Lynnwood hums with suburban energy, a fascinating blend of strip-mall practicality and culinary ambition: you’ll find teriyaki joints beside sushi counters, ramen shops in unassuming plazas, and a quiet dedication to craft in the most unexpected corners. The Japanese dining scene here reflects this same compelling mix of the accessible and the authentic.
Big Teriyaki
$ | (425) 678-0072 | WEBSITE
Even though there are bright fluorescent lights overhead, the atmosphere is anything but sterile at Big Teriyaki. A weekday lunch here has the vibe of your favorite neighborhood spot where the regulars chat with the cashier about their kids’ soccer games. Yes, the staff wears simple black aprons, but you can tell they’ve been working here for years, particularly because of how friendly and efficient they are.
The portions are generous and satisfying, a quality much appreciated when digging into their super crispy chicken katsu—golden-brown cutlets served with tangy katsu sauce, fluffy rice, and a fresh side salad. For something different, try their hot and perfect short ribs that come out sizzling and tender.
Muto Sushi Machine Services
$$ | (425) 212-7694 | WEBSITE
Muto Izakaya has been serving authentic Japanese comfort food throughout its years as a neighborhood favorite. Come here for simple and excellent Japanese dishes, including fantastic fried chicken curry with crispy and juicy chicken and a sublime mixed tempura that’s super crispy and tasty. Just make sure to visit after a spa day at Olympus, just around the corner—Muto Izakaya offers a warm atmosphere and great service that makes it a cozy spot for a satisfying meal.
Teriyaki Grill
$ | (425) 742-9856 | WEBSITE
Teriyaki Grill is a quintessential Lynnwood teriyaki spot, with simple laminate floors and paper napkins, but it feels more welcoming than many other places in the area. You might find a longtime local or a busy family dining nearby, but that’s because this is their neighborhood favorite. The menu features excellent teriyaki dishes and daily specials, all listed in friendly print on a board that stays consistent.
A standout is their chicken teriyaki special with gyoza and mac salad, perfectly crispy and flavorful with generous portions. Teriyaki Grill does steady lunch and dinner service and strikes the perfect balance between a satisfying meal and a casual weeknight stop—ideal for that craving you’ve been saving to satisfy.
Ashiya
$ | (425) 742-0670 | WEBSITE
Ashiya is modern Japanese comfort at its finest. It captures both the clean simplicity of traditional izakayas and the warm, inviting vibe of a neighborhood gem. The staff are as friendly as the atmosphere, and the food is just as reliable. The Curry Cream Udon with Chicken Katsu here is unmatched—crispy katsu over rich, creamy curry and thick udon noodles that arrive steaming hot.
While the name might suggest ordering the Chicken Yakisoba, we’d go for the hearty Kastu Curry Udon or the comforting Creamy Chicken Udon when you need something substantial. The crowd is mostly regulars: solo diners, small groups of friends, and couples sharing generous portions. And since it’s tucked away in Lynnwood, it’s the perfect spot for a reliable meal whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout.
WOW TERIYAKI
$ | (425) 741-9733 | WEBSITE
You may finish your meal at WOW Teriyaki and walk out wondering “How did they pack so much flavor into one box?” Or more importantly, “When can I come back?” You’ll be thinking about this Lynnwood spot for a long time, not only because their generous portions stretch across multiple days, but because they serve comfort food so satisfying, you simply won’t want to stop eating.
It’s one of the best places to try some of Japan’s greatest hits, like savory beef teriyaki with extra meat, hearty chicken bento boxes, and delicious sides including California rolls, gyoza, and fluffy rice. On any visit, though, their combination plates with that perfect teriyaki glaze are a must-try. And save room for whatever special they’re offering, especially if it’s the perfectly seasoned and crispy gyoza.
Misora Teriyaki Sushi and Wok
$ | (425) 678-1819 | WEBSITE
Some people swear by California rolls, or think spicy tuna is the height of Japanese-American fusion. But for us, Misora Teriyaki Sushi and Wok proves it’s all about the wok-tossed classics, or what’s known as comfort food, the familiar dishes that are “I can’t believe something this simple tastes this good” kind of satisfying. Their Mongolian beef is the perfect example—succulent strips of meat seared with soy and ginger, served in a generous portion alongside a mound of perfectly steamed rice.
Or their teriyaki chicken, which might just make you suddenly crave that sweet-savory glaze on everything. We love coming alone to sit at a booth and enjoy the great music, or with family to share a bento box that’s always a great value. Just know Misora is in a strip mall in Lynnwood—about a 15-minute drive from downtown—but it’s worth the trip for the crisp, clean environment and friendly, efficient service.
Teriyaki Time Lynnwood
$ | (425) 778-9019 | WEBSITE
Teriyaki Time Lynnwood has a pork bento box that’s one of the best deals in Lynnwood. After you’re seated in their cozy dining area with ample plants and quirky decor, you’ll get a complimentary cup of hot barley tea served by their hospitable server with good energy. That alone could warm you up, but you’ll also get to enjoy their menu, like the highly praised teriyaki chicken with excellent char and great flavor and, without exception, the spicy and flavorful Chicken Phad Thai.
