We don’t mean this as an insult to the big chains, but Pizza Novo is the sort of place you expect to find in a neighborhood strip mall. It’s a little spot tucked into the HEB building retail shops, and they serve top-notch pizza and wings. You can pick up your order at the counter, or you can have it delivered piping hot to your door. Bring home dinner for the family or grab some takeout for game night, and if anyone gets hungry, get a few affordable plates like the combo with pizza and wings.

Philly Flats

Joy Love Burgers is one of our go-to spots in Katy, because they do so many things right. There’s solid comfort food, you can get a great burger, and the space feels kind of like a simple, clean diner with straightforward seating and a focus on the plate. It’s a great spot for a hearty meal, and if you’re craving quality, you’ll probably wind up sharing one of their massive portions with a friend.
OMG! Burger

There are a few things that differentiate OMG! Burger from the other burger joints in Katy. First of all, the portions here are pretty great: Each burger is large enough to share between two people, and the food tastes homemade, as if cooked in your own kitchen. Secondly, the menu is more exciting than what you’ll find at other spots nearby—the OMG Burger comes with extra jalapenos for a delectable, juicy, and spicy kick, and the Buffalo Chicken sandwich is praised as very good.
The space gets busy with kids’ sports teams, so we wouldn’t recommend bringing a large group, but it’s a decent place to grab a meal alone or with a friend, especially when the friendly staff like cashier Katy are working and the service is consistently great.
Maria’s Pizza & Burgers

This family-owned spot has been a local favorite for over 12 years, but the atmosphere feels timeless with its tidy, welcoming vibe. If you’re with a few friends near HEB in Katy, and you’re looking for a very satisfying spot where you can hang out for any length of time and down generous portions of tasty chicken, go to Korean Bros Krazy Chicken. It feels like a big, slightly bustling casual joint, with bright lighting, simple tables, and photos of various chicken dishes on the wall. They also have kimchi fries, so you could eat spicy, flavorful potatoes for dinner.
Or just make use of the variety of options, including tea drinks and Japanese-style chicken sandwiches.
J&J wings & seafood

Like many spots in Katy, J&J Wings & Seafood has a very serious wing and seafood selection, though the focus here is more on perfectly fried catfish. Which makes sense, seeing as the space is decorated like a straightforward neighborhood joint, complete with simple tables and a counter for ordering. That said, it isn’t a gimmicky spot where you pretend to be at a fancy seafood house.
Mostly, it’s just a nice little restaurant with friendly staff and a short menu of crispy wings and fried fish, and it’s a good spot for a casual meal or a satisfying takeout order after work.
Big City Wings

Big City Wings features Golden Tee on a few screens, but it feels less like a dedicated sports bar and more like a casual gathering spot than any other place in this part of Katy. They have consistently excellent service, even when staff is short-handed, and the space tends to fill up with big groups enjoying food and conversation.
You can get must-try dishes like the Hot Buffalo Lemon Pepper chicken and a big chicken sandwich here, so keep this place in mind for wings and drinks after work or on weekends.
Birdside HTX

As we mentioned, Katy has no shortage of chicken spots—but Birdside HTX is our favorite. This place gets packed during weekend afternoons and all evening on weekdays, with the picnic tables in the food truck park often claimed hours in advance. That park and the first-come first-served ordering window both have a lively family atmosphere with kids playing nearby, but what really sets Birdside HTX apart from other chicken joints is the food.
Particularly the chicken wings, which are some of the best in the area.
Big burger world

Want to feel like you’re at a backyard barbecue in the middle of Katy? Head over to Big Burger World to sit on a wooden bench and eat burgers that come on a toasted brioche bun. You can’t miss the red-and-white checkered awning, and inside, you’ll find a full room of people nodding at each other over two-top tables covered in seasoned fries. Food options include a half-pound burger, a veggie burger, and $8 loaded fries.
Despite being a hidden gem, the prices at this burger joint are lower than most trendy spots in town, and it’s open until 10pm (midnight on weekends).
