Los Gatos is many things to many people. For tech moguls in their Teslas, or families strolling Vasona Lake, it’s Silicon Valley’s serene escape. For food lovers, it’s a gateway to authentic flavors. And now, for those craving exceptional Chinese cuisine, it’s a destination. From hand-pulled noodles that tell stories to Peking duck that defines perfection, here are the 15 best Chinese restaurants in Los Gatos.
Hua Qian Dai Grilled Fish 花千代烤魚
$$ | (408) 352-5305 | WEBSITE
Grilled fish is a thing. Most people know this nowadays so, to be honest, it’s quite long saying it over and over again. So from now on we’ll refer to these spots as GFRs because it’s easier. Hua Qian Dai is a GFR restaurant, focusing on fresh seafood dishes—but not solely so—with the menu featuring what’s caught that day. The food here is really very nice, as is the setting of a cozy, family-owned space in Los Gatos.
It’s a great and comfortable spot for a family meal or for a catch-up with a friend. Just don’t go with a huge group, because grilled fish.
Tao Tao
$$ | (408) 736-3731 | WEBSITE
Tao Tao is a spot specialising in serving iconic Chinese dishes and incredible cocktails. It bucks the small, expensive, sharing plates trend by serving large portions like the famous Chinese Chicken Salad and Tao Tao Beef (smaller options are also available). As such, it’s not the kind of place you leave feeling hungry. It’s perfect for a group gathering, but it’s equally good for a casual dinner where you can enjoy classic dishes and a memorable Mai Tai.
CEO Noodles
$ | (408) 564-4209 | WEBSITE
CEO Noodles is a casual Chinese spot in downtown Los Gatos serving dishes like beef noodles, seafood soup, and chicken wings. But the real attraction is the beef cubes—a dish with a flavour hug to the soul. Yes, some of the broth is rich enough to act as a warm blanket to the stomach. And yes, it can get a little efficient with those self-kiosks. But for generous portions and a meal for $25 a head, CEO Noodles can quickly become a weeknight dinner tradition.
Golden Palace Restaurant
$$ | (408) 257-8877 | WEBSITE
Golden Palace Restaurant is tucked away in Los Gatos. For years it was the hidden gem that every dim sum lover in the area was searching for. Dreaming of. Only it was a restaurant, not a treasure chest. That doesn’t matter though. It’s a little more discovered now but it’s just as good. This is proper Cantonese cuisine straight from Hong Kong’s kitchens. Their pan fried pork bun with vegetables is legendary. As is their steamed shrimp and pea sprout dumpling. As is their steamed live red grouper.
As is everything really. This is one to brave the parking for.
Tong Soon Garden
$$ | (408) 615-9988 | WEBSITE
The Chinese-Korean fusion spot has been operating for years and steadily built a loyal local following. There are generous dishes like the highly recommended chicken wings and Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) that blend savory, sweet, and umami flavors.
The space, located off El Camino in an unassuming building, feels very much like Tong Soon Garden’s now—the interior remains simple and functional, with tables that often host lively groups enjoying dishes like the popular chicken wings and hearty noodle bowls. While the bathrooms could use some attention and the back parking lot feels tight, the friendly multilingual staff and improved food quality under new ownership make it a solid choice.
The vast menu offers something for everyone at reasonable prices, with portion sizes that ensure you won’t leave hungry. It’s the kind of place where they’ll save your unfinished bottle for your next visit, and where reservations might score you a private room for larger parties. Despite the occasional noise when busy and the Jjamppong needing more noodles and seafood, the overall experience delivers satisfying flavors that keep people coming back.
Sizzling Pot House (鼎香砂锅馆)
$$ | (408) 603-0498 | WEBSITE
Any restaurant serving dishes that whisper ‘this is authentic Chinese comfort food’ is already winning us over. Especially when you take a bite and it’s bursting with flavor as well. Sizzling Pot House is a no-fuss, hearty kind of Chinese spot. Clay pots brimming with tender yellow braised chicken. Gold Soup noodles with kimchi that hold nothing back. Traditional items like chicken feet and pig ears for the adventurous.
This is, essentially, what a cozy, satisfying meal was meant to be: flavorful, affordable, and incredibly reliable. What’s more is that it’s got ample free parking, so it’s perfect to swing by for a quick and easy dinner with friends.
Danacious Dumplings (Dana包子铺)
$ | (408) 410-0877 | WEBSITE
A friend is playing food association with me. “Los Gatos”, she says. I, eyes closed, smile and begin to speak softly. “Bao.” “Dumplings.” “Cold noodles.” I take a deep breath before exhaling… “Danacious Dumplings.” This place is at the heart of the Bay Area food scene today, having set up shop as a cozy take-out spot. Predominantly a dumpling shop, there’s also a small table that allows you to enjoy your food while it’s still warm, with steamed buns, dumplings, and cold noodles, obviously.
It’s ideal for quick bites, tasty options, and a visit that feels like Taipei or Shenzhen. And something very nice to take home frozen.
