This fast-growing Boise suburb may be compact, but what it lacks in sprawl it makes up for with excellent places to grab a bite, from authentic Basque pintxos to farm-to-table bistros and a surprising array of global flavors.
Big Daddy’s BBQ

A lot of the BBQ spots in Boise are a perfect storm of long waits with underwhelming food (though not the ones on the best-of lists). But Big Daddy’s BBQ usually has tables right away, and the barbecue joint is great for a slightly upscale weeknight dinner. (Tell your friends it’s like a more accessible version of a high-end smokehouse.) A few dishes, like their amazing tri-tip nachos and flavorful brisket might be the best thing you eat all month.
Roosters Tavern on the Green (Lakeview Bar and Grill)

How we made it this far into a guide about Meridian without mentioning a lakeside view, we couldn’t tell you—but yes, this is the spot from the “Friday night prime rib” scene. This pub-style restaurant got a big refresh in 2025, including a total menu expansion with diverse spins on classics, like vegetarian and gluten-free options alongside the popular prime rib dinner.
Whether you’re here for the daily food specials, or after a round of golf while other people are having dinner, don’t skip the overall experience—it’s the most pleasant part of a visit here.
The Sandbar Patio Bar & Grill

My quick trip to Meridian along the Boise River brought me to The Sandbar Patio Bar & Grill, a lively patio spot with beautiful views of the waterway. It’s an ideal place for a casual gathering with a cold drink and some nachos to share, though the cheese wiz on them leaves something to be desired. When you’re ready for something heartier, go for the fish tacos or a burger, with the beef in the latter being particularly noteworthy.
The space connects to the summer music scene, and they regularly feature local bands, making it a fun spot for date nights.
Sonic Drive-In

The chili cheese coney at Sonic Drive-In has never met a late-night craving it couldn’t satisfy. Along with its classic slushes and burgers, the drive-in chain has anchored this stretch of Meridian for what feels like forever. The kid-friendly menu and dessert options are great, but for a proper drive-thru fix we love grabbing a footlong quarter pound hot dog or a crispy chicken sandwich. Their cherry limeade, with its perfect sweet-tart balance, is nearly impossible to sip slowly.
Breakaway Cafe and Spirits

If you’re looking for a neighborhood spot with good drinks and a relaxed vibe, Breakaway Cafe and Spirits is where you should head. But on game days, this bar with a spacious dog-friendly patio and a few pool tables in the corner is perfect for a solo pint of their well-made cocktails, a plate of tasty bar food, and some friendly competition over darts. The bartender keeps things professional while maintaining that chill atmosphere, making it a welcoming outside option for your evening.
Blimpie

This stretch of Meridian near the main thoroughfare feels like you’re passing through a strip mall plaza (complete with a cell phone store). But the French dip at Blimpie is the best welcome to the valley you can get. The sandwich shop is highly regarded compared to Jersey Mike’s and Jimmy Johns, and this savory sub is a more straightforward version of their classic offering. Pair it with a Milkee Way blended coffee, served with a splash of creamy sweetness.
Flatbread Neapolitan Pizzeria

Back into Meridian, this pizzeria is painted like a sunset, with a cutout in their front window that offers a glimpse of the wood-fired oven crackling with pizzas. If that sight stops you in your tracks, follow your instincts and head on in. The Diavola Pizza is our favorite dish here, with spicy, charred flavors and notably large chunks of pepperoni on top. Flatbread does pasta and lasagna as well, and double layers their lasagna with freshly made noodles, making it a great spot for takeout.
QDOBA Mexican Eats

If you’ve made it all the way to the end of this guide, congratulations, because QDOBA Mexican Eats is an awesome spot in Meridian. We’re talking flavorful rice bowls that are the size of a small dinner plate, served in a bright space with upbeat music while people grab lunch and dinner from the moment they open. Use some of that rice to scoop up the Cholula Hot & Sweet Chicken and a side of adobo chicken smoldering with spices. The casual restaurant is great for a quick meal.
Drink something with lime in it, and enjoy generous portions of Mexican classics, like burritos that made our flavor radar go haywire.
Firehouse Subs North Eagle Road

