Kim Tran Restaurant is compact, with a single dining area, a modest storefront, and seating for maybe 40 people. And even then, there’s often a line out the door. It’s charmingly authentic in the way that non-locals imagine a family-run spot (think: simple wooden tables and soft overhead lighting) and your friends will probably be raving about the fragrant jasmine tea and the legendary egg rolls—a perfect crunch of wrapper around seasoned pork and veggies—for the rest of the week.

But their service seems to have gotten an extra memo, which means that in addition to delicious dishes, you’ll also experience lightning-fast delivery, piping hot food, and portion sizes that will probably haunt your refrigerator for days. Show up hungry to try their sesame chicken—some say it’s the best they’ve ever had.

Happy Guy Chinese Cuisine
$ | (210) 520-1728 | WEBSITE
The notion that all Chinese food in America is greasy takeout is happily outdated, but you might want to prove to your crew that you can, indeed, find a genuine spot. Happy Guy Chinese Cuisine is the ideal blend of classic (generous family dinners, consistently delicious Kung Pao) and not classic (the peaceful atmosphere feels welcoming, the service comes with huge smiles).
And its reputation for years of repeat visits since 2005 means you have no reason not to stop by for at least one savory bite while exploring San Antonio’s best.

Well, that and the fact that they serve authentic Sichuan cuisine that expands your palate with excellent food quality and generous family-style servings. The cumin lamb, Chengdu dumplings, sizzling fish, beef hotpot, and green beans are some of the best in the city, but there aren’t a lot of wrong answers on the menu here.
