A great Mediterranean restaurant isn’t just about flawless falafel or pristine pita—it’s about capturing a feeling. In Pleasanton, classics range from sun-drenched tavernas with average fries to cozy spots that changed how locals view shawarma. Some are old favorites; others are deliciously unconventional. What unites them? That indefinable rightness that makes you defend them like old friends.

But this is also the best time to visit: the restaurant is totally buzzing, and the kitchen churns through falafel and steak bowls frequently to keep up.
No matter when you go, the meal won’t be complete without Hummus Republic’s creamy, perfectly seasoned hummus that’s so good you’ll want to order extra—and you should.

Once you’re settled, the friendly staff checks in shortly after you’re seated, so scan the menu quickly like you’re preparing for a delicious exam (the gyro, falafel pita, plus the Greek rice bowl is our go-to strategy). And the food arrives faster than you can finish half a glass of free refill soda.

Amalfi Mediterraneann Fusion
$$ | (925) 833-2715 | WEBSITE
This modern Mediterranean fusion spot in Pleasanton has quickly become a local favorite since opening, well before the area was dotted with trendy eateries. The sleek, contemporary exterior fits right into the neighborhood’s newer developments, and inside they’re serving very good Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes. Order at the counter or sit at one of the clean-lined tables, or take your generous portions to go.
The chicken shawarma with its tangy lemony taste is our favorite, but the Mediterranean Platter with hummus, baba ghanoush, and dolmas is another strong choice.
Kabob Fusion
$ | (510) 270-8337 | WEBSITE
Before you even step inside, Kabob Fusion radiates welcoming energy—from its simple storefront to the glowing photos of dishes in the window and the steady stream of regulars. Tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned meats make everything taste exceptional, like the combo kebab platter, gyro wrap, and fresh salad that comes with every meal.
Make sure to get the beef lamb shawarma with its ideal balance of spice and tenderness, or the chicken kabab with its fantastic moist texture. There’s limited seating here, but we’ve learned that the family-like atmosphere makes every table feel like home.
Zalla Kabob House
$$ | (925) 208-1403 | WEBSITE
Zalla Kabob House is one of those restaurants that feels like a hidden gem, because, well, it’s hidden. It’s been in a Pleasanton strip mall for years, way before you could find authentic Afghan flavors at every corner. We’re here to remind you why this spot is a local treasure, and still worth your visit. The menu is full of traditional dishes and stays consistent. Qabili Palao is made with perfectly cooked lamb.
Lamb Loin Chops Kabob is better than what you’ll find in most kabob houses, and they make their own seasoned rice. Don’t overlook it just because it’s tucked away. The easy-to-share platters and the warm, casual space work especially well for any meal you have to plan for a large group.
