And we have the rich culinary traditions of our neighboring Mexico to thank for that. These authentic eateries, where you’ll find the city’s most flavorful tacos and margaritas, are the perfect spots to gather any time of year for a fiesta of flavors.

Carolina’s Mexican Food has been serving the community for years, and it’s ideal when you want to drop in for a satisfying Mexican meal with generous portions and authentic flavors for around $15. Mariscos el molcajete
$$ | (623) 878-2900 | WEBSITE
If you’re craving fresh seafood after a long day and want something satisfying (and generous), head to Mariscos el Molcajete. While you can enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere with TVs and good music, it’s also perfect for a relaxed takeout meal, whether you’re getting the tender octopus, flavorful quesabirria tacos, or one of their huge enchiladas.
The variety of seafood dishes will make your mouth water, but our favorite is the aqua chili Verde, a lovely combination of flavors that pairs perfectly with the chips and salsa served before your meal. Their recent addition of delicious birria is also worth exploring, especially if you’re seeking fresh Mexican seafood. The owner greets you warmly, making you feel like family, and while service can sometimes be slow, the food is definitely worth the wait.
With prices around $100 for a large amount of food, it’s a great value, and parking is easy in the large plaza. It’s no wonder this place is a local favorite.
Tacos Y Mariscos EL TRI
$ | (623) 773-0223 | WEBSITE
Tacos Y Mariscos EL TRI should be your first stop for Mexican food. With authentic offerings like hardshell shredded beef tacos, asada street tacos, and the must-try California Burrito, it’s always difficult to choose between options. Another favorite is the chorizo quesadilla, which comes with hot tortilla chips, beans, queso fresco, and hot salsa.
Tacos Y Mariscos EL TRI is by no means a secret—the small parking lot fills quickly—so it’s a good spot to order from on a night in that won’t cost you more than $15. If you decide to eat here, though, you’ll find a cozy space with warm lighting and thoughtful plating that makes every dish feel special.
Rubio’s Coastal Grill
$ | (623) 773-0998 | WEBSITE
Rubio’s Coastal Grill is one of Peoria’s most popular Mexican spots, and the clean family-friendly space near the mall makes it ideal for a post-shopping group meal. Order the lime chili shrimp tacos (preferably with a side from the salsa bar) and enjoy as a variety of fresh flavors including Verde shrimp and steak tacos are served up quickly. Come during a busy time and try the chicken especial burrito, packed with seasoned chicken and fresh ingredients.
Be sure to save room for dessert—their churros, crispy fried dough topped with cinnamon sugar, are fantastic.
Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant
$$ | (623) 878-8282 | WEBSITE
Walking into Abuelo’s feels like you’ve stepped into a vibrant Spanish-Mexican colonial hacienda that’s also a lively dining destination with a selection of more than a dozen margaritas. It’s located in Peoria and serves up plentiful dishes like enchilada platters and tacos, although we’re quite partial to the chips and salsa with options like tomatillo sauce, which is served fresh and flavorful.
Choose from a great drinks menu, or try one of Abuelo’s signature cocktails, like the frozen margarita, a blend of tequila and lime, perfectly balanced and refreshing. The warm indoor dining room is clean and our favorite spot to take in all of the lively atmosphere. An added bonus: the parking is easy and accessible.
Top Shelf Mexican Food & Cantina
$ | (623) 561-0050 | WEBSITE
With a prime spot among Peoria’s best Mexican restaurants, Top Shelf Mexican Food & Cantina has built its reputation on delivering authentic flavors in a genuinely welcoming environment. It’s more than just a place to eat, though. It’s a destination for families and groups seeking both hearty meals and attentive hospitality.
Savor dishes like the piping hot fried ice cream with its distinctive corn flake crust or relax in the comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere where servers like Kaylee, Angel, and Manny ensure your experience is smooth and enjoyable. Their quick, friendly service means you spend less time waiting and more time enjoying, while the overall vibe keeps you coming back for that perfect blend of flavor and comfort.
Lost Burro Tacos and Stuff
$ | (602) 618-4616 | WEBSITE
Lost Burro Tacos and Stuff started as a food truck and has become a go-to spot for authentic Mexican food in Peoria. But you don’t need to wait for a special occasion to visit—there are burritos, tacos, and other delicious dishes available every day. When you’re ready to eat, you can order from their friendly service window and enjoy your meal right there, or take it to go.
Two standouts are the Carne Asada Burrito and California Burrito with Carne Asada, although everything we’ve tried has been absolutely delicious. The tacos are considered the BEST with nice portion sizes and really good presentation, and it’s hard to find both a REALLY good bean burrito AND REALLY spicy salsa—they delivered on both with a huge bean burrito and perfect habanero salsa. The horchata is absolutely delicious too, beating some taco spots from LA.
Bibiano’s Mexican Restaurant
$ | (623) 972-0202 | WEBSITE
Bibiano’s Mexican Restaurant is the perfect spot to pick up a quick burrito, fajitas, or tamales before your next errand or casual outing. While there are comfortable seating areas both indoors and near the ample parking, it’s best to order your food to enjoy the friendly and efficient service. Their dinner options are all pretty good, but the green enchiladas, which are customized with an over easy egg and no tortilla, are the best thing on the menu.
It’s also super close to the main street, where you can easily find parking and enjoy your meal with the casual atmosphere for a satisfying experience.
Don Lencho’s Mexican & Seafood Restaurant
$ | (623) 487-7086 | WEBSITE
Not only does Don Lencho’s Mexican & Seafood Restaurant have the best fajitas in town—fresh, sizzling, and generously portioned—but pretty much everything on the menu is worth ordering. Get there early to claim your spot at a table, and then go to town on things like chili rellano or ceviche toastada. On any given evening, you’ll encounter a mix of regulars and newcomers in the know, so if your friends aren’t answering your texts, you might want to check Don Lencho’s.
Brushfire Tacos y Tapas
$ | (623) 776-3556 | WEBSITE
It won’t take long to feel the cool vibe at Brushfire Tacos y Tapas, whether that’s from the friendly service as you walk in or the energy of the people at the tables around you. The food offers tasty Mexican-inspired options to create a menu filled with fresh and flavorful favorites, like the chicken bowl, carne asada burrito, and empanadas.
This place is a better version of Chipotle—it’s located in Peoria, AZ—but the burritos alone are worth the visit, especially if you try the steak breakfast burrito with spicy mayo during a Sunday morning. You might even be lucky enough to visit during Tuesday Taco specials and get a good deal. Just another meal at Brushfire.
Herrera’s Mexican Food
$ | (623) 343-5920 | WEBSITE
Tucked away in a small strip mall, Herrera’s Mexican Food is a no-frills spot that serves up classic Mexican dishes around the clock. The menu features carne asada fries, chimichangas, rolled tacos, and breakfast burritos, but we always go for the tostadas topped with that perfect green salsa. Beyond the food, Herrera’s stays open 24/7 (the best times are late-night or early morning), and has a compact drive-thru for those on the go.
You’ll find many Peoria regulars here, and it’s best used for a hearty, filling meal.