May Flower Restaurant
$$ | (408) 246-9550 | WEBSITE
The May Flower Restaurant is tucked away in San Jose and it feels like a genuine hidden gem from the moment you step inside. There are quick bites like potstickers and wonton soup or heartier, more flavorful plates such as Zhangcha duck and crispy tofu. Stop by for a speedy lunch or scan the barcode at your table to order dinner directly. It’s not a sprawling space, FYI.
You might spot a few regulars here during peak hours but regardless of when you visit, you’re likely to be impressed by the friendly staff and cozy, quiet vibe.
Best Taste Chinese and Sushi Restaurant
$$ | (408) 377-7666 | WEBSITE
Every neighbourhood in Los Gatos should have a no-nonsense, comforting restaurant. Those ones where if you live nearby, you probably eat there at least once a week because it’s just so damn easy and so damn good. Best Taste is one of those. It’s a cozy, family-friendly Chinese spot that’s been serving tasty as anything food for years. The Yuxiang eggplant with green bean and tofu is something you’ll end up coming in to eat alone (or order for takeaway), and the same goes for their Szechwan beef.
A no-brainer that will make you want to move into the neighbourhood.
Tsing Tao
$ | (408) 402-3180 | WEBSITE
Saturday evening at Tsing Tao. A family of six celebrating a birthday, sharing platters of Jam Pong and assorted soup noodles that steam up the windows. They call it The Feast. A couple on their third date, splitting beef and broccoli while debating whether to order more. Two friends who work at the tech campus down the street, inventing excuses to come back tomorrow for the chicken in garlic sauce. Tsing Tao is that reliable spot you wish were closer to home.
It’s a place for hungry people to gather and eat and talk and never, ever worry about leaving unsatisfied. It’s a proper restaurant for anyone and everyone at any hour. Just make sure you come with an appetite.
Hong’s Gourmet
$$ | (408) 867-2554 | WEBSITE
Hong’s Gourmet is, arguably, the jewel in Los Gatos’s Chinese dining scene. Only Hong’s Gourmet wouldn’t really wear a crown. Unless it was serving up those generous portions of authentic Mongolian beef and crispy noodle with combo, which often surpass the quality found in Chinatown. Then it would wear a crown. Come to this clean, welcoming spot if you want to have a memorable experience and eat consistently delicious food.
Despite a recent renovation and shifting to accommodate special requests like gluten-free and vegetarian options, it serves much of the same, highly regarded Chinese fare and the reasons you come here are also largely the same. Friendly staff and attentive service are still a priority.
Fu Niu Tang Noodle Talk
$$ | (408) 685-2299 | WEBSITE
A noodle joint, in the eyes of many, is a broth-slurping and MSG-guzzling dive. While this is an accurate description for some, it’s a slightly different scene at Fu Niu Tang Noodle Talk on any given evening. This Los Gatos eatery often plays host to noodle enthusiasts sipping a clean, tasty broth and picking on a lovely bit of scallion pancake, pre-entrée. Outside of peak dinner hours it makes for an extremely pleasant spot for a bowl of this and a plate full of that.
Yummy Kitchen 闻香居
$$ | (408) 440-2580 | WEBSITE
When I was growing up, Chinese food was a pretty basic but comforting treat. You’d have sweet and sour pork from the takeout spot as a kid. You’d have late-night lo mein in college as you got older. Now you have kung pao chicken for dinner because you’re pretending to be responsible. At Yummy Kitchen, Chinese food isn’t a basic meal. Mapo tofu is served sizzling hot, full of savory flavors with that perfect numbing kick.
Stir-fried string beans with pork sit beside it, flavorful without being greasy. The food is the foundation to a truly satisfying experience here—a casual spot that does far more than the expected. A local must.
Redwood Bistro (San Jose)
$ | (408) 440-2497 | WEBSITE
Redwood Bistro sounds a bit like the tree your uncle tried to climb in the ’98 family reunion, only for it to snap under his weight and send him tumbling into the potato salad while your aunt called 911. Thankfully, it’s not. It’s actually the name of this Chinese restaurant in San Jose. This is a decent little spot if you’re of the spicy-food persuasion and fancy a bite and some rice. Don’t expect to be blown away, but to be pleasantly satisfied.
Haidilao Hot Pot Cupertino
$$$ | (669) 230-3117 | WEBSITE
Cupertino is one of those places where there are lots of people about in the evening. People with families, people with friends. People who are celebrating, people who are just hungry. People who are looking for something special as well. People of whom you often wonder: what are you eating? Where are you going for hot pot? Well, it turns out Haidilao is the answer to both of those questions.
This is a very nice restaurant to spend a few hours in, have some quality beef and a bit of shrimp paste and nice things in the sukiyaki soup base. Or even some fried tofu skin and vegetables from the abundant vegetarian options. Whether you’re waiting with snacks at the sauce bar, catching up over the interactive dining, or not doing very much at all while the attentive staff like May with her big smile cater to your requests.
