If we’ve got time to spare and are in need of a lunch that’s 100% going to put us in a good mood for the rest of the day, we’re going to Taza. Yes, there will be a wait at the downtown Cleveland spot (unless you come 10 or 15 minutes before they open). But that’s part of Taza’s consistency too—the waiting. Anyway, it’s well worth it for some of Cleveland’s best casual Lebanese.
This place nails straightforward, minimal dishes like the falafel pita wrap as well as busier plates with a small novela of ingredients.
Best Gyros

Best Gyros is nestled in Cleveland, which feels fitting since our favorite dishes at this classic Mediterranean spot come with generous dollops of that delicious cucumber sauce. There are plenty of solid traditional options here, like the falafel and hummus. However, the gyro is what you want on nights when you just need something straightforward and satisfying. The warm pita is stuffed with perfectly cooked meat, fresh vegetables, tzatziki, and won’t set you back more than $12.
The fries are large and crispy, making the whole meal feel like a steal, especially with the fair prices. It’s the kind of place where the friendly staff, especially Marchita, makes you feel right at home, and the late hours are a bonus when you’re craving something tasty after dark. For a quick bite or a casual group hang, it’s a spot that really delivers.
Aladdin’s Eatery Middleburg Heights

Just like it is hard to imagine a time when Middleburg Heights wasn’t actually a somewhat vibrant dining destination, it’s hard to remember a time when Aladdin’s Eatery wasn’t one of the best Mediterranean spots in Cleveland. It’s been that way since they opened, and eating dinner here is still one of the best ideas a Clevelander can have.
The menu isn’t set in stone, but it provides enough consistency that you can pretty much have your order in your head before you arrive (for us, that’s the Flavor Savor Special, the Mediterranean Lamb Plate, and all the hummus with veggies that can fit on the table).
Steves Gyros

Yes, it’s cash only. But boy is it worth it. Steves Gyros in Cleveland is a renowned establishment that’s as popular as ever—and with good reason. It reliably hits the mark with authentic Greek food and tangy tzatziki sauce every damn time. We love the jumbo gyro with tender meat and that signature sauce. It’s generous, flavorful, and the meat-to-sauce-to-bread ratio was probably determined with a graphing calculator.
This place is perfect for a quick lunch or a fulfilling dinner with picky friends. There’s something for everyone: the jumbo gyro you can split, the straightforward service, or just the satisfaction of a meal that tastes exactly how it should.
Luxe Kitchen & Lounge

If you’d asked us ten years ago, five years ago, and right this very moment what the best Mediterranean restaurant in Cleveland is our answer would be the same: Luxe Kitchen & Lounge. And even though they do switch up the menu a lot, there are enough regulars—the chorizo benedict, short rib omelette, and smash burger—to at least partially know your order before you sit down. Although you should always listen closely to the specials, because they are wonderful.
More things you can expect here: excellent cocktails, a killer patio area, and dishes like the wings and summer chicken you should never not order.
Il Venetian

You know that elegant hotel restaurant that makes you forget you’re in a hotel? That’s Il Venetian in human form. This Mediterranean spot in Cleveland is the kind of place that offers the strength that only comes from exceptional service and attention to detail. It’ll surprise you with its steak the way that perfect restaurant will with an anniversary gesture. It’s cooked to perfection, tender, juicy, and the wine pairing adds a richness that makes you savor every bite.
But Il Venetian isn’t some kind of generic hotel dining—it’s refined. Service here is warm, professional, and goes above and beyond. Every dish is presented with care, and the atmosphere makes each experience feel special. Despite being in a hotel, Il Venetian can go toe-to-toe with some of the best Mediterranean restaurants in town and still win.
Assad’s Mediterranean Cuisine

Assad’s Mediterranean Cuisine is where we go when we need a real meal, and we mean that as the highest praise. This place is authentic enough to show someone you know good food, but welcoming enough to not make you feel out of place if you’re new to Middle Eastern flavors. The food is why you’re coming here though, and you can always expect to find some of Cleveland’s best falafel on the menu, as well as hummus and baba ganoush and freshly baked pita bread.
Whether you’re trying to steer visiting friends toward genuine Palestinian cuisine or need a reliable spot for that vegan friend you’re actually starting to like, Assad’s is the move.
Kan Zaman

You have a better chance of finding a quiet weekend night in Cleveland than you do of having a dull evening at Kan Zaman. Things just don’t go wrong at this Mediterranean hotspot. We always walk in the door with confidence knowing the shisha will be top-notch, there will undoubtedly be generous portions of halal food, and the fries will be a popular option even when the falafel wrap isn’t.
The only thing you need to do to guarantee success here is grab a comfortable seat with pillows, because this place gets lively.
CASSA Kitchen & Catering

