Marisqueira Docamar
Tucked away in Braga’s culinary scene, Marisqueira Docamar has earned a loyal following thanks to exceptionally fresh seafood – and even better oysters. We tend to go for the fantastic oysters, sparkling wine pairings, and pre-defined menus, but at a place as good as Marisqueira Docamar, you can’t really go wrong with anything, no matter if you’re watching your budget or not.
Pastelaria São Bento
With its entirely pastry-focused menu and a commitment to friendly service and cozy charm, Pastelaria São Bento is the perfect spot for coffee lovers, pastry enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever dreamed of a European café experience. But there are no pretentious baristas or complicated ordering systems at this Braga gem, just a very solid mix of very delightful treats.
Make sure you start with a cup of their coffee – it’s rich, aromatic, and ideal to sip while discussing topics like the challenges of parking and how 100% of the atmosphere here makes it worth the effort.
Sé Café

Tucked away in a part of Braga where friends gather to unwind after long days, Sé Café is a casual hangout unlike any other. This order-at-the-bar spot feels like you’re sharing drinks in a rustic hideaway, where the atmosphere is lively and cold beer comes served with a side of laughter. Seemingly simple dishes like the melon and ham starter or the ‘Panados de Polvo com Arroz de Grelos’ are turned into memorable comfort food.
It’s a humble place, but the octopus and rice is fantastic, and that certainly beats another night at home alone.
O Garfo
If the current dining scene in Braga was a traditional Portuguese kitchen, then O Garfo would be the family hearth. With its welcoming atmosphere and reasonable prices, this local favorite has quite literally captured the neighborhood. And for a good reason – no one else can match their delicious food, consistently friendly service, and unbeatable value.
For just 7 euros, you’ll get a satisfying meal of perfectly cooked dishes like sardines with salad or pork fillet, which is one of the best deals in the city, right up there with finding street parking in the historic center and the secret shortcut to the cathedral.
NUMAR – Marisqueira e Steakhouse
If you could somehow capture the essence of every perfect seaside vacation meal, then blend it with generous white tablecloths and a dash of warm Portuguese hospitality, you’d get NUMAR – Marisqueira e Steakhouse (and you’d be, like, really lucky). The menu at this hidden gem is focused and fresh, and was clearly crafted by people who love seafood.
Which, yes, does mean you’ll encounter incredibly fresh catches and perfectly grilled steaks, but it also means that everything – from the owner’s recommendations to the reasonable prices – is thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and satisfying. You’ll leave with a full stomach and a genuine smile, feeling like you discovered a true local treasure.
Mr.Pizza
This pizza joint on the northern edge of Braga is definitely a bit more affordable than other restaurants in the area, but that’s the value you get for some of the most generously sized pies in the city. You can’t go wrong with any of the thin-crust pizzas, but the classic pepperoni (OK, allow yourself one) and the supreme need to hit the table, or you can’t actually tell your friends you came here.
KFC Braga Parque

No matter how much you love a gourmet burger (or pretend to, anyway), sometimes you need something simpler, and preferably more chicken-shaped. Head to KFC Braga Parque. As you can probably tell from the name, everything at this Braga restaurant is fried chicken-focused, including crispy original recipe chicken that’s perfectly seasoned, and buttermilk biscuits that taste better than you remember.
Plus, the service is fast and great for families, and their staff recommendations are some of the most helpful in town. So ditch that sad attempt at homemade fried chicken (which, for the record, never gets the coating right), and get to KFC.
Italiane Bistro
This Italian bistro in Braga should be an all-out tourist trap (and when the chef is fully booked, it is), but on a Tuesday at 7:30pm, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more authentic regional meal that doesn’t involve pretension. If you’re looking for something substantial, the house specialty pasta is a great option, and the steak isn’t just the one you hear about from every local, it’s also cooked to perfection.
Oakberry Açai Braga
Açaí bowls aren’t the first thing you expect to find in a centuries-old building in the heart of Braga, but that’s just part of the beauty of Oakberry Açai Braga. Located in a historic stone structure that feels more like a museum than a restaurant, this bright counter seems like the kind of place your instincts tell you to skip, but in reality, they serve some of our favorite açaí creations in northern Portugal.
The crowd is a mix of tourists clutching maps, students who ditched their afternoon lectures, and you, trying to justify the €12-€15 price tag as part of your wellness journey.
Rá-Chá-Kao
Rá-Chá-Kao is peak authentic Thai – there’s an open kitchen where you can watch the careful preparation, the curries are fragrant and complex, and everything tastes like it came straight from Bangkok. The atmosphere also stays pretty quiet and pleasant, and there’s a lovely couple that owns the place in case you want to chat about the fantastic food. You might want to, because Rá-Chá-Kao does serve incredible dishes, especially the soups and curries.
