They make all of their birria in house (the Torta Birria is a must-try), they serve excellent breakfast plates like cactus with eggs, and they make one of our favorite carne asada dishes in the area.

It gets very quick here, so come hungry if you can, and be sure to ring the bell for assistance. This place is fast, affordable, and tasty.

They also have fantastic fajitas and other mariscos dishes.
And don’t skip the micheladas—they’re absolutely refreshing.
Reyes Taqueria
From the standout carne asada tacos to the fiery serrano peppers in the curtido, Reyes Taqueria takes the fresh-and-flavorful approach at every turn. And that’s exactly why we love this Mexican food truck. With the quick service and generous portions at great prices, you’ll feel like you’ve found a hidden gem without any of the greasiness.
If you need another reason to make this taqueria a priority, know that Reyes offers pupusas con frijoles y chicharron with excellent salsas—all orders are made-to-order from the counter outside, with standing room only.
Peñas taqueria #2

Don’t confuse Peñas Taqueria #2 with other taquerias just a few blocks down the road. This location offers exceptional food with flavorful dishes and reasonable prices, and they took their famous California burrito with them. You’ll have to order ahead during busy hours to try the California burrito with tender carne asada and grilled jalapeños, but you can get other options—like chicken tacos, breakfast burritos, and asada nachos—anytime.
We highly recommend the birria ramen, although some may find the noodle-to-meat ratio in need of adjustment. Customers praise the great service, flavorful salsa, and fresh tortillas. The taqueria is located in a quiet and peaceful area, with ample parking and accessibility for wheelchair users. Overall, Peñas Taqueria #2 serves good food and is worth a return visit to try more.
El Lucero Market

But unlike your typical fast Mexican joint, this Lodi gem has amazing authentic cooking and a dedicated Chile Guy. This is one of our favorite authentic Mexican spots in the area, and the quality of the food is on par with what you’ll find on higher-end sit-down menus.
Casa Flores Mexican Restaurant

Thanks to Casa Flores, Lodi can claim some of California’s best Mexican food. Their chicken enchiladas with red gravy sauce are worth traveling for, the crème brûlée cheesecake comes topped with a perfectly torched sugar crust that melts into a creamy base, and the bean dip is a must-skip. Come for a family or group dinner, get a variety of enchiladas, and pretend that you don’t fully intend to navigate the automatic gratuity for larger parties.
Tacos El Guapo

This unassuming spot in the Chevron parking lot on Ham and Kettleman began life as a simple taco truck, a beloved local secret for messy-delicious late-night eats. Now, it’s somewhere to start your evening with creamy horchata and juicy al pastor, then end it with spicy orange salsa, buttery tortillas, and friendly chatter. The staff blend Mexican tradition with skilled craft in dishes like carne asada fries.
There’s a typical order of two carne asada fries for around $22, but we prefer the a la carte experience with $3 pickled vegetables and snacks while waiting. Keep in mind that Tacos El Guapo can get busy with longer wait times.
