This is not a guide to the best Chinese food in Pearland. This is a guide to the best places in Pearland to go when your fortune cookie predictions all came true and you feel as lucky as you look, or when you mastered chopsticks so gracefully, Confucius himself would nod in approval.
Three Craft Kitchen and Bar
No one is born craving the perfect balance of spices – it takes time to develop that palate, and Three Craft Kitchen and Bar in Pearland is like a culinary training montage of heat and flavor. This place gets packed on weekends, but during a weeknight it’s just a cozy spot with a menu full of different options to choose from – with dishes ranging from mild and creamy to ones with Sichuan peppers and chili oil that’ll clear your sinuses. This restaurant isn’t like a fast food joint, though.
When you order the Tikka Masala or Butter Chicken, it comes in generous portions so you’re enjoying it for a while, but it’s not like this is choosing a Netflix show or picking a parking spot so it’ll all be delicious.
Pearl Dynasty
$ | (281) 997-1332 | WEBSITE
There’s a massive takeout counter right by the entrance at Pearl Dynasty that’s stacked with neatly packaged containers ready for pickup, and if that doesn’t tell you what you should consider here, then you probably haven’t spent enough time in Pearland to eat.
This place is located in a strip mall off the main road and feels like the kind of spot that families and busy locals frequent on weeknights – it’s clean and the dining area is spacious enough that you could easily navigate with a stroller or wheelchair without bumping into anyone. But instead of overthinking it, grab some General Tso’s chicken, and maybe appreciate how the fried rice manages to be both good and accommodating for vegetarians.
China Cafe
$ | (281) 741-4269 | WEBSITE
China Cafe is so quintessential Pearland that we’re campaigning for it to be featured on the next city flag. It’s one of the best family-friendly places in town, with its straightforward dining room that’s still one of the most reliable spots for a Chinese buffet all these years later. And for that, you should head straight for the Hibachi grill that’s just as classic.
In addition to the pepper steak here being excellent, it goes perfectly with the food that’s about as close to simple satisfaction as you can find – orange chicken, beef and broccoli, and crab Rangoon that, no matter how many times you try, you’ll never be able to recreate at home.
Silverlake Hunan
$ | (713) 436-9988 | WEBSITE
When you’re ordering takeout and the staff hands you your food, it’s just them doing their job. But if they’re packing up your lunch special, they’re suddenly offering a bargain. And the team at Silverlake Hunan has a lot to offer since some of them seem like they’ve been here since this place opened over 15 years ago. But aside from that, the clean, small dining room here hasn’t changed much since they started, and when people used to grab affordable Chinese food before heading home.
And we’re not saying you should eat there every day – although we’re never opposed to a mid-week Pepper Steak with fried rice – just that this place has more reliable Hunan Chicken experience than you ever will.
Tang’s Kitchen
$ | (713) 340-3188 | WEBSITE
A lot of regular customers known for craving authentic Chinese food keep coming here, and as a result, Tang’s Kitchen is always buzzing with locals. And because craving authentic flavors is an official sponsor of enjoying generous portions, this is a great place to do both while getting a satisfying meal.
You can settle in at a table and try to get in a few words about the peppered steak with whoever is sitting next to you, but the best thing to do is grab a seat near the front and watch the courteous staff deliver hot, fresh dishes in this place that feels like a cozy neighborhood spot.
Wok D’Lite
$ | (281) 485-6371 | WEBSITE
People seem to think that if you don’t follow a very specific set of rules at this classic spot in Pearland, you’ll miss out on the best dishes, and one of those rules is that you’re supposed to order the garlic shrimp when you’re here.
And while no one’s going to ask you to leave for not ordering the garlic shrimp or ignoring one of the regulars’ stories about when the restaurant first opened (supposedly) over 20 years ago, it’s fun to play along at this place that looks like it was modeled after a nostalgic Chinese restaurant from another era. Plus, the garlic shrimp is really good.
The friendly staff claim that the “proper” way is with generous portions and fresh ingredients, and even though they never seem to measure anything, the food comes out perfect every time.
Pei Wei Asian Kitchen
$ | (281) 997-5525 | WEBSITE
We all have days when we wish we could quit our routines and become noodle artisans or master tea brewers, but really all we need is a simple escape. That’s when we head to Pei Wei Asian Kitchen, a clean, relaxing spot in Pearland that feels completely removed from the bustle, even if there are families enjoying meals nearby and there’s always soft background music that never overwhelms conversation.
It’s a near-perfect place to unwind, which also makes it one of our favorite spots to order fresh, tasty food. Try the Orange Chicken or Pad Thai, then decide if you want to rejoin the daily grind, maybe even with a takeout order for later.
Noodle Master
$ | (281) 372-6348 | WEBSITE
If you’re driving along 99 in Pearland, you’re pretty much out of luck in the authentic noodle department because most places around here are best suited for quick takeout or generic Americanized dishes. Then there’s Noodle Master. This Chinese restaurant is compact but welcoming, with a simple dining area that feels cozy rather than cramped, but you’ll usually find us grabbing a table near the counter.
Obviously, this place has a good-sized menu of noodle soups and stir-fries, but we’ll happily order the orange chicken and sip some boba at our table while we decide if we want to try the Black Garlic Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen that everyone keeps raving about.
888 Bistro
$ | (281) 996-5555 | WEBSITE
If you want your lunch break to feel like just another rushed meal, you could head to a chain spot and listen to people argue over who has the most boring sandwich. But if you want that midday pause to be meaningful and you’d like to mark it with something truly satisfying, drive over to 888 Bistro in Pearland. It’s the kind of relaxed Chinese restaurant that feels like it existed before fast-casual was ever a thought and where settling for greasy lo mein feels like a cop-out.
The staff here will recommend anything you like, but from the menu, we love the Hunan chicken with fried rice, a sort of elevated staple made with fresh ingredients and fantastic flavor.
Szechuan Spice Restaurant
$ | (281) 741-4008 | WEBSITE
Ordering the three flavor pepper chicken at Szechuan Spice will make anyone feel like they’ve been eating authentic Chinese food for decades, even if they just discovered Szechuan cuisine last week. That’s because this family-friendly spot in Pearland – with its clean dining room, efficient service, and strong, well-made traditional dishes – is a final stronghold against the half-thought-out fusion plates, mediocre takeout, and flavorless versions everywhere else around here.
Sitting at this table, you’re much more likely to catch the excellent wok-hei in their garlic eggplant than find out what new chain is opening up, and those flavors go much better with generous portions and fair prices than anything else.
Thanh Phuong
$ | (281) 412-7868 | WEBSITE
Eating pho doesn’t mean you have to go somewhere that feels like it’s stuck in a generic strip mall loop. And when we want to grab a bowl that tastes like it was made with actual care, we go to Thanh Phuong in the old part of Pearland. This place is small, tucked into an older strip center, and feels like a clubhouse for people who would quietly describe themselves as “in the know.” There’s a good list of Vietnamese dishes to choose from, but the best thing to order here is their house pho.
It’s $15 but comes with a robust, comforting broth and perfect portions of noodles and beef so your meal stays satisfying, but won’t leave you overly full while you’re discussing things like which egg rolls to try next or what the next Chinese option on the menu will be.
