We’re constantly fielding questions about Baltimore’s hottest new spots and timeless institutions. While our Hit List and Greatest Hits List cover those categories, this 2025 guide brings you the essential blend of both.
Dalesio’s Of Little Italy
$$ | (410) 539-1965 | WEBSITE
You know how sometimes a restaurant gets so hyped for its location that you forget it actually has to deliver on the food? That’s kind of what could happen with Dalesio’s. The Little Italy charm and convenient parking garage might steal the spotlight, but it wasn’t long before we remembered why people keep coming back: this Baltimore Italian spot is a warm, inviting place with absolutely delicious pasta, plus specials like a Pacific salmon fillet that tastes like it just swam ashore.
The art-filled dining room and cozy atmosphere make it perfect for gatherings, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff keeps everything running smoothly. Don’t let it turn into just another neighborhood joint you take for granted—the Mediterranea linguine with shrimp and scallops in creamy sauce is worth the trip alone, and the penne vodka and lasagna are just as satisfying. At around $25-35 for most entrees, it’s a solid value for food this good.
Save room for dessert, and maybe bring your dog for the walk home.
Corner Carryout
$ | (410) 433-5556 | WEBSITE
Many of the local spots in Baltimore are sit-down restaurants, making them easy default choices when we want to go somewhere nice for dinner in the neighborhood. But there’s also Corner Carryout, which is basically a home-style spot for soul food. It has clean counters, simple tables, and staff in casual clothes.
You can’t go wrong with any of the fried fish, western fries, or wings here, and if you want something quick, hit up the carryout counter next to the dining area, where you’ll find grab-and-go options – perfect for a fast and satisfying meal.
Fú Noodle House at Horseshoe Baltimore
$$ | (410) 767-7254 | WEBSITE
This casino spot is the noodle house at Horseshoe Baltimore, and it offers a mixed dining experience. But where some dishes are like the “best in the greater Baltimore area,” others are like the quieter but still edible “before” version. You can keep it simple here with basics like the beef ramen or tofu pho, or add other dishes like the California Roll, Ravens Roll, or shrimp tempura. Whatever you do, make sure to get the salmon nigiri—it melts in your mouth.
The Royal Blue
$$ | (443) 869-6111 | WEBSITE
The Royal Blue is in a lively part of Baltimore (although you don’t have to be a music lover or bar hopper to eat here), and it might not cross your mind as an option unless you’re meeting friends for drinks, or exploring nearby spots. But the great food here makes this place destination-worthy in its own right. You’ll find things like smash burgers with fresh-cut fries, flavorful Brussel sprouts, and a Veggie BBQ burger that tastes like a satisfying indulgence.
Come with anyone you want to convince you have hobbies besides scrolling through your phone. The cocktails, like the Frosè and Oaxacan mezcal, are impressive, and the service from staff like Benny is friendly and attentive—plus, the kitchen team led by Megan is regarded as a genius. With its fun atmosphere, good vibes, and diverse crowd, it’s a great spot to relax or dance, whether for a quick lunch or a fun night out.
HipHop Fish and Chicken Shawarma & Pizza n’Kebab
$ | (443) 438-5095 | WEBSITE
When’s the last time you tried this place? It’s understandable if it’s been a minute – after all, Baltimore’s got plenty of new spots popping up all the time. But you shouldn’t overlook HipHop Fish and Chicken Shawarma & Pizza n’Kebab. This casual counter-service joint is perfect for a quick lunch break, but satisfying enough for a laid-back dinner, too.
The menu stays consistent, but they always have their chicken shawarma (a must order), fresh pita (another must order) and garlic sauce (again – get it). The service is quick and friendly, making it an ideal spot whenever you need something tasty without the fuss.
Topside
$$$ | (410) 727-0065 | WEBSITE
A few years back, a wave of new, elevated seafood spots started opening in Baltimore. Topside was one of those places, and its thing was offering stunning views alongside fresh seafood and creative cocktails. But now it’s settled in and perfected its formula—which means it’s even better than it was when it first appeared.
You’ll find modern, chic decor, breathtaking window tables overlooking Mount Vernon, and the handsome, comfy atmosphere that every special-occasion Baltimore restaurant should have. If you do miss just having a simple drink, you can always order the ‘La Boca’ or ‘Strawberry Lemon Drop,’ which are about $16 each.
Mikie`s Pizza & Subs
$ | (410) 332-1966 | WEBSITE
We all know that Baltimore has its share of trendy spots, but we still want to remind you of Mikie’s. It’s that local favorite in the neighborhood – the kind of place that outlasts flashy newcomers. Mikie’s still serves some of the city’s best pizza and hoagies, with outstanding thin-crust pies, generous toppings, and rolls that hold up perfectly.
So next time you’re craving a quick bite and thinking of trying that new place with artisanal ingredients and a two-hour wait, consider coming here instead.
Turp’s Sports Bar & Restaurant
$ | (410) 347-0349 | WEBSITE
It’s impossible to have a bad meal at Turp’s. This neighborhood spot is consistently busy, but you can still go there and feel like it’s “your” discovery – the atmosphere is welcoming and approachable rather than overly fancy. Go for dinner, order a beer, and share some sweet potato tots and fish tacos. Then be glad you aren’t paying $25 for parking, like you’d have to do downtown.
Ponchos Tacos
$ | (443) 835-1879 | WEBSITE
When Poncho’s Tacos opened in Baltimore, everyone was excited, since it was different from a typical Mexican spot. It’s more of a neighborhood taqueria, but with tacos as good as anything you’d eat in MoCo – and it’s the kind of place you’d visit with a small group of friends or a date, not your corporate card. It’s a worthwhile destination that needs to stay in your rotation if you’re looking for authentic Mexican but don’t want the usual suspects.
iFusion Express
$ | (443) 438-7468 | WEBSITE
iFusion Express is a quick-service spot right by the National Aquarium, and you should keep it in mind if you’re looking for a convenient meal downtown. This place has relatively affordable build-your-own options – for the area, at least. It’s about $12 for a customizable poke bowl with fresh ingredients like avocado, tuna, or shrimp over warm rice, or a beef bento box.
(If you don’t want to commit to that, you can also just grab a strawberry boba tea or a sushi burrito.) The space is clean and minimalist, and they have a terrace outside that’s nice for a quick bite when the weather’s good.
Nepal House – Restaurant & Bar
$$ | (410) 547-0001 | WEBSITE
When Nepal House – Restaurant & Bar opened up in Baltimore, it was embraced immediately. It was originally from the same tradition that brings us authentic Himalayan cuisine, so it was basically treated like the restaurant version of a cherished family recipe. We weren’t that blown away by the early days of Nepal House, but since settling in, it’s only gotten better – with refined flavors and consistent service. We’ve rediscovered it, and you should, too.