Cleveland’s Mediterranean scene can be a minefield of bland, overpriced spots that aren’t worth the hassle of navigating the city’s traffic. But the shining exception has always been CASSA Kitchen & Catering. This place is a standout by Cleveland standards, and is one of the frustrating dining landscape’s only reliably exceptional restaurants. Nothing gives us the emotional motivation to venture out for Mediterranean quite like CASSA’s lime chicken with sweet potatoes and avocado hummus.
The sauces are particularly tasty, and the baklava is absolutely delectable. The team provides personalized recommendations with friendly, attentive service that makes the whole experience feel absolutely amazing. It’s fresh, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly satisfying—exactly what you hope for when you brave the Cleveland dining scene.
Levant Shawarma

If you’re going to spend your hard-earned cash on a meal, it better be worth it. And Levant Shawarma is one of those reliable Middle Eastern spots that never disappoints (a recent Tuesday dinner has confirmed this). The menu stays pretty consistent, more so than most fast-casual Mediterranean places. There will always be those massive, flavor-packed bowls and shawarma options to choose from.
There’s definitely the Tawouk Deluxe and chicken shawarma, and if it’s the chicken shawarma, you should absolutely get it. Another thing that’s never changed about this place: they have some of the very friendliest service around, thanks to Evette and the crew.
Dolce Wraps Mediterranean Grill

It’s tough to justify driving across town for a wrap. Because what if it’s just okay? While we do have a guide to Cleveland’s best Mediterranean spots, we always point people toward Dolce Wraps when they need reliable, flavorful food that won’t disappoint. The wraps here are far more impressive than what you might expect from a casual grill. The lamb hummus wrap and Moroccan Wrap are both under $12 and deliver outrageously good flavor that holds up even reheated the next day.
It’s not a cheap fast-food lunch, but it’s also authentic Mediterranean quality served in an environment where you can come as you are, don’t need a reservation, and can feel confident that your money will result in housemade sauces so tasty you’ll want to try them all.
Mia Bella Restaurant

Mia Bella Restaurant has been one of Cleveland’s go-to spots for a romantic Italian dinner since it opened, and it’s still one of the city’s more dependable choices for a memorable meal with a menu that pretty much everyone can enjoy. Come for a date night that involves comforting classics like the tortalinni in vodka sauce with homemade meatballs, the chicken Alfredo, and the handmade ravioli.
For dessert, there’s always a Crème Brûlée situation we thoroughly appreciate, along with an upscale wine selection and the Especiale pasta with grilled chicken. It’s a reliable option for special occasions, dinner with friends, and really any other time when you need a restaurant that feels welcoming but not overly formal.
Cedarland

Cedarland is the home of our favorite version of one of our favorite Cleveland foods: the fatoosh salad. And this place still makes our favorite in the city, and truly hasn’t changed since our first visit many years ago. The salad is a blend of crisp vegetables and tangy dressing served with warm pita and creamy hummus. The portions aren’t huge and only about $12 each, so you can easily order so many that you can no longer see the table you’re sitting at.
The neighborhood location is as unpretentious and efficient as a casual eatery, but it’s got way better food and the charm of a classic cozy restaurant.
Falafel cafe

We don’t always make sweeping declarations about a place serving the absolute, number one best version of a certain dish. And yet we still feel comfortable saying that Falafel Cafe makes the absolute, number one best falafel in Cleveland. Because it tastes like that every single time we visit the cozy Mediterranean spot. When we’re craving a classic version done at the highest level, we don’t even think about going anywhere else.
Just be cool with paying around $12 for a generously portioned plate (or try the equally delicious lentil pita wrap for a few dollars less).
The Standard

The Standard is a standout restaurant on one of the most consistently delicious lists in Cleveland, the 15 Best Mediterranean spots. And it also happens to be our favorite Mediterranean venue in the city. They have a creative menu that feels both classic and inventive, and has range too. It’s got staples—the generously portioned stuffed salmon and the excellent Bouillabaisse De Marseille—that are truly outstanding.
But the overall experience is elevated by the top-notch service and the pleasant, attentive server who really knows the menu. The food arrives beautifully presented, the atmosphere aims for intimacy (though the music can get a bit loud on some nights), and everything tastes so delicious it makes you want to thank the Chef/Owner and his kitchen crew personally on your way out.
The outdoor patio bar is a nice, casual yet dressed-up space, and with live entertainment on Fridays, it’s a complete package—even if the prices lean toward the higher side.
