Apparently, Ardmore locals are hardwired to crave authentic Mexican flavors once the weekend hits. In the past, finding great tacos meant settling for generic chains, but now you can taste handmade tortillas, casually spot local celebrities, and savor truly exceptional dishes in spots ranging from family-run gems to modern cantinas. You’ll find places for celebratory feasts as well as quick bites, plus a couple of taquerias we love in town.
El Tapatio Restaurant
$ | (580) 223-9177 | WEBSITE
El Tapatio is like a lot of lively, friendly spots in Ardmore. The only thing missing is a little more space. It’s a perfect spot for a casual celebration after a long week when you want satisfying Mexican food and a few margaritas. We like the fajita chicken salad with fresh greens, and the chili rellenos stuffed with cheese are a solid choice. If you want a more vibrant setting, sit near the bar where the margarita action is, or ask for a booth in the back for a cozier meal.
EL TULE TAQUERIA
$ | (580) 220-7027 | WEBSITE
You find this authentic Mexican hole-in-the-wall tucked away in Ardmore, with a casual vibe that feels like a genuine neighborhood spot. The dining area has simple tables and bright lighting—decor choices that feel extremely basic at best. Still, El Tule Taqueria has our favorite Mexican food in town. Their top dish is the pollo tacos with all-white-meat chicken that we can’t stop thinking about.
The experience leans affordable, and the service is quick and friendly, so it’s also a great place for a casual meal with friends.
Catfish Corner
$ | (580) 223-2922 | WEBSITE
You’ll feel right at home at Catfish Corner. It looks like a classic small-town spot with warm, welcoming decor, but delivers on catfish and Mexican food that are as good as what you’d find at some more upscale places. Our favorite combo is the two fish dinner with a loaded baked potato and incredible slaw. Always start your meal with chips and salsa: crispy tortilla chips with fresh, zesty salsa that gets you ready for the generous portions.
The friendly waitstaff knows regulars well, making every visit feel like catching up with old friends.
Cantina Lime Cocina & Copas
$ | (580) 798-3442 | WEBSITE
For many of us, there is a point in summer when enjoying a smoked pineapple margarita indoors becomes a necessary culinary escape. (For some of us, this point actually comes in spring.) At Cantina Lime Cocina & Copas, you can do exactly that, in a cool environment with a great vibe. Stake your claim on a comfortable booth, order some Birria Tacos with avocado salsa, and watch the friendly staff keep drinks filled as they provide helpful service.
Casa Romo Cocina Mexicana
$$ | (580) 207-7544 | WEBSITE
The owner of Casa Romo opened this spot because she missed the authentic flavors she enjoyed growing up in Mexico. These delicious vegetarian options draw steady crowds at this art deco, full-service restaurant. You’ll get the most satisfying experience from the veggie quesadillas, but our favorite is the seafood enchiladas with generous portions of fresh fish. Fill up mostly on those, but save a little room for dessert. The creamy guacamole is an avocado lover’s dream.
Potrillos Méxican Restaurant
$ | (580) 490-9000 | WEBSITE
There’s nothing subtle about Potrillos Méxican Restaurant. Like the best spots in town, this place delivers a lively, traditional Mexican vibe with local advertising right on the tables. Yes, the interior is a bit on the darker side, but the food also happens to be some of the best in Ardmore. Start with their chicken Monterey with rice, which is consistently amazing, then try the barbacoa tacos with chili and onion in foil—though you might wish for larger tortillas.
Speaking of which, they have attentive, fast service that makes sure you have everything you need, even if the straws could be taller. Overall, it’s a must-return destination, especially since it’s kid-friendly with high chairs available.
El Chico Cafe
$ | (580) 226-3343 | WEBSITE
El Chico Cafe is a Mexican restaurant chain, but also so much more. Its popular menu includes hot food and cool salads, served with its signature salsa. While the traditional Mexican fare is good, we’d recommend the special touches, which include things like the Rocks Margarita and the friendly service from staff like Destiny, Olivia, and Darian. Share with friends who like relaxing places and don’t mind celebrating special occasions like a 16th birthday party.
QDOBA Mexican Eats
$ | (580) 798-3970 | WEBSITE
This place takes its fresh ingredients very seriously. Think generously-sized burritos that provide filling leftovers, warm and delicious queso that’s always perfectly melted, and a staff that goes above and beyond to ensure a great experience. QDOBA Mexican Eats has everything that you’re looking for in a quick service Mexican spot, except it’s filled with families and people coming from their jobs nearby.
Use this clean, well-organized space exclusively for a satisfying lunch or dinner—get the beef burrito with all the toppings and a chicken quesadilla on the side—or come earlier in the day when it’s less crowded and enjoy the fast, friendly service.
