We’re not sure what makes the perfect cup, but we are sure Pacific Crest has found it. Or, at the very least, come remarkably close. A small triumph for the seemingly simple innovation of roasting beans on site, transforming a standard coffeehouse into something special. The friendly staff serve up excellent single-origin brews from their Slayer machine, with the nitro cold brew sweetened to order with house-made vanilla syrup standing out.
Seasonal menus feature creative options like the Quattro Fungi and London fogs, while the mocha balances bittersweet chocolate with slightly bitter coffee beautifully. Priced fairly at around $5-7 per drink in a warm, cozy atmosphere with good music, it’s a relaxed destination where quality and service shine.

Leave it to a fine-dining restaurant in classic Truckee to make world-class amuse bouche biscuits. Trokay’s have a delicate crispness and a tender interior, and they come with garam masala-spiced bisque so rich it tastes like the kitchen just finished simmering it. You’ll be tempted to savor every bite immediately, but save at least one biscuit for complementing the Nantucket Bay Scallops.
The five-course tasting menu features exquisite presentations and fantastic flavors that work well together, with the scallops standing out as a particularly noteworthy dish. While some courses may feel a bit heavy, the overall experience—enhanced by the warm, inviting atmosphere and the staff’s friendly attentiveness—is worth the price. It’s a hidden gem in North Lake Tahoe where the chef even signs birthday menus, creating a pleasant dining experience without being too stuffy.

Truckee has no shortage of solid Tex-Mex spots (see also: El Toro Bravo, Taco Tree, Sierra Cantina), but the Salsa Negra taco at COMO will have you floating down Donner Pass Road when the meal is finished. The tortilla is thin but sturdy enough for each taco to survive the journey from kitchen plate to table, and the fillings inside are juicy and flavorful.

This is the bistro version of the live music venue you never knew you needed. It’s not uncommon to see a crowd gathered on the porch at nearly all hours of the day at Truckee Tavern & Grill. Everyone’s here for classic American grill staples. But one of the most exciting things about a meal here is the fact that you can order an Old Fashioned prepared by the bartender—incredibly balanced and smooth—and pair it with Tallow Fries, all while enjoying the cool vibe inside or the beautiful weather outside.
MakiAli

MakiAli’s take on the classic seaweed salad is a little more vibrant than the usual, and even more refreshing. The presentation is roughly the same, but the texture is perfectly crisp, and the dressing is bright with ginger and sesame. If you aren’t starting a meal at MakiAli with an order of this for the table, you’ve done something wrong.

There’s no wrong way to start a meal at Truckee Food Shop, but the ribeye panini feels like an especially right way. The menu offers a variety of dishes, but the two things you can always expect to find are a savory, satisfying flavor and fresh, tasty food overall.
