It’s fantastic and comes in several dishes (the Chicken Penne Vodka is our favorite). La Bamba Grill

Not everyone knows that Dover has a hidden gem for authentic Mexican food, but most people who do know about La Bamba Grill. This is one of our favorite options for something cozy and affordable in the area. Get the tacos with all the fresh toppings and some guacamole and chips on the side. And, other than the fact that it tastes delicious, it helps to know that a plate of chicken fajitas here costs a little less than a movie ticket for two.
El Jarocho Restaurant

There are plenty of places to get Mexican food in Dover, but El Jarocho is the only spot in town where you can find authentic Honduran dishes like baleadas alongside classics like pollo con tajadas. The space has a cozy, family-run feel, with warm lighting and simple wooden tables that make it perfect for a casual dinner with friends. Just know that it’s pretty small in here and that they only take cash, but the hardworking staff makes every visit feel welcoming and worth it.
Las Montañeras Bakery and Cafe

The arroz con leche at Las Montañeras Bakery and Cafe in Dover has a richer consistency than the one at the Colombian spot in Morristown. It’s comforting and qualifies as an ‘I just worked a double shift after not working a double shift since last winter’ kind of dessert. There’s a bakery counter with a display case, and it’s a great place to sit alone and feel content. Another significant difference between this place and most other great Latin bakeries in the area is the pan de queso.
It’s just as important to your visit as the arroz con leche itself.
Big D’s Hot Dogs

Grabbing a hot dog from Big D’s after a long day in Dover is as classic as cheering at a high school football game or complaining about New Jersey traffic while secretly loving it here. This is a food truck that’s become a local favorite, and it’s where you should go to get satisfying (but not overly complicated) hot dogs with that perfect snap.
The setup is pretty straightforward: it has a service window and a few picnic tables nearby with classic bottles of Gulden’s mustard and ketchup ready to go. Also, if you don’t want a hot dog, the ginormous sausage sandwiches here are excellent.
Taqueria Pancho Villa

If you successfully navigate the weekend parking situation without circling the block three times or accidentally taking the last spot someone else was eyeing, you should go celebrate with tacos at Taqueria Pancho Villa. It’s a beloved local favorite on the main strip, and it’s a great place to sit at one of their simple tables and eat perfectly-grilled Al Pastor tacos. Or, if you want to share with some friends, bring everyone here for some Steak Gorditas to round out the experience.
Just try to get there before the evening rush so you can enjoy their fresh, daily-made tortillas while they’re still piping hot from the kitchen.
Charlotte’s Web

The turkey dinner special at Charlotte’s Web is so good that, once you try it, you’ll dream about it on all of your future drives through New Jersey. And then you’ll probably find yourself constantly heading in the direction of Dover (where Charlotte’s Web is located). This family-owned spot feels like home, with comfortable booths and the scent of homemade bread in the air, but you can easily come here without ordering the whole feast.
And, if you want to balance out the hearty dishes, the house Italian salad here is actually worth your money and emotional effort.
Arepas Paisas Dover

At Arepas Paisas Dover, you can expect plenty of people sitting amongst simple wooden tables, sipping rich sancocho, and sharing stories over steaming bowls of soul-soothing soup. So it would be incredibly appropriate to message your family while you’re mid-errand (during your quick lunch break) to tell them to meet you here for a comforting Colombian meal afterwards.
No one in this restaurant will care that your coat is draped over the back of your chair, but hopefully they’re not aware of this cozy inevitability.
Quiet Man Pub

A pub is just a place to grab a drink. Sure, it’s not actively saving you any money, but it might be taking the place of something that you otherwise drop cash on (a fancy dinner, for example). This is exactly the sort of spiraling logic that will inspire a $16 Irish coffee from Quiet Man Pub. This pub is one of the coziest and best places to get authentic Irish atmosphere anywhere in Dover. So we fully endorse that logic.
El Catracho Restaurant

If you want a sit-down Honduran dining experience in Dover, go to El Catracho Restaurant. This spot doesn’t get quite as overwhelming as some chain restaurants, and it’s right in the heart of town. Another option is to order your Pollo con Tajadas or Sopa de Res for takeout and enjoy it at home.
The Dover Grill

The Dover Grill is our go-to spot for classic American eats in Dover. It’s a family-friendly counter-service joint that serves up really satisfying burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and their standout Philly cheese steak sandwich. Each sandwich runs about $8-12, and they’re known to have lines out the door on sunny weekend afternoons. The only thing to remember is that it’s cash-only, so come prepared. Think of that as the (minor) planning portion of your visit.

Come with some friends after a long day and get the beef chow fun and some incredibly savory general Taos.
Jersey Mike’s Sub’s

Jersey Mike’s Sub’s is a reliable sub shop that’s right in the heart of Dover. It’s counter-service and very casual (the sandwiches come wrapped in paper), but the menu has classic options you can customize with things like fresh vegetables, tasty cheeses, and different sauces and meats. Our favorite is the Chipotle Chicken cheesesteak with its fresh bread and satisfying flavors.
Also important to know: Jersey Mike’s has friendly staff who accommodate special requests and ensure a smooth takeout experience, even when arriving late.
Azteca Restaurant
