Mesa’s culinary landscape isn’t defined by city limits, but by the sizzle of grills and the aroma of seasoned fries. While the Phoenix metro sprawls endlessly, Mesa holds its ground with quick-service gems that locals guard fiercely. Forget the chain monotony—here, fast food becomes destination dining, with flavors that linger long after the last bite.
Arby’s
$ | (480) 833-9314 | WEBSITE
When you’re rushing between errands and need something fast and filling, Arby’s is where you’ll go for a reliable meal. This convenient takeout spot is located just a mile away from many customers, which makes it an easy stop when you’re in a hurry. They serve their full menu all day, including the popular original roast beef sandwich and that $7 meal deal that gets you a giant roast beef or beef and cheddar sandwich, along with crinkle or curly fries and a drink.
I’m partial to the medium curly fries myself—they pair perfectly with just about anything on the menu. The staff are generally friendly and efficient, even when the line stretches out the door during peak hours, probably because everyone knows about that affordable meal deal. Recently, I noticed some employees going above and beyond, even clearing tables to keep the place tidy. Overall, it’s a great spot for a quick, satisfying bite when you don’t have time to linger.
Five Guys
$ | (480) 539-2773 | WEBSITE
We’ll forgive you for assuming this spot is just another straightforward, fast-food burger joint. It’s true they build the burgers made-to-order with components and condiments right the first time, and the golden crisp fries and raw jalapenos are standout menu items that keep customers coming back for more.
But despite appearances, Five Guys has been a local go-to for years, and it’s kind of a scene—the staff is super friendly and welcoming, going above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable, and the overall environment feels genuinely warm and inviting. Follow the menu’s lead and focus on the burgers (they taste like grilling on a barbecue and are considered the best by many).
You can also take advantage of the accessible layout with enough room for two people in wheelchairs at a single table, and grabbing a drink and fries that are always great, even if the prices run around $25 for a cheeseburger, fries, and drink.
Salad And Go
$ | (602) 675-6913 | WEBSITE
When it first arrived in Mesa, Salad And Go quickly became a go-to spot for the health-conscious crowd, and the appeal hasn’t faded since. The fresh-focused menu does little to dispel the notion that you’re at a reliable salad bar’s weekday lunch spot, and neither do the staff’s efficiently cheerful attitudes and recommendations for the frozen strawberry lemonade.
Virtually every salad features a mix of textures and flavors that feel designed to satisfy a craving, so give in and try the popular Caprese salad or a breakfast bowl. It’s consistently busy, so you’ll probably end up browsing the seasonal items like the Blueberry Basil Lemonade while waiting for your order, either at the clean, bright counter area with quick service, or the simple, functional seating near the window.
Visits are much easier to manage during off-peak hours than the lunch rush, and you can still experience most of the menu’s greatest hits alongside a delicious wrap or some Sundried Tomato Hummus with Pita Chips.
Hope’s Frybread
$$ | (480) 465-2666 | WEBSITE
Like a perfect piece of frybread, Hope’s Frybread operates on two delicious levels. During regular hours, it’s a classic local spot that serves standards like perfectly crispy frybread and good-enough coffee, with just the right blend of prompt-yet-unhurried service. On busy days, it becomes a community hub, drawing crowds of regulars and newcomers with Navajo burgers that belong on food blogs and creative concoctions that sound like traditional recipes got dropped into a blender.
But the inventive stuff actually tastes fantastic—we’re looking at you, double burger with green chilies. So if you want simple frybread with chili and quiet conversation, come for a weekday lunch. But if you are (or know) someone who needs to Instagram the finer points of smoore frybread topped with powdered sugar and honey, this is the prime-time spot for you.
JC Wings
$ | (480) 590-8185 | WEBSITE
Despite being located in a strip mall, JC Wings in Mesa has the most satisfying wings we’ve had in the last couple of years. The space has a casual layout, a simple counter area for ordering, and lots of booths and high tops that invite quick dining. The menu covers the basics of the fast-food playbook—big wings, burgers, ice cream, tostis—and the prices generally match the affordable, no-frills vibe.
We’ve had consistently friendly service here, and generally enjoyed the wings more than the other items. But on a day when you don’t want to cook at home, there’s no better place in Mesa to feel like you still had a tasty meal. JC Wings is also a nice option for a quick lunch during the week, and we think the fresh fruit bowls are a great way to play healthy dining here.
