Adulthood in Katy is a delicate dance of sushi cravings and social obligations. You’ve got the friend who swears by omakase, the coworker who only eats teriyaki, and that distant cousin visiting who insists on ‘authentic.’ Good luck pleasing everyone—unless you know where to go. Here are the spots that make merging friend groups over miso soup actually enjoyable.
Sushi 9
$$ | (281) 391-8898 | WEBSITE
Sushi 9 needs little introduction, but just in case you’re new to Katy or have an allergy to good deals, we’ll break it down for you – this Japanese spot is known for its all-you-can-eat sushi and sake bombs. What it lacks in spacious restrooms (seriously, they’re tiny), it makes up for in amazing salmon that melts like butter, a family-friendly atmosphere every day of the week, and a well-stocked buffet that can accommodate a group of any size with tables that are admittedly close together.
Sushi Hana
$ | (281) 395-8899 | WEBSITE
This unassuming Japanese spot in Katy doesn’t get the hype it deserves, but if you’re craving a family meal that’s both satisfying and straightforward, head straight to Sushi Hana. The thing to order here is the signature TONY roll, a classic sushi situation where every bite delivers that perfect balance of flavor and texture. It’s reliable, delicious, and one of our favorite rolls in the area, plus, it keeps everybody at your table happy regardless of whether they’re five or fifty.
Make sure some fresh salmon sashimi and a plate of the Shaggy dog roll hit the table as well.
Little Sakana
$$ | (346) 387-9615 | WEBSITE
Long before Katy became a destination for sushi enthusiasts, there was Little Sakana. Located in a sleek, modern space in Katy, Little Sakana is in no way a small operation. It’s a comprehensive Japanese dining experience complete with an all-you-can-eat sushi bar, nigiri specialists, and a clean, inviting atmosphere. If you’re stuck trying to figure out where to go with your six adventurous friends who love raw tuna and the four more cautious friends who need gluten-free options, head here.
Everyone can pretty much get what they want, and you won’t be stuck watching someone awkwardly navigate the limited vegetarian selections while you’re enjoying that incredible Umami Oil Salmon.
Fuji Sushi – FM 1463
$ | (346) 307-7426 | WEBSITE
Katy is definitely not lacking in reliable sushi spots that are ideal for your family dinners, but our favorite is Fuji Sushi. The unassuming spot on FM 1463 is easy to find (you’ll spot the ample parking right out front), and once you enter, you’ll step into a welcoming, well-lit space that stays open for lunch and dinner every single day. Wait times can get a bit longer at peak hours, but just know that you’re waiting on some of the freshest sushi in the neighborhood.
The Tiger Roll, Pink Lady, and Dynamite Roll are all must-orders.
Twenty Five Teishoku House
$$ | (346) 251-5886 | WEBSITE
If a beautifully curated drink menu and attentive service aren’t enough to make your special occasion feel truly memorable, then this dinner was never going to hit the mark.
Twenty Five Teishoku House actually offers a unique take on Japanese cuisine in Katy, but it’s their warm, inviting interior with its calming vibe and great attention to detail that has everything you need for a celebration – high-quality sashimi on the Teishoku tray, fresh and balanced flavors in the octopus and blue fin tuna tacos, and a complimentary dessert from the chef that bridges any gap between expectation and reality.
Tsukiji Fusion Sushi – Katy
$ | (281) 769-9038 | WEBSITE
No one is going to tell you that Tsukiji Fusion Sushi has the best Japanese food in town, but that doesn’t matter. What does matter at this family-friendly Katy institution is the spacious dining room that’s always one round of sake away from a quiet celebration, the generous sashimi combos happening at lunch, and the fact that your waiter Calvin has already remembered your favorite roll.
Sushi Hara
$ | (832) 234-4635 | WEBSITE
The craving for sushi hits hard, but the thought of a formal restaurant with all its fuss feels overwhelming. Good news – there’s always Sushi Hara. The Japanese spot in the Katy food court is a local go-to, and serves some of our favorite shrimp tempura rolls in town. The compact dining area feels more like a cozy nook than a typical food court stall, and is filled with clean tables that guarantee you’ll get your meal quickly and without hassle.
Dizihana
Tucked away in a Katy food truck lot, Dizihana has a compact setup that can handle a steady lunch rush with surprising efficiency. But the real reason you need to seek this place out is because this hidden gem serves some of the best Japanese food in Katy, hands down.
Whether it’s the perfectly seasoned chicken and shrimp bowl, the tender New York steak paired with jumbo shrimp, or any of their freshly made dishes using quality ingredients, this is food that leaves you satisfied, because even when you’re just grabbing a quick bite, you’ll find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve finished eating.
Mafia sushi
$$ | (281) 676-4464 | WEBSITE
The thought of ordering sushi from a place called Mafia Sushi might raise an eyebrow, but once the first piece of seared tuna sushi hits your palate (it’s $18 for the chef’s selection tasting) and the sake begins to pour (there’s a $15 all-you-can-drink house sake option), any hesitation melts away at Mafia Sushi.
The acclaimed Japanese restaurant in Katy has remarkable food (the spicy tuna roll is unforgettable) and a reliably welcoming atmosphere that will make every member of your family feel like they’re part of the celebration.
Tobiuo
$$ | (281) 394-7156 | WEBSITE
The Katy location of this Japanese gem isn’t the most expansive dining room in town, but as long as your party stays under eight or so guests, you’ll still find ample room to settle in and savor a meal. That said, with sushi this fresh, it’s worth cozying up at a table for an evening.
Whether it’s the Oki Sake, the Shiso Crunchy rolls, or a hot stone waygu beef for sharing, this is some of our favorite Japanese food in Katy, and if your dining companions don’t agree, it might be time to reconsider your crew.
