t let that fool you because you and your non-beer-drinking friends will definitely leave very satisfied and probably very full. Sipping award-winning IPAs with perfectly cooked fries, flavorful tacos with well-prepared tortillas, and that roasted chicken salad sandwich with cucumber salad is definitely a way I love to spend my time.
The vibe at Docent is cozy, fun, and welcoming – a true neighborhood spot that feels as appropriate for a fun weekend hangout as it does for a weeknight post-work, with both indoor seating and that hidden patio for a unique experience.
Biggie’s Burgers

The bustling yet intimate energy at Biggie’s Burgers makes me feel like I’m in for a treat, and that’s before I even take a bite. Biggie’s specializes in burgers and everything hot dog, which is classic American comfort food. Each burger is grilled to perfection, and tastes like it was made with love and care. Don’t expect fancy frills, though. What you get is generous, high-quality food that makes you feel satisfied.
I typically order the chili dog, which is a flavorful hot dog topped with chili and one of their most popular menu items. Also they have shakes made with real ice cream, and I get one every time.
The Habit Burger Grill

When you spend a ridiculous amount of time grilling burgers at home like I do, you become picky when you’re eating classic burgers out in the wild. But the portobello burger from The Habit Burger Grill always hits. It’s made with care and they happen to have crispy string beans, too. Not that anyone asked, but I would definitely swim in the sauce.
Fisherman’s Galley

Fisherman’s Galley is just wonderful. A classic burger and ice cream spot with a pleasant patio view is something I find extremely charming, personally…and I haven’t even mentioned the cheeseburger, fries, and sunny seaside vibes. I love that the signature cheeseburger is not just delicious and comforting, but also reminiscent of In-N-Out in lieu of the fancy gourmet burgers you typically see on a menu that offers a ‘best burger’ spot.
In Fisherman’s Galley’s soft serve cone, you’ll find flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and their popular swirl…which I think is supposed to make you feel better about all the fries you’re going to eat? Either way, you’re going to enjoy this one.
The Riders Club Cafe

I find myself at The Riders Club Cafe often. It’s a spot I love to suggest to folks visiting San Clemente, and particularly to those who might scoff at the idea of a simple burger joint. The burgers are crafted with care, and are consistently generous and satisfying. Honestly, any place that offers both sweet potato waffle fries and a carnitas sandwich on the menu is somewhere I can rely on. The fries are crispy, with a delightful flavor coming from the seasoning and texture.
Even if you’re tired of restaurants overcomplicating burgers (see: truffle oil, foie gras, gold leaf, etc.), this is a burger experience you won’t regret.
In-N-Out Burger

I love In-N-Out Burger and visit them nearly every weekend. There is something really special about a consistently great burger. I like to order a couple extra to take home for the week in case I have a spontaneous Wednesday burger craving and don’t have time to run out and get one. I like to bring a Double-Double back to my place, unwrap it, and enjoy half with just the classic spread and onions, and the other with extra pickles, chopped chilies, and a side of their perfectly crisp fries.
Carl’s Jr.

I recently visited Carl’s Jr. for the first time and was very impressed by the consistent but elevated quality of their classic burger offerings. It is fast food, but it doesn’t feel cheap. The staff at the San Clemente location makes sense when you experience their genuinely attentive and caring service. Every item on the menu is straightforward, so it’s easy to find something for whomever you’re dining with, especially kids.
The standout for me was the western bacon cheeseburger, which was juicy, flavorful, and truly a joy to eat.
