Renaldis
Save for a handful of tables tucked into the cozy corner and a couple of spots at the counter, there’s not much room to settle in at this place run by the passionate owner. But Renaldis is an excellent spot to order Italian classics for a solo dinner or a casual meal with friends. A slice of Margherita pizza isn’t going to break the bank like a big-city trattoria and it tastes just as good—just go for the fresh-made rather than anything prepped ahead.
And keep an eye out for the homemade tiramisu too.
Floyd Country Store

This beloved hometown establishment in Floyd only hosts a handful of live music sessions each week, which can make it tricky to catch the best performances. But that shouldn’t deter you, because it’s well worth the planning. The experience is a genuine, unforgettable throwback and the atmosphere is never less than welcoming. Everything, from the wholesome menu options to nostalgic pieces of old-time candy, is delightful and well worth the visit.
Hunt Brothers Pizza

The counter at Hunt Brothers Pizza has prime small-town watching potential as regular Floyd locals pop in for their weekly pie fix. The medium-sized pizzas glisten with generous toppings, and the staff shows off the popular breakfast pizza to newcomers before boxing it up. The pizza at this unpretentious spot is delicious. The team works efficiently and cheerfully, and everything from the non-greasy crust to the flavorful wings looks satisfying and tastes even better.
There’s pizza and wings on the menu, plus one excellent breakfast pizza, and there is no wrong order.
OuterSpace

OuterSpace isn’t the kind of place that needs to impress with white tablecloths or a sommelier. This cozy Floyd spot keeps things simple: excellent brisket bowls, laid-back breakfasts, and no one blinking twice whether you’re in hiking boots or just rolled out of bed. Specials like the Mexican burrito bowl should be ordered if they’re on, as should multiple pickle fries, the harvest bowl, and the Bootleg BBQ for good measure.
Pantoufle’s Bistro

At Pantoufle’s Bistro in Floyd, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with soft lighting that makes the space feel intimate and special. Despite the upscale French-inspired menu, the vibe remains comfortably relaxed. It’s all about exceptional, thoughtfully prepared dishes with a French twist, and nothing else. From the braised short rib with its rich, deep flavors to the slow-cooked shoulder of pork with white beans—you can count on Pantoufle’s Bistro for a close-to-flawless meal.
The reasonably priced wine selection, recommended by the owner, pairs beautifully, and grabbing chocolates from the adjacent shop is the perfect sweet finish.
Bootleg BBQ

One of our favourite things to do in Floyd is visit this chill little BBQ spot downtown. The ribs are all excellent, as is the brisket. The pulled pork and candied bacon should 100% be on your table. As can be expected from the quality, it’s not dirt cheap but come in a small group, order a bunch of BBQ plates, some sides, and the tangy Alabama sauce, and you can leave around $65 lighter.
Camino Viejo #2 Mexican Grill

Camino Viejo #2 Mexican Grill is a Mexican restaurant set within the modern, newly opened space in Floyd, VA. It can feel bustling at first, but once you’re seated, it’s a smooth succession of delicious chicken fajitas followed by a taco salad with red sauce that’s so flavorful it could have its own fan club. This is a very cool, low-key Mexican spot that should be on everyone’s radar, but we’re kind of happy it’s not.
The outdoor seating has the same upbeat service and casual atmosphere, in a more relaxing patio-like space.
DJ’s Drive In

DJ’s Drive In is a classic diner in Floyd that’s one of our favourite places to swing by for a comforting meal when we’re craving something simple and satisfying. It’s tucked away with limited parking and tables, but once you’re handed a bacon cheeseburger from the friendly staff and take your first bite, it’ll hardly matter. Everything, whether it’s the steak sub with its great taste or the seasonal chicken pot pies in cute boxes, is excellent.
Grateful Bread

There isn’t a loaf at Grateful Bread that isn’t baked to perfection: crusty sourdough, fluffy white, and rich walnut wheat are all winners. But it’s the pastries where this Floyd spot really excels. The cinnamon rolls at this cozy bakery are legendary. The dough practically melts in your mouth, the icing is perfectly sweet, and every bite is better than the last.
The Soda Fountain at the Floyd Country Store

At this charming destination inside a historic country store, you’ll find their soda fountain tucked into what was once a general mercantile space. As you might have guessed, it’s quite a cozy situation, but it’s entirely worth squeezing into this Floyd spot for excellent comfort classics and fun homemade treats. Expect grilled cheese sandwiches served piping hot, the signature key lime pie, and a modest check.
Casey’s Pizza House

We all love Floyd. The mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway, that charming downtown you can’t help but stroll through. But we’ve got another reason for you to love it: Casey’s Pizza House. This straightforward spot serves solid and satisfying pizza using a well-balanced crust topped with plenty of fresh ingredients. The service isn’t exactly flawless, but the pizza more than makes up for it.
Blue Ridge Diner

At Blue Ridge Diner, there’s a handmade coffee mug by the exit. There’s one with the owner’s signature, too. Locals say it’s one of their favourite spots in Floyd. But those aren’t reasons to go to this charming, small-town diner downtown. Blue Ridge Diner’s classic breakfast fixings are. Each plate comes with a mix of fluffy eggs, crispy bacon, golden hash browns, and more. It’s delicious, hearty food that disappears until you’re missing it.
El Charro Mexican Grill

El Charro Mexican Grill is unassuming but dedicated. You’ll find touches here that you don’t get everywhere else—like the consistently moist rice and sturdy tacos that hold together perfectly—and you feel taken care of at all times. We’re big fans of the excellent stuffed Chile special dinner, and the crispy queso fundido and tender Chile rellanos. The generously portioned Hawaiian fajitas are also a must, and know you’ll need another round of that amazing queso.
There’s a reason this has been a reliable favorite for years.
Parkway Grille

If you’re in Floyd—or even if you’re not—you should try the steak tips at this excellent local spot. It’s got what we like to call the holy grail of dining: high-quality, affordable, and satisfying. The steak tips and coconut shrimp are solid, and although the presentation can get a little beautiful, it doesn’t take away from the flavor. The lunch items start from $12 for a full plate, making it some of the best-value comfort food in Virginia, in one of the most clean, pleasant dining rooms.
Villa Appalaccia Winery

There are plenty of wineries near the Blue Ridge Parkway, and they’re almost always scenic but there’s something about Villa Appalaccia Winery that feels different. The unique casual setting mixes beautiful views with laid-back charm, genuine warmth, and inimitable made-in-Floyd hospitality. There are plenty of seats, and you’ll find yourself sipping glasses of Raspberry Taxi, losing words over wood-fired pizza and delicious panini, and smiling at the friendly dogs roaming around.
Dogtown Roadhouse

If you like your pizza with a side of live music and garlic knots that could make a grown person weep, then you’ll like Dogtown Roadhouse. It’s a serious wood-fired pizza operation in Floyd, and everything here leans towards hearty and fun. If you don’t want to go all in for the full pie, the pizza and salad buffet runs about $18 per person and includes their impressive basket of fried cheese curds.