This dish packs a punch: hot, fresh, and cooked to perfection, the teriyaki chicken is bathed in savory sauce, then paired with fried rice that tastes straight from the kitchen. With relaxing jazz piano music and ample seating for the whole family, it’s a place where customers discover new menu items monthly and are always satisfied.
Wild Wasabi
$$ | (425) 776-8068 | WEBSITE
Wild Wasabi sets the standard for Japanese dining in Lynnwood. It strikes that perfect balance of clean, pleasant atmosphere with prompt, friendly service. Our go-to is the three brothers roll, loaded with fresh fish, creamy avocado, and a hint of spicy mayo. Their fabulous salmon bento, with perfectly cooked rice, crisp tempura, and savory miso soup, also hits the spot.
Wild Wasabi also happens to serve some of the best (and most interesting) sushi of any family-friendly restaurant in the area, including the avocado bomb with its crispy exterior and creamy center. They have one location in an almost abandoned strip mall, but we like it for the ample parking and hidden gem feel.
Highway Teriyaki
$ | (425) 776-5187 | WEBSITE
Highway Teriyaki is located in Lynnwood, where teriyaki culture was practically perfected—hence the abundance of fusion dishes on the menu. Start with one of the great daily specials like the Chicken Teriyaki Burrito and pair it with the crispy Pork Katsu made from quality pork cutlets. They also serve a fantastically-fresh Chicken, Beef & Shrimp Combo Plus with perfectly cooked proteins over rice (yes, fusion spots do serve combos).
Opt for an extra side of their signature teriyaki sauce for dipping, and wash it down with a sweet iced green tea from their beverage station. It’s best for a quick, mid-week lunch or a casual dinner in their cozy dining room lined with toy cars.

Q Sushi Bar & Kitchen
$$ | (425) 368-8889 | WEBSITE
Q Sushi Bar & Kitchen is a humble neighborhood spot where simple wooden tables, a bustling sushi counter, and the warm hum of families make you forget you’re in a strip mall where even the parking lots have waiting lines. The food delivers consistently high-quality Japanese staples from across the menu, like the Okinawa sushi set: fresh, expertly sliced nigiri arranged with care.
The fish shines with perfect rice and subtle seasoning, and cooked dishes highlight great flavor and value, like General Tao’s Chicken with its crispy exterior. We’ve had an incredible affordable lunch here at the counter watching the chef work, and can’t wait to come back for the recommended Chirashi bowl. On your way out, don’t miss the friendly chat with the owner who remembers regulars by name.
Sushi Hana Lynnwood
$$ | (425) 582-0322 | WEBSITE
Sushi Hana Lynnwood serves arguably the most entertaining sushi experience in all of Lynnwood, but that’s just one of the reasons you should grab a meal here. On paper, it seems like it might be gimmicky: the modernized belt concept restaurant is located in a busy suburban strip. But the atmosphere is more polished, like attending a tech demo hosted by your efficient cousin who loves robots (and isn’t shy about it).
You’ll find rolls like the Spider Hand Roll, a crispy soft-shell crab creation, alongside the classic California Hand Roll. There are equally solid options, like fresh sashimi selections and poke salad bowls, delivered by a monorail system that may or may not have just whizzed past your table. Come with the whole family so you can sample as much from the belt as possible.
Toshi’s Teriyaki
$ | (425) 771-5320 | WEBSITE
Toshi’s Teriyaki is the premier teriyaki destination in Edmonds, having perfected their craft over decades. This is no accident: their Teriyaki Spicy Garlic Chicken—juicy, tender, and cooked to order—is the best in the region. Their second standout is the beef steak, grilled to perfection with backyard authenticity.
Squeeze into the modest storefront (which feels more like a neighborhood kitchen than a restaurant), place your order with the proud proprietor who cooks everything fresh behind the counter, and don’t be surprised if your meal comes with simple presentation or no-frills plating—that’s all part of the appeal.
Edo Sushi &Sake
$$ | (425) 361-1055 | WEBSITE
Edo Sushi & Sake is the spot to come to for exceptional sushi. Clean wooden tables are set with minimalist place settings, and Japanese prints decorate the warm, earth-toned walls. Their menu offers classics like the Mango Kiwi, Seahawks, and crispy firecracker rolls, along with must-try specialties like the divine omakase and the adventurous Monkey Brain. Don’t miss their fresh, expertly prepared fish—some of the best in the city.
The sake selection may be concise, but it’s packed with excellent choices from respected producers. The friendly, top-notch service and casual atmosphere make it a destination worth the trip for anyone seeking wonderful sushi.
Muto Izakaya
$$ | (206) 532-8853 | WEBSITE
Muto Izakaya is the sit-down restaurant that offers a more substantial Japanese dining experience, as their tables are set with sleek black placemats and traditional woodblock prints decorate the walls.
The menu skips simple sushi rolls entirely, focusing instead on Japanese classics like ultra-satisfying katsu curry topped with expertly crispy pork cutlets, as well as tonkotsu ramen, which features rich broth simmered slowly with pork bones, garlic, ginger, and “depth” (yes, this is a real quality, according to their generous portions). And it’s so good, we can’t help but believe them.
They also have an excellent sake selection, featuring some great junmai and daiginjo varieties from all over Japan.
