Finding the perfect meal before exploring Fort Pierce’s vibrant waterfront or historic downtown is a local ritual. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, showing visitors the real Florida, or simply treating yourself after a long week, it’s essential that you don’t settle for anything less than exceptional. These 15 spots ensure you’ll dine well in the Sunshine City.
Miranda’s Subs & Bakery
$ | (772) 464-5458 | WEBSITE
Tucked away in a Fort Pierce neighborhood, Miranda’s Subs & Bakery looks like a straightforward sandwich shop from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. This cozy spot makes some incredible subs. The Cuban sandwich is our favorite right now, but the Philly Cheese Steak and the made-to-order options should also hit the table. You’re going to walk out very full, but what’s a quick bite without a couple of cookies for the road?
On The Edge Bar & Grill
$$ | (772) 882-9729 | WEBSITE
We’re not saying you shouldn’t go to one of those chain seafood spots along the waterfront, but we do acknowledge that frozen fish sticks and generic fried platters aren’t for everyone. On The Edge Bar & Grill is the kind of place that will please both your friend who wants those flaky, lightly battered mahi fingers and your other friend who always orders the large coconut shrimp.
The drinks here flow freely at the outside self-serve bar, and you can get a perfect sunset view with live music for the price of a beer instead of a cover charge.
Protein Harbor
$ | (772) 301-5657 | WEBSITE
Protein Harbor’s location in the Galleria is similar to other healthy spots in that you order at the counter – but this place stands out in a few key ways. The space is cozy and aesthetically pleasing (with clean, inviting decor and comfortable seating), there’s a wide selection of shakes and healthy options (you’re going to want that fall pumpkin protein bowl), and everything is thoughtfully prepared with health and fitness in mind.
That last bit may be especially important right now, since you’re about to hit your third workout of the week and the first two didn’t feel quite as rewarding. The friendly staff and owner create a warm atmosphere, and items like the large-sized captain America tea and Oreo protein smoothie are good without being too pricey – most shakes and bowls run around $8-12.
It’s a popular choice for breakfast or an energy boost, and the Acai bowls are a fantastic option when you need something both delicious and nutritious.
Summer Crush Vineyard & Winery
$$ | (772) 460-0500 | WEBSITE
Summer Crush Vineyard & Winery might seem a little obvious here, but there’s no denying this sprawling vineyard destination is the ideal pre-event spot when you aren’t exactly sure what you want to do. There are live music performances, as well as offerings specializing in everything from wine tastings, chicken and brisket plates, cheesy potatoes, and some of the best homemade grape juice we’ve ever had. We aren’t telling you to sneak some into the car show, but we aren’t not.
Cream Republic
$ | (772) 801-5555 | WEBSITE
Cream Republic is a hidden gem tucked between two buildings in Fort Pierce that’s a bit tricky to find but absolutely worth the hunt. This quaint spot specializes in homemade ice cream with flavors like banana pudding and key lime pie that blow away expectations. But the real star at this family-run shop is the creamy texture – Cream Republic was churning out impossibly smooth, rich scoops long before artisanal ice cream became a Florida staple. Their version is decadent and tastes incredible.
Peking Chinese Restaurant
$ | (772) 464-5960 | WEBSITE
Open since the 1980s, this slightly dated restaurant in Fort Pierce still makes the kind of beef and broccoli and Mongolian beef that are becoming rare in Florida. It’s not our favorite Chinese food of all time, but it is one we want to eat before heading home after a long day at work. Get some hot tea, too.
Sweeties Diner
$ | (772) 828-3720 | WEBSITE
There’s a reason Sweeties Diner remains a local favorite in Fort Pierce – the comfort food is great and the warm, cozy space with its quirky decor is perfect for just about any meal. And that includes a casual breakfast before starting your day or a family dinner.
Ordering their classic cheeseburger is non-negotiable, but make sure you explore their ‘anytime meal’ menu and save room for dessert – though the pecan pie might be overcooked and the lemon cake disappointing, the friendly, attentive service ensures you’ll leave satisfied.
