It’s cozy and welcoming, open for dinner, and full of their unbeatable baleadas and pastries. Come mealtime, generous plates like Special Fried Chicken or Beef are served with rice, beans, salad, cheese, and tortillas, or in cooler weather, there’s that must-try seafood soup with crab, mussels, shrimp, and scallops.
It’s perfect for family dinners with vegetarian options like fried plantains and, if the portions weren’t so filling, we’d probably order everything twice.

A custom sub at this Hartford location, with or without extra toppings, is as fresh as you’ll find anywhere in Connecticut. And a footlong sandwich with chips and a drink for under $12 is very good going. Inside there are fluorescent lights, laminate counters, plastic booths, and an enormous faded menu board. If it feels like it’s been assembled entirely from one corporate kit, that’s because it may have been.
That said, the functional aesthetic works and there’s plenty of room for customers quick and casual to settle in for some serious sandwich action.

Visually there is nothing particularly exciting about the stretch of Hartford where HFC Chicken & Pizza sits. It is, frankly, unremarkable. But HFC Chicken & Pizza is another story. The golden brown of generous Tikka burgers and Triple cheeseburgers dominates almost every table. Hot, juicy chicken, incredible crust, and fresh, flavorful sauces.
Nothing about this local spot is particularly polished but there’s a straightforward charm to it and the food—hearty pizzas, vegetarian options like Vegie Pizza and salad, and consistently good quality—is satisfying stuff that’s great-value.
Burger King

It feels remiss to comment on the drive-thru first and foremost at a restaurant, but the speedy service at this Burger King is a wonderful thing. Even better is when you pair it with an order of fries, which are consistently hot, crispy, and fresh. The comfortable and clean dining area is an expert in quick service, and swinging by for a meal is an excellent after-work idea. Particularly given the affordable pricing. Heads up, it’s not wheelchair accessible due to a high step at the entrance.
