Forget about delicate tasting menus and precious plating. These are the Korean restaurants where you can dive into a steaming bowl of kimchi jjigae on a rainy Wednesday, or bring the whole family for a feast of banchan and barbecue without emptying your wallet.
Koba Grill
$ | (503) 626-2846 | WEBSITE
If we rated restaurants purely on how good they are at making Korean food, Koba Grill would get a near-perfect score. The dishes at this Vancouver spot, which has one of the cleanest atmospheres in the area, are all high-quality, and they’re consistently impressive. Try the flavorful pork belly or the rice plate with generous portions. We also like the jjajangmyun and the fact that their menu includes several gluten-free options that they happily accommodate.
Janken
$$$$ | (503) 841-6406 | WEBSITE
Janken serves creative, quality Korean fusion food, and it’s the perfect addition to the Portland dining scene. Their toro tuna with miso black cod and seafood crudo tastes like your everyday sushi if it went through an episode of Culinary Makeover on Food Network. This place has a warm, cozy interior filled with intimate tables under soft lighting, and when you’re celebrating a special occasion, there’s no other place we’d rather enjoy wagyu gyoza and ube crème brûlée inside.
Number 1 Bento
$ | (971) 708-8269 | WEBSITE
Number 1 Bento is a Downtown Portland spot where you can grab a quick lunch during the day at their stand in a small park surrounded by other food vendors. Or, swing by later at night when the outdoor seating fills up with friends sharing huge bento boxes under the well-lit canopy. This place serves perfected staples like the spicy BBQ pork bento and the massive chicken katsu with glass noodles—but pay special attention to the late-night hours during the Portland Light Festival.
The service is excellent, with friendly, attentive staff who get your meal to you in about eight minutes, making it a great spot for a date or a meal with companions. Just be sure to arrive before 11 if you’re in a hurry to avoid the lunch crowd. Overall, the food is amazing, flavorful, and the owner is kind, cementing its status as a favorite.
Jeju Restaurant
$$$ | (503) 502-2038 | WEBSITE
Jeju Restaurant is a standout Korean spot that specializes in fresh, flavorful dishes in a warm, light-filled setting. Come here when you want satisfying comfort food that you can enjoy in a cozy dining room while still feeling like you’re treating yourself. The atmosphere is comfortable and built around the chef’s tasting menu that serves as the basis for a lot of their experience. Start with the crudo, then get the can’t-miss ssam. If you’re doing takeout, order the chicken wings.
They’re crispy, saucy, and very flavorful in all the right ways.
So Kong Dong Tofu & BBQ
$$ | (503) 808-9990 | WEBSITE
This Korean spot in the Fubonn supermarket mall does a $28 all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ dinner, which includes unlimited banchan like hot dog and potato sides, seafood pancake, and galbi grilled to perfection, with tender beef bulgogi, and big, flavorful ox bone soup. Unless you’re a regular at this strip mall, finding this inviting, brightly signed restaurant will be a trek, but we can’t really think of a better way to spend a weeknight.
But you could come here with a group any day of the week for samgyetang, a few bowls of something hot and Korean, and a couple of tofu stews—we like the seafood soon tofu, with spicy broth and fresh seafood.
Kkoki Korean BBQ
$$ | (503) 327-8875 | WEBSITE
We’ve never seen servers as enthusiastic about their all-you-can-eat packages as the team at Kkoki Korean BBQ in Vancouver. They could just be doing their jobs well, but the table beside you will also lean over to agree that yes, the bulgogi is absolutely worth the wait. So go for the bulgogi—or any of the other meat options, honestly—and load up on sides for everyone to share.
This spot has that bustling, communal-table energy, and the staff are genuinely helpful from your arrival to your satisfied departure after the meal.
Kkoki Korean BBQ Beaverton
$$ | (503) 352-3737 | WEBSITE
One day, we’ll get a more casual version of a high-end Korean BBQ spot where you can enjoy a few banchan and book a table without having to wait like you’re in line for a concert. Until that happens, the closest we have is Kkoki Korean BBQ Beaverton. This popular restaurant offers a vibrant menu that’s full of highlights like A+ quality meat and always-perfect banchan.
Most dishes are shareable, and there are always classics like LA kalbi and pork bulgogi on the menu, which you should always order. The best atmosphere is on weekends with modern Korean music, but there’s also a casual setting where you can sit at clean grills and enjoy accommodating, friendly service.
FOMO Chicken
$ | (503) 308-0258 | WEBSITE
FOMO Chicken in the food truck lot works well for many day-to-day situations: a quick lunch, a casual dinner, a group hangout, or even a solo craving. And the food—Korean fried chicken, Southern chicken, wings, fried pickles—is all satisfying. The two essential dishes here are the Korean fried chicken, which you should get sweet and spicy, and the fried pickles.
(You’ll want a second order, so just get two from the jump.) There’s often a line, but you can usually get your food without too long of a wait, and be sure to bring cash because some trucks don’t take cards.
KINGKONG Korean BBQ
$$ | (360) 258-1272 | WEBSITE
At this popular Vancouver spot, they serve one style of barbecue every day. You choose between house special meats like succulent brisket and miso pork belly, and add sides like tasty rice, fresh salad, and flavorful sauces. The menu is a hit with groups, as is the relatively cozy dining room—but the bustling atmosphere and accommodating staff aren’t too casual for strictly special occasions.
We don’t know how long it’ll be before other Korean joints lose their claim to authentic cuisine, but KINGKONG Korean BBQ could easily adopt it (as long as you’re willing to overlook their 90-minute time limit).