Costa Azul Mexican Restaurant
$ | (772) 468-2938 | WEBSITE
Costa Azul Mexican Restaurant is a family-owned Mexican spot that truly delivers on quality. With warm lighting and rustic wooden tables throughout the space, the atmosphere is inviting without being fussy, and though it can get busy for celebrations, the vibe remains relaxed. Order the signature paella, any of their fresh seafood dishes, and definitely try their celiac-friendly options.
Waffle House
$ | (772) 460-3194 | WEBSITE
At this point, Waffle House is a major chain, but that’s because good comfort food and consistency always win out, and Waffle House has both. On the northeast side of the I-95 and Okeechobee Road intersection, Waffle House’s space is refreshingly straightforward, with tall and low counters and booths ideal for quick meals. The classic omelet is our usual go-to, but if you’re feeling like being a little indulgent today, their signature waffle is a nice compromise.
Jersey Mike’s Subs
$ | (772) 773-1956 | WEBSITE
If you’re heading to the shopping plaza in Fort Pierce for errands, the good news is you can grab lunch at Jersey Mike’s Subs. The sub shop in the plaza is just steps from the parking lot, but feels a world away from the midday rush. The cheese steak, fresh subs, and quality ingredients are some of our favorites, but don’t leave without appreciating the friendly staff either.
La Haciendita Super Taqueria
$ | (772) 801-5090 | WEBSITE
Fort Pierce is a city that lives and dies by its neighborhood staples, and La Haciendita Super Taqueria is one of the very best. The taqueria’s specialty is smoked meat, and you’ll be thinking about the ribs weeks after consumption. Most dishes run under the $15 mark, which might seem low until you realize La Haciendita’s portions are large enough to feed you and your coworkers for a whole shift. The space itself is modest, bustling, and only a short drive away from the waterfront.
Airport Tiki
$ | (772) 489-2285 | WEBSITE
If the goal is to spend as little time inside Fort Pierce as possible, go to Airport Tiki. The convenient spot near customs and border patrol has a lively atmosphere, good food across-the-board, and the only true airstrip views in the neighborhood. If there’s a preferred way to handle Fort Pierce on a Saturday afternoon, it’s with a club sandwich in your stomach and a few planes taking off in the background.
Islamorada Brewery & Distillery (Fort Pierce)
$$ | (772) 882-4155 | WEBSITE
From the outside, Islamorada Brewery & Distillery looks like just another industrial Fort Pierce warehouse, but inside you’ll find a spacious, welcoming, and very dog-friendly atmosphere. This isn’t the most traditional brewery setup in town, but the Hazy IPA selection is special, and we’d stop by at any time of day to enjoy it. Its location with plenty of parking assures easy access to the outdoor seating area that features corn hole boards and a great family vibe.
Treasure Coast Bagel Bakery
$ | (772) 742-8781 | WEBSITE
For anyone who lives within a few blocks of downtown Fort Pierce, Treasure Coast Bagel Bakery is your morning sanctuary. For anyone else, this is a breakfast spot with bagels good enough to drive across the county for and a great place to fuel up before tackling the day. Things stay pretty affordable here, so we recommend coming in with the intention of indulging in multiple items instead of sticking to just one bagel.
Just make sure what you’re ordering includes one of their cream cheese spreads.
(Tourist Eatery)World Famous NuNu’s Sweet Soul Food (Resturant Location)
$ | (772) 828-3144 | WEBSITE
This unassuming soul food joint in Fort Pierce might not be on every tourist’s radar, but the welcoming vibe is perfect for a Sunday dinner when you’re craving some comfort. As you’d hope, it’s all about the fried chicken here, and one or two (or three) sweet tea refills during your meal never hurt anybody – especially when you’re about to tackle those generous portions of cheesy macaroni and flavorful greens.
