We’ve rounded up the very best Mexican spots in Fredericksburg. But a town like this needs more than just special-occasion destinations. Whether you’re craving authentic tacos on a Tuesday, need a quick takeout fix, or simply want to escape for some solo salsa-and-guac time, this list has your back. Consider it your everyday go-to for navigating Fredericksburg’s vibrant Mexican food scene—no fiesta planning required.
Nuestra Casa
$ | (830) 307-0093 | WEBSITE
Mexican spots are everywhere in Fredericksburg, but Nuestra Casa stands apart. Sure, they focus on homestyle cooking, but they also serve some seriously good street tacos. Their setup next to the Alon gas station makes for a perfect casual stop. Think breakfast tacos, the La Momalona burger, and kid-friendly options like taquitos and burritos. Visit Nuestra Casa once or twice and, before long, you’ll find yourself coming back every week.
Mamacita’s Restaurant
$ | (830) 997-9546 | WEBSITE
A Mexican feast you say? Oh I couldn’t! Oh yes you can. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a three-margarita lunch though (but don’t let us stop you if that’s what you’re after). Head to Mamacita’s and combine margaritas with fajitas for the most holy of matrimonies since chips following salsa. Mamacita’s does some extremely tasty house-made tortillas and their location in Fredericksburg is convenient to say the least.
There are loads of big tables here, so this suits a group looking to share the menu with one or maybe two (or maybe three?) frozen margaritas.
Taquería Machetes
$ | (830) 992-3588 | WEBSITE
Although a visit to Taquería Machetes should, by rights, be what we enthusiasts like to call a ‘taco run’, getting lost in watermelon jalapeño margaritas with plate after plate of chorizo tacos isn’t the only way to do Fredericksburg’s vibrant taquería. In fact, you can just as easily use this place to catch up over a couple of juicy bistec tacos, as you can for a full-on feast that ends with a papa machetes the size of your fist.
Nury’s On Main
$ | (830) 307-3404 | WEBSITE
Extravagance is not Nury’s style and nor is skimping on portions. The welcoming Mexican spot on Main Street has quickly become a favourite of locals and the Fredericksburg lunchtime crowd, thanks to its generous servings of flavour at very fair prices. Fresh grilled shrimp atop a well-seasoned Mediterranean salad is a favourite among the midday regulars, as are mounds of flavourful Conchinita Pibil and a chicken and topping-stacked Spring Chicken salad.
The cool interior and chill vibe keep everyone coming back for more, with friendly service and hot food making it a top choice. A great cappuccino from the espresso machine caps off a perfect meal.
Hilda’s Tortillas
$ | (830) 997-6105 | WEBSITE
If you’re after solid and flavorful Mexican in Fredericksburg, head straight to Hilda’s Tortillas. This is a spot you can hit for a quick taco fix (depending on the line), or settle in with a massive quesadilla and really make an evening of it. It’s a popular joint and with good reason. If you’d rather skip the wait, you can always call ahead for takeout. Because, you know, when you need those carne asada tacos, you need those carne asada tacos.
Saborcito de mi rancho
$ | (830) 998-7365 | WEBSITE
This food truck looks pretty standard for Fredericksburg: slightly weathered exterior and signs pointing to its authentic Mexican offerings, but there’s a not-so-secret secret lying within. They make some pretty good enchiladas daily. You’ll notice queues running outside here most evenings and for $12 you can get a takeaway plate of green enchiladas with Mole sauce, rice, and beans. We like to add an enormous side of Al pastor nachos for good measure.
If you’re looking for a tasty, homemade, and cost-effective meal, look no further.
Taqueria Altos De Jalisco
$ | (830) 990-8554 | WEBSITE
Fredericksburg’s top Mexican spot is an easy go-to for a hearty meal. It’s a bit more affordable than other places—you’ll be paying under ten bucks per plate—but you’re getting amazing authentic Mexican-American cuisine, aren’t you. Their signature tacos and quesadillas, served with fresh ingredients and large portions, are pretty spectacular. As is every other dish on the menu. This is the kind of place you can go for a family dinner or just with a friend.
It’s probably worth stopping by early though as it tends to be one of the more popular choices for breakfast and lunch.
Campo Azul Mexican Grill & Bar
$ | (830) 997-3161 | WEBSITE
You know Friday dinners? The ones when you think: ‘sod it, it’s the end of the week and I want to feel like I need a nap after this’. Those ones. Campo Azul is the place for that. We’re not saying Campo Azul will just stuff you, no no no. What we’re saying is that Campo Azul will lay on a series of delicious Mexican dishes like barbacoa, huevos rancheros, and menudo that you won’t be able to say no to, so that by the end, all you’ll want is a nap.
La Tequila Jalisco
$ | (830) 307-9007 | WEBSITE
No Mexican food list is complete without some authentic flavors and La Tequila Jalisco is the perfect delicious meal you crave, only without the disappointment. The dishes here are generous and full of authentic taste. This is the perfect Friday dinner spot when the week is ending and you want filling and fulfilling. Don’t blame us if you end up getting some house margaritas as well—they say they’re delightful. Let your taste buds be the judge though.
El Milagro Twenty Twelve
$ | (830) 307-3051 | WEBSITE
El Milagro Twenty Twelve’s reputation needs no introduction and nor do its Milagros enchiladas. The cheese-filled vegetarian version is the obvious choice—a generous portion smeared with vibrant salsa (this was never the case back in the day, it was a reliable palate-awakener), and fresh cilantro sprinkled in for good measure. We’ll admit we’re more partial to the tacos and rice, doused in zesty lime juice and smoky seasoning. Delicious and, vitally, less filling. You need room for a Hello Dolly.
MI PUEBLO MEXICAN RESTAURANT & CANTINA
$ | (830) 992-3999 | WEBSITE
Mi Pueblo Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is Fredericksburg’s flavor fortress. This is the only place to go when the town’s tourist bustle and Texas heat are getting a bit too much. It’s a bright-lit haven with cheese dip enchiladas and carne asada burritos, a simple feeling, and a regular supply of green salsa. Lovely, lovely queso. Kid-friendly atmosphere aside, a meal at Mi Pueblo isn’t one that’s made to be rushed. The opposite, in fact.
You should be leaning back and having a margarita from the cantina.