Taco Bell
$ | (480) 831-7846 | WEBSITE
Not sure what you want for a quick bite? You could cruise around Mesa, where there are plenty of options for burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and more. Or, you could just head straight to Taco Bell on this convenient corner, and explore the menu’s crunchy tacos, chalupas, and gluten-free choices. Two of our favorite things to order are the Baja Blast with its signature lime flavor, and the steak chalupa supreme which arrives hot and fresh.
You might need to wait a bit in the busy drive-through line during peak hours. But the lobby is always clean and well-organized, the prices are wallet-friendly for fast food, and they offer consistently good service—which is helpful if you want to grab something satisfying before catching a movie or running errands around town.
Tortas chiwas
$ | (623) 281-2469 | WEBSITE
If you’re craving authentic Mexican food in Mesa, Tortas Chiwas is for you. This hidden gem operates in a strip mall location, with a vibe that feels more like a neighborhood favorite than a typical fast food joint. Your primary option here is the tortas, which come on soft, lovely rolls with fresh ingredients and flavorful meats. We like the tacos more than the burritos, but the highlight for us are the salsas.
This makes sense given the restaurant’s focus—they prioritize freshness and quality—but despite knowing the food’s reputation, we were still blown away by the shredded pork and tripas tacos.
Old School Grub
$ | (480) 309-6599 | WEBSITE
This Mesa spot in a warm and inviting space is a good place to watch the owner personally share that very tasty pork chop with guests, and maybe catch the green chili burger as it heads to a nearby table. Dishes walk the fine line of fresh ingredients and generous portions that’ll leave you satisfied but not overwhelmed, though if you want to splurge in both flavor and size, there’s a breakfast buffet with amazing portion sizes that you’ll see filling plates across the dining area.
We think Old School Grub is worth the stop in Mesa, but if you’re looking for fast food in Arizona and don’t want to head all the way across town, keep an eye out for their future lunch offerings.
Zero Degrees
$ | (480) 474-4083 | WEBSITE
We can’t think of a more “fast-casual” restaurant than Zero Degrees, where you can taste your drink before you even order it. A visit to Zero Degrees involves flavor exploration, offering crowd-pleasing items like the Mangonada and Spicy Watermelon drink, served by staff who genuinely seem to enjoy what they’re serving. For the full experience, you should plan to spend around $15–$20 per person—enough to try a drink, a main, and a side.
But if you want to get a taste of the menu with a little less commitment, Zero Degrees also offers shareable vegetarian options like elote fries and garlic noodles, all with the same friendly service.
Jack In The Box
$ | (480) 610-5302 | WEBSITE
Jack In The Box has been serving Mesa since 2025, in the same convenient location that regulars have come to rely on. It occupies a classic fast-food setup, and offers quick-service meals at affordable price points. In return, you get familiar, comfort-food favorites you’ll likely enjoy for years, like their signature tacos and burgers served with friendly efficiency.
The staff (who work both day and night shifts to keep things running smoothly) have added little touches that make the experience feel welcoming despite the fast-paced setting, like consistently accurate orders and cheerful service whether you’re dining in or using the drive-through.
MOD Pizza
$ | (480) 903-2528 | WEBSITE
There’s a lot happening at MOD Pizza, a fast-casual pizza spot known for its friendly service and clean environment set in a bustling Mesa shopping plaza. There’s a bright, modern dining area with sleek counter service, a compact outdoor patio, and an open kitchen where you can watch your pizza being assembled. You can approach the menu in a few different ways: load up on unlimited toppings for a flat price, focus on their signature creations like the no name cake, or grab a quick slice to go.
Among the pleasant surprises is the consistently positive atmosphere where staff and managers treat everyone with genuine respect. MOD Pizza earns extra points from us as a spot that invites return visits, thanks to reliably fast cooking appreciated by delivery drivers, a straightforward menu that delivers satisfaction every time, and the kind of welcoming experience that makes you want to come back.
5th Street Burger & Fries
$ | (480) 350-7119 | WEBSITE
If you’ve ever cruised down Mesa’s main drag, stopped for a quick bite after work, or needed something satisfying to soak up a late-night craving, you’ve probably hit up 5th Street Burger & Fries. This quick-serve spot has been a local go-to for years, and word on the street is they haven’t let a single burger leave the grill without that signature smash-style char. The smash burgers are the move here.
Pick one of the classics to prove you know your stuff, like the 5th Street burger with all the fixings, or the Hawaiian sliders for a sweet-and-savory twist. There’s usually a steady stream of hungry folks grabbing orders to-go, and a handful of efficient staff behind the counter keeping things moving fast.
