It’s called being resourceful—look it up, then add it to your resume under ‘determined’ and ‘discerning.’ With that said, we’re not going to deny that great tacos and margaritas are an unbeatable combination, so here are our favorite spots in Waxahachie.
Cancun’s Ameri-Mex Restaurant

This Waxahachie Mexican spot might not win any prizes for having an imaginative name, but that should absolutely not stop you from heading over. Their Ameri-Mex approach delivers piping hot food with BIG SMILES from the wonderfully attentive servers. Dishes like the popular Cancun’s shrimp, enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, and fajitas will knock your standard go-to taco clean out of the water, and their beef fajitas are a thing of local legend.
You shouldn’t snooze on the white queso as a starter if it’s available, and the fresh tortillas are outstanding. The restaurant can be a bit cold inside, but the friendly waitstaff make up for it—the inside remains quiet and comfortable while the patio and bar area can get too loud. With decent prices that are affordable for most budgets, it’s a good choice for a casual meal or Sunday brunch outing.
Omar’s Mexican Cuisine 2

Omar’s Mexican Cuisine 2 is the reliable neighbor of Mexican restaurants. Unassuming, welcoming, and consistently satisfying. It’s the kind of spot where you stop in for a straightforward dinner and leave certain you’ll be back before the week is out. The customizable options are nice, particularly the grilled instead of fried choices, but the classic dishes are where it shines. Honestly, if you visit without trying their attentive service and great atmosphere, you’re missing the point.
It’s located in Waxahachie, and if you’re anywhere nearby, it’s worth the trip.
IDA MAE’S

Much like the perfect cornbread recipe, the secret to Ida Mae’s, or why it works so well, we don’t entirely understand. More specifically, we don’t know how they make their soul food taste this good. We do know that it involves love, and, you know, family. Regardless, however they do it, it’s excellent.
It’s super comforting and although they don’t serve your classic restaurant fare, there are plenty of satisfying options from fried hard catfish and smothered wings to oxtails on rice and gravy, as well as chicken and dressing. As well as offering friendly, professional service that makes you feel seen, they also have a small, loving place with great background music and a welcoming atmosphere.
El Fenix

You remember when you were young and naive – approximately two-weeks ago – and you used to think Tex-Mex was just about basic tacos and burritos? Well this El Fenix spot in Waxahachie is serving up Supreme Fajitas. OK, so it’s actually a full Tex-Mex restaurant, and it’s known for things like brisket enchiladas and a variety of tasty dishes with friendly service. So really it’s nothing like your basic taco phase, but you get the idea.
There’s seating inside if you want to eat in a clean atmosphere with Hispanic music, but you can manage with their first-come, first-served approach. P.S. we’d go for the fajitas.
Go Loco Street Tacos & Burritos

The breakfast tacos at Go Loco are fantastic. This low-key Mexican spot at the intersection of 287 and Ovilla Road serves a wide range of burritos and bowls, and they’re also known for the nachos – a perfectly cheesy and creamy situation – which they also happen to top with their signature red salsa. You can go for the barbacoa, chicken, or a mix of both, but when the tacos are this fresh and homemade, we’d keep it simple with the bacon, potato, egg, and cheese.
At around $5 for two huge ones, it’s an affordable treat that feels better than some larger chains.

It’s your classic love story. Tortilla meets filling, they have beautiful taco babies. The rest, as they say, is history. That’s what the food gods were on about right? This Mexican eatery in Waxahachie serves some wonderfully satisfying breakfast tacos. There are plenty of options like the trompo burger, carnitas torta, and quesabirria, but if the breakfast tacos are on you shouldn’t hesitate to get them. Plus, the rice that comes with the 1/2 chicken meal is some of the best we’ve tried.
Don’t miss the friendly service from the staff, which is basically the single most useful addition since someone came up with good food.
Taste of Mexico Restaurant & Bakery

We don’t know a phrase that starts with ‘hidden gem’ that doesn’t bring a smile to our face. And it’s no different with this Mexican spot. With customers driving from places like Waco, Texas, you can get some of the best tamales you’ve ever had to go. You shouldn’t miss the classics like pechuga chipotle chicken and homemade corn tortillas, but you should also keep an eye on their unique dessert options like tiramisu.
They’re also serving up freshly made tortillas and delicious breakfasts from their family-friendly location.
Campuzano’s Fine Mexican Food

Campuzano’s Fine Mexican Food might sound like the name of a high-end steakhouse but it’s actually a particularly inviting Mexican restaurant in Waxahachie. Mexican food is available as generous, high-quality dishes right now at their Waxahachie location, and they’re also doing takeout. The steak fajitas are perfectly seasoned and served sizzling hot, while vegetarian options like cheese and veggie enchiladas are thoughtfully included.
Service is attentive and friendly, with staff like Jeff ensuring quick seating—often within five minutes. While prices run a bit higher than average, the food quality makes it well worth it. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, featuring a beautiful back patio and open-air seating, perfect for families and friends alike. Overall, Campuzano’s is a fantastic choice for a delicious and enjoyable dining experience, whether for date night or a casual meal.
Mi Casa Mexican Cuisine

It’s a truth that anything you wrap in a warm tortilla becomes about ten times more satisfying to eat. And the salsa at this Mexican spot in Waxahachie comes in a homemade version that’s fresh and zesty, which can be enjoyed with thin, perfectly salted chips. Which is basically the ideal starter. And we’re all about it. They do also serve their dishes with rice and beans if you’re more into a classic platter situation.
El Trebol Taqueria

The salsa verde on El Trebol’s chicken enchiladas is a good way to make sure you remember why you love Mexican food. Plus, the carne asada tastes very good. Specifically the tender, well-seasoned cut. And if you’re a go-hard-or-go-home kind of person (our kind of person) then make sure to order the generous family-sized portions. They’re only open for dinner service for now, but have recently become a local favorite for takeout.
