For this list, we skipped the dive bars and breweries (both deserving of their own spotlights) to focus solely on establishments where the craft cocktail is king—from sleek downtown destinations perfect for a night out to cozy neighborhood gems that feel like your second living room.
Proof

Equal parts barbecue joint and cocktail bar, Proof is a one-stop shop for brisket, ribs, and everything in between. The ribs here are excellent—described as the best ribs ever had with excellent sauce and great value—and we usually like to pepper in some fried green tomatoes, pork belly burnt ends, and whatever else arrives from the smoker.
But the OHC Smash Burger served with creative sides might be our favorite thing here, packed full of flavorful meat and perfect for a satisfying bite every time. On the way out, grab a great selection of drinks from the bar to get you through the rest of the evening.
Charter House Grille

If you’ve heard only one thing about Charter House Grille, it probably has something to do with those short ribs with root beer sauce. They come perfectly tender, glazed in that sweet-savory sauce that’s been simmered down to a rich glaze, and should definitely be a part of your order. But this charming Cleveland spot is more than just short ribs and root beer.
Here you’ll also find lobster ravioli bites that melt in your mouth, moist snapper with a kick of creole sauce, and peach cobbler that will make you feel like you’re back at grandma’s table. You’re not really here for a quick weeknight bite—you’re here for celebratory dinners in a beautifully decorated, cheerful space where the friendly staff makes you feel right at home.

Sure, it kind of looks like a classic neighborhood dive tucked between some unassuming storefronts, but it’s difficult not to leave Solid Gold Lounge with a newfound appreciation for some straightforward good times. This is a place that very much falls into the world of cheap drinks and live tunes—ranging from Bri’s efficient service to the amazing YNOT band. Prepare to grab a seat at the bar, enjoy the old-timey electric bowling lane, and leave spending a little less than you probably expected.
But it’s also the type of place you can stop by after work on a Tuesday, catch some fantastic live music, then take a shot with the appreciative crowd and celebrate the whole night.
KITCHEN at Re:bar

KITCHEN at Re:bar is a vibrant Downtown Cleveland spot that’s equally well-equipped for pre-game fuel-ups, after-work cocktail sessions, and relaxed evenings with friends where you can unwind over plates of lemon pepper wings and smoked honey BBQ wings. This definitely falls into the ‘artistic’ category of restaurants, but the paintings and chill vibe prevent it from feeling pretentious.
Start with one of the high-quality cocktails, order heavily off the menu’s new offerings, then anchor the meal around the signature espresso martini made with D’usse to see how many tasty adjectives you can fit in front of cocktail. Or show up during any evening for friendly, attentive service and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay.
1330 on the River

When the evening light hits just right, there are few better spots to be than at 1330 on the River with a unique cocktail in hand, overlooking the gentle flow of the Cuyahoga. Lamb isn’t even the only star on the menu here, though just about every flavorful dish you order will come with the chef’s evident passion and a touch of that secret sauce that showcases the kitchen’s biggest strength: heart. You’ll also find excellent salmon and pasta among the offerings.
Plates are meant to be savored, including the excellent lamb, prepared with care and served with thoughtful attention, complemented by the scenic riverside views. Grabbing a drink and a bite at Literary Tavern feels about as close to a neighborhood hangout as any we’ve found in Tremont. And considering it’s a popular spot set in a lively downtown area, that’s not too far off. Literary Tavern is open for most of the evening, but cocktails are what we’re here for—featuring a seasonal rotation of creative, bar-friendly drinks, like the LIT burger and Chicken Shawarma—all served with a side of standout appetizers like calamari and corn cakes.
Make sure to get here ready for some noise, because we’re definitely not the only ones showing up for a fun night out.
re:bar

Given its location near the Guardians stadium—and a clientele made up largely of happy hour seekers and game-day revelers—the drinks at re:bar are always better than they need to be. Elevated cocktails, including the popular Cherry after dark, as well as classic mojitos and margaritas all appear on the menu, served alongside flavorful food from the salsa bar.
And while there is a warm and welcoming dining room here, the lively atmosphere during live music nights is where you want to be, overlooking the bustling pre-game scene with a cocktail in hand.
Collision Bend Brewing Company Cleveland

If the name Collision Bend Brewing Company sounds familiar, that’s probably because it’s become synonymous with waterfront views and some of the best craft beer in Cleveland. That same brewery has a buzzy all-day spot in the Flats, where you can still get a flight of beer if you want, or you can order off a large menu of dishes inspired by the brewery’s extensive offerings, all set in a large dining room with a beautiful patio.
There’s also a full bar here, so you can grab a Blackberry Sunset Fruited Wheat Ale to really round out the views of the lake at sunset.
The Fairmount Cocktail Bar

The Fairmount Cocktail Bar serves creative cocktails and satisfying meals out of a comfortable, inviting, and sometimes bustling space with a beautiful, spacious patio on Fairmount Boulevard. The drink menu regularly rotates, but you can count on certain classics to always be available, like the signature house cocktails, seasonal libations, and the reliable house burger with truffle fries, served with a rich, savory aioli.
The spot is probably most known for the expertly crafted poke bowl, served with fresh, vibrant ingredients and plated in an approachable style.
Cloak & Dagger

If there are two things every Clevelander can unite behind, it’s inventive cocktails and vegan food. It’s part of what makes Cloak & Dagger such a popular destination. But even when things start to veer into less-familiar territory, it’s the balanced flavors and distinctly gothic atmosphere that make this spot worth coming back to. Well, that and the hip vibe with great music.

It’s easy to forget you’re in Cleveland when you step through the doors at Patron Saint Cafe + Bar, a cozy yet vibrant spot that feels plucked out of a charming European neighborhood. You’ll find a few casual-leaning dishes on the menu here, but it’s the more vibrant atmosphere we’re coming back for, including mini lounges, seating areas, or a gorgeous bar dusted in stylish decor.

Dishes here are perfectly portioned and delicious—order the warm goat cheese, kimchi potatoes, and steak tacos, then grab a couple of top-notch cocktails from the amazing bartenders to balance it all out.
Avo Modern Mexican

The Elotes Dip at Avo Modern Mexican is exceptional, the kind you order extra because you want leftovers to last for days. Creamy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned without being heavy, the dip is so good that the restaurant has become a favorite among diners all over Cleveland. Our favorite time to visit is after 4 pm, when the adjacent lot offers free parking, enjoying tacos like the Birra, Mahi Mahi, and Lobster alongside an unforgettable corn chowder.
You can also get consistently better drinks when the dedicated bartender is on staff, with friendly and knowledgeable service making every visit wonderful.
The Standard