Philly Steak & Wings
$ | (480) 962-1144 | WEBSITE
Philly Steak & Wings sounds like it could be a classic East Coast sandwich shop, but it’s actually a reliable fast-food haven in a Mesa strip mall. There’s a clean dining area attached to the original Philly Steak counter, and both spaces serve consistently tasty cheese steaks, wings, and other comfort food staples. The straightforward and friendly restaurant has a remodeled-meets-retro aesthetic, and the breakfast menu may include items served with homemade salsa or papaya slaw.
Not every order is perfect, but this spot has an undeniable appeal, enhanced by details like lotus flower cookies and plentiful parking. There’s also a wide variety of items on the regular menu, and the recent addition of breakfast throughout the day is worth checking out.
Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers
$$ | (480) 933-9521 | WEBSITE
Raising Cane’s is a straightforward spot that’s consistently buzzing with folks grabbing meals to go or settling in at the simple tables. They focus on chicken fingers, fries, and that classic Texas toast, plus a solid chicken sandwich that’s really just three tenders on a bun. Definitely go for the 3 Finger meal—we’re fans of the perfectly crisp tenders and those crinkle-cut fries, all served up fast and friendly.
The iced tea is the only thing that sometimes feels a bit standard, but any place where we can put together a reasonably priced feast of golden tenders, buttery toast, and that tangy Cane’s sauce is a place that earns its keep in our regular lineup.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers
$ | (480) 654-8009 | WEBSITE
Remember those summer days when you craved a classic burger and shake? That nostalgic craving finds its home at Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, a spotless and welcoming establishment that sits among the best fast food options in Mesa. The steakburgers and frozen custard have earned them plenty of regulars, but feel free to grab a meal with the family, a quick lunch, or whatever looks good—everything we’ve tried here has made us leave with a smile.
The whole operation is run with care by manager Callie on the main floor, where that friendly service creates a genuinely pleasant atmosphere. Just be prepared: Even though the parking lot looks spacious, those prime spots fill up fast when the dinner rush hits.
Chick-fil-A
$ | (480) 641-1903 | WEBSITE
Finding a truly great fast food experience often comes with compromises, like settling for mediocre service or accepting lukewarm food. At Chick-fil-A in Mesa, you won’t have to make those sacrifices. But you will have to navigate the occasional slowdown in the mobile thru lane—though it’s working much better now than before. The reward: attentive and proactive staff who deliver hot food quickly with genuine respect and kindness, plus the best spicy chicken sandwich around.
The restaurant is consistently clean and kid-friendly, with helpful employees always smiling and a manager who checks to ensure everything’s okay. If you want more breakfast options, their sliders are available until 10 a.m. and come with a rewards program that feels like a nice bonus. Just be prepared—some customers still feel shorted on those perfectly crisp waffle fries.
Fryd Bird
$ | (602) 296-7405 | WEBSITE
This compact, counter-service spot has been serving up exceptional chicken tenders since it opened. The kitchen team prepares everything fresh daily, focusing on big, juicy tenders with light breading and standout waffle fries that rival larger portions elsewhere. The full Fryd Bird experience involves navigating the small space, waiting about 15 minutes for your order, and remembering to try their signature sauces.
There’s limited seating inside, and we can’t think of a better way to enjoy a quick meal than by stopping in, grabbing a tender combo with those perfect fries, and savoring every bite while you appreciate the friendly service from staff like Abdulla.
Burger King
$ | (480) 466-7591 | WEBSITE
The best thing on the menu at Burger King, a fast food spot in Mesa, is the Whopper breakfast: the chain’s signature morning offering, which features a satisfying sandwich with eggs, cheese, and savory sausage. But the experience here rewards consistency, and the staff are happy to keep your visit quick and friendly. So on that note, we think you can trust the classics, and save time for some of the convenient extras, like their free sauces, a nice touch for dipping your fries.
The space has a welcoming and kid-friendly vibe despite straightforward décor, which is just the right backdrop to enjoy a reliable meal with plenty of parking.
Carl’s Jr.
$ | (480) 834-3381 | WEBSITE
Carl’s Jr. doesn’t exactly blend in with its Mesa fast-food neighbors. The restaurant sits conveniently off the main road with a spacious parking lot, in a clean and quiet building that feels more relaxed than typical chain spots. The atmosphere inside is consistently pleasant, and the restaurant offers all-day dining options to service the equally well satisfied regulars. We like Carl’s Jr.
best for a quick lunch, and prefer to focus on the classic burgers and fries, especially the standout charbroiled options that are always hot and fresh. There’s also a smooth drive-thru where you can order the full menu, and there’s usually a friendly buzz from the staff who always seem to be a few smiles into a professional shift.