Korean Twist at Hawthorne Asylum
$ | WEBSITE
When you step up to the counter at Korean Twist, the first things you’ll notice are the sizzling griddles and the aroma of bulgogi, so you know this place is legit. Eating here feels like discovering a hidden gem in a city that’s finally catching up to the Korean fusion wave. Stick to the favorites, like the teriyaki chicken burrito, the bulgogi beef burrito with kimchi, and any of the flavorful tacos. When you’re ordering sides, point at the potstickers. They’re some of the best we’ve had.
Ate-Oh-Ate
$ | (503) 445-6101 | WEBSITE
If you’re in the Portland area, this is already your favorite local Hawaiian spot. The restaurant is in a vibrant, casual-ready space that used to be a storefront, and the Hawaiian food is pretty great. There’s also an excellent and reasonably priced drink list, so load up on some mai tai along with the Kalibi short ribs, the Mac salad (which is technically a side, but isn’t really just a side), and some chicken katsu.
Sun Grill Teriyaki
$ | (503) 641-6135 | WEBSITE
Drop into Sun Grill Teriyaki on a busy afternoon, and the clean, open kitchen might be visible, letting the aroma of grilled meats fill the cozy, casual dining area. Begin your meal with the chicken katsu, try the marinated chicken teriyaki, and order as much spicy chicken as you can handle. The Chicken and Gyoza combo is always a solid pick, although it’s about as generous and satisfying as a full Thanksgiving plate. And that’s only a slight exaggeration.
This place is cash-friendly, they don’t do fancy reservations, and the limited counter seating is a perfect spot for a quick solo lunch.
Koi Fusion Mississippi
$ | (971) 888-4127 | WEBSITE
Every time we talk about Korean fusion in Vancouver, someone inevitably says, “Oh, you have to try Koi Fusion!” Tucked away in a convenient spot with easy ordering and pickup, this place has a straightforward setup that works perfectly for grab-and-go meals. The menu is focused and creative: Korean-Mexican fusion dishes that surprise and satisfy.
Start with the kimchi quesadilla with tofu, share the bulgogi burrito packed with marinated beef and crunchy veggies, then finish with the Sodduk-Sodduk for those chewy rice cakes and flavorful sauces. You’ll want to say something obvious like: “This is soul-nourishing comfort food.” Just enjoy it quietly.
Toji Korean Grill House
$$ | (503) 232-8998 | WEBSITE
If you’re overwhelmed by the abundance of Korean BBQ options in Vancouver because you can’t pick just one, let me simplify things for you. Make your way to Toji Korean Grill House. Start with the ribeye and pork belly, then add the brisket and chicken thigh for good measure. Don’t skip the ssamjang sauce for dipping—it’s essential. Try to snag a booth near the back, where the warm lighting and wooden accents create that welcoming, homey atmosphere they’re known for.
It’s a bit rustic, but genuinely cozy all the same.
Twozone Chicken PNW
$ | (503) 206-8845 | WEBSITE
Say you’re meeting up with a friend in Vancouver, and you’re looking for a casual, cozy spot where you can eat some Korean comfort food and make some light conversation. Go to Twozone Chicken PNW. They serve all their dishes—like the Korean Corndog with gooey cheese and the Hot and Spicy Boneless Wings—fresh, and you can get huge portions that feel like great value.
There’s also a TV playing music where you can put your head down and spend some quality time with Tteokbokki, if that’s the sort of meal you need.
Ko Sisters Seoul Food
$ | (503) 267-3918 | WEBSITE
There’s no traditional restaurant seating at this food truck setup in a Vancouver food court, but that doesn’t mean the Ko Sisters don’t serve some of the best Korean food in the whole area. The move here is to grab your meal from the truck and settle into the indoor eating area: Duo bowls, Seattle egg rolls, Korean corn dogs, bulgogi, and tteokbokki are some of our favorites.
Pull up a stool at the bar, spread out your generous portions on the counter, and dig into your Ko Sisters bounty for a lively, satisfying meal in the bustling shared space.
Chungdam Korean Fusion
$ | (503) 206-4515 | WEBSITE
A popular Vancouver spot, this bustling little restaurant has a lively atmosphere and a focused menu, which includes savory beef dishes, seafood favorites and heartier options, like hot pot served in generous portions. The seasonal naengmyon is a refreshingly tangy cold noodle soup with extra vinegar and mustard, but they have more traditional options as well. It’s an easy choice in the neighborhood for a cozy dinner with friends, or a satisfying solo meal.
Always Spring Restaurant
$ | (503) 641-3670 | WEBSITE
Always Spring Restaurant is a cozy little Korean spot that’s perfect for a casual dinner in Vancouver. You’ll always find a steady crowd in the dining area that feels like a family kitchen tucked inside a grocery store. The food is more authentic than what you’ll find at most local places, and the menu is varied enough that pretty much anyone can find something they enjoy. Start with the Haemul Pajeon and the banchan assortment, then, go for whatever main dish sounds good to you.
Mokdong Gimbap
$ | (503) 477-6317 | WEBSITE
Mokdong Gimbap is a destination-worthy restaurant in Vancouver, WA. The combination of cozy atmosphere and beautiful umbrella ceiling in the back area makes you feel like you’re eating at someone’s favorite neighborhood spot. Expect to enjoy generous portions while you devour the entire order of fried mackerel appetizer that should be the opener to your meal.
Add some Korean classics like outstanding bibimbap and bulgogi, and save room for the perfectly seasoned seafood soon-tofu with its nice kick at medium spice. The owner is super friendly, and the authentic side dishes taste homemade, adding to the overall experience of this hidden gem worth visiting for a delicious and relaxing meal.