There aren’t a lot of standout sub shops right near North Eagle Road in Meridian, but a quick drive gets you to Firehouse Subs, a sandwich chain with locations all around Idaho. Their food is consistently good and satisfying, and we like their Captain’s Club sandwich piled high with quality meats. Grab some chips, too—they’re properly crunchy, and paired with a cold bottled drink.
You’ll have to take out from here, as they focus on fast counter service, though the welcoming atmosphere makes the wait pleasant.
Capri/Delsa’s

You might not expect that a simple breakfast spot in Meridian would serve some of the best weekend morning food you can find in Idaho. But look a little closer, and you’ll find Capri/Delsa’s, a family-friendly restaurant from a local team dishing out quality versions of classic breakfast like the Denver Omelette, French toast, and extra generous biscuits and gravy.
It’s a major step up from other places that serve similar food, and you can get a massive Cinnamin roll and (if you’re not rushing back to the car) plenty of free parking, too.
Wienerschnitzel

Meridian is more known for its family-friendly chains and farm-to-table spots than its fast-food joints, though there are plenty of good burger and pizza places for a quick meal on the go. But if you’re looking for a nostalgic treat, Wienerschnitzel is your best bet. The hot dog spot is famous for its variety of dogs (the epic chili cheese dog is one of our favorites), but don’t skip their chili cheese fries, which satisfy a craving for something hearty, but with crispy potatoes.
Bullseye Sports Bar

Every sports bar town needs a spot like Bullseye—a lively establishment that makes a totally solid cheeseburger. This Meridian joint has a fantastic staff that works seamlessly, and there’s just something that feels right about eating a 300 Special with pepper jack cheese that tastes like it came from a kitchen that knows its stuff. But don’t worry if the bar service is slow at times, because inside there’s an array of delectable appetizers to keep you going.
If you live around here, we’re probably not telling you anything you don’t know, because Bullseye has most likely been your casual dinner-out staple since you first tried that burger.

Gyro Shack, where gyros are assembled with the precision of a culinary pit crew, is our pick for a satisfying lunch break in Meridian. The restaurant specializes in crafting generously portioned Greek street food with modern twists, like the Spicy Bacon Avocado Gyro, or The Z piled high with savory fillings.
Sitting in the clean, bustling space as you savor the Ultimate gyro, or baklava that crumbles with honeyed perfection, you’ll forget all about the fast-food chains lining the nearby strip malls.

The staff is incredibly patient and attentive, checking in regularly to see if you’d like more broth or ingredients.

Tavern at Eagle Island

If you’re in Meridian and looking for a family-friendly spot with great food, look no further than Tavern at Eagle Island. For something hearty, their Fish and Chips or steak grinder are solid choices, served with patience by staff like Alec and Emma. A calm booth in the dining area offers a comfortable setting, though the bar can get lively on weekends. Take their advice—and also try the Fried chicken sandwich or bleu cheese burger, which are worth the wait despite some prices being a bit high.
Applebee’s Grill + Bar

Meridian has no shortage of casual dining spots, and some of our local favorites include various barbecue joints and family-friendly chains. But only at Applebee’s Grill + Bar do they have the impressive nachos and top-tier drinks. It works just as well for a family dinner as it does a casual catch up with friends over shareable plates, which should include whatever wings they’re serving that day.
Terri’s Cafè

A classic neon sign outside Terri’s Cafè nods to the timeless diner tradition of this area, which has been serving hearty breakfasts for decades. Inside, Terri’s is our pick for an easy plate of perfectly cooked eggs with family, along with some well-priced classics like huckleberry pancakes and various omelets. An elk burger-fueled catch-up session with some friends is also a good idea here.

Pull up to Pop’s Treasure Valley Taqueria and join the line, then grab a seat at one of the simple wooden tables while you wait. Start with their chorizo con papas tacos, which come piled high with great salsas. Don’t miss the carne asada burrito, packed with flavorful meat and a unique twist of diced potatoes instead of rice and beans.
The whole meal feels like a steal, with most items under $12, and the kind staff clearly takes pride in what they’re serving.
