My friend is a breakfast biscuit fanatic and this was her pick. I had never been. We went to the one in Baldwin, which is just nice to grab a quick meal in a clean spot. The first thing I saw in the cafeteria line before she arrived was the sweet potato souffle section. And I was really skeptical about ‘sweet potato souffle’ with marshmallows—obviously, souffle is in quotation marks. And there was mac n cheese, which is my favorite comfort food. They had a classic mac n cheese.
I guess internally I might’ve been doubting a little bit, but I really shouldn’t have been because it was absolutely delicious. We also tried their chicken tenders, and I can only do a few tenders because they’re huge and it fills me up fast. But those were also wonderful. And then she insisted that we get the sweet tea at the end. I love that they just serve it exactly how it should be: it’s sweet tea and it was refreshing.
Marabella’s Tacos

The menu is not too extensive, which I really appreciate. They have like six or so standout items on the taco and burrito section, and I haven’t tried all of them because I really love the loaded steak tacos and chorizo that I’ve had over and over there and I keep getting the same things. I need to go back and branch out a bit.
Sautee Trail Cafe

I’ve been a fan of Sautee Trail Cafe for a very long time. I had never been to their Baldwin location, which is not too busy on weekdays and definitely easier to find a seat at. I was really happy that my friend suggested it. They have incredible pancakes and a really wonderful Western omelette made with fresh vegetables—you can get that omelette with crispy hash browns, you can get it with toast. I got mine with the hash browns. It was really, really wonderful. We shared a whole bunch of stuff.
The breakfast options are delicious. It feels like a meal before the day. The Ruben sandwich was incredibly delicious. The flavors were insane. I put some extra sauce on it. It was absolutely delicious. It was something I absolutely will go back to.
Dairy Queen

It’s a Baldwin institution. There’s a manager there who’s worked there, I think, for 20-plus years. He’s known as the mayor of Dairy Queen. He could tell you when the steak and gravy is freshest, which biscuits are fluffiest, what time to avoid the red light parking situation. I know that it was also a place that regulars would get their vanilla cones almost every afternoon. I had the pleasure of trying the amazing slaw a few times and being helped by the friendly staff.
And they would always say, ‘Come by any day and we’ll have your peanut butter parfait ready.’ I kick myself that I never tried the strawberry milkshake sooner. So to go to Dairy Queen with my family was my way of making up for that mistake.
Holden Oversoul Kitchen & Oyster Bar

We had a wonderful evening, and we both went for classic coastal dishes. If I’m at an oyster bar, I’m going for the oyster Rockefeller and lobster bisque. That’s exactly what I ordered. And I think my partner got the chicken with maple Dijon glaze and we shared everything and had cucumber vodka martinis. You could tell by just sitting in the cozy dining room that it’s a huge part of the community in North Georgia and it just feels super authentic.
And then you happen to walk out into this beautiful, charming courtyard and it feels kind of like it doesn’t belong in a small town. But it’s a real gem of the neighborhood.
Hangry’s Grill

The squealer burger had such a crispy, magical exterior. You bite into it, and it comes with all the classic fixings so you can build your own perfect burger. The house fries were also incredible—extremely crispy with wonderful potato flavor and almost addictive. It was extremely satisfying.
Old Towne Pub

My friend Sarah and I are weekend explorers, and when we visited Baldwin, we would often drive through the historic downtown area and then take the scenic route by the old mill. We could tell that there were some local spots that were worth checking out, and Old Towne Pub was one of those places. The clean atmosphere and small-town charm immediately drew us in, with its cozy wooden booths and warm lighting that felt just right for a casual meal.
We started with the smoked trout dip—creamy and flavorful—and followed with the Cowboy burger, which was juicy and perfectly cooked, and the fried chicken sandwich with its crispy pita that lived up to the hype. The draft beer selection was solid, with a few local brews on tap that paired well with our food. Our server, Kaitlyn, was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing.
Prices were reasonable, with most dishes around $12–$18, which felt fair for the quality and portion sizes. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good food, and feel welcomed by the helpful staff like Jennifer and Amber. We left planning to return, already thinking about trying the Cuban or Pimento cheese melt next time. If you’re in Baldwin and want a reliable, enjoyable meal with that hometown feel, Old Towne Pub won’t disappoint.
Your Pie Pizza

It has an incredible outdoor seating area. It’s a great vibe. The staff is incredibly kind. They’re really known for their fresh gelato. I tend to not eat dessert when I review places because I need to keep my focus, but it’s one of the circumstances when I was definitely tempted to try their sweet treat. I did have a pizza and it was absolutely delicious. Anytime there’s pizza on a menu, if it’s my first time at that restaurant, I’m gonna get the pizza.
I feel like that’s a really great litmus test of how good the rest of the food’s gonna be. It’s a good first item to order to see where they’re going with the rest of their menu.
Wolf Creek BBQ, Burgers & More

Wolf Creek BBQ was a spot my buddy Jake insisted on, saying, ‘This is absolutely the only barbecue joint worth the drive.’ I let him take charge of the ordering. We got a mixed platter with pulled pork, brisket, and smoked chicken, plus all the classic sides. Jake knew exactly what to ask for, so plates just started arriving at our table. There was a grilled cheese BBQ sandwich that I would never have thought to try, but it was seriously fantastic.
We ended up with plenty to box up and take home that afternoon.
Sarita’s Restaurant

My family used to live right near Baldwin, and my cousin used to work in that same town, so I was always in that area. I would always go for dinner. So it was nice to go for a different meal during the day. Sarita’s has incredible Mexican food, but the thing is, they get very busy. So we did call ahead and ask them to reserve some of their popular dishes for us so that my wife and I could try some of them later in the afternoon.
El Jinete Mexican Restaurant Clarkesville Ga

I think you all had just mentioned El Jinete, so that’s why it was on our list. It’s right in Clarkesville, which I visit often. All the dishes were incredible but the one we were most surprised by was the Pollo Ranchero. The chicken is just so tender and flavorful—it was almost like a stew, really. And the seasonings were just so incredible. I’ve learned that those classic dishes at Mexican restaurants are usually the ones that I’m going to be the most excited by.
I ate chicken every day of my life for so many years. It was the thing that my mom cooked for dinner growing up every day, so to have it elevated and those flavors brought out in such different ways is so special. It reignites my excitement about poultry that I tend to think is a little ordinary. The Shrimp and Tilapia was also incredibly special. My family and I shared that and loved it.
Kaboblicious

I love that the owner makes everyone feel so welcome. In fact, he was greeting regulars at Kaboblicious, checking on tables, and then staying to chat with newcomers. The food has stayed so consistent. We had their Adana special. Their hummus is incredible. Their butter chicken is wonderful. They have a wonderful special on Thursday nights. I think that they still do this, where for like $22, you can get a three-course meal and a Turkish tea.
I used to always go there when I was running low on funds, in-between gigs, because I knew I could get a really nice meal on a Thursday night. There’s always some reason to celebrate being there.
Cottage House Restaurant

This place holds a special spot in my heart. My family and I have been coming here for Sunday breakfast since we moved to Cleveland. We ended up buying a house just a few minutes from the Cottage House, so we visit even more often now. My daughter and I had our first post-soccer game celebration meal at the Cottage House. It’s one of the first places we returned to when we started dining out again after that long stretch at home.
The cafeteria line feels like an extension of our own kitchen, and the staff’s friendly smiles make us feel right at home every single time.
Chicago’s Pizza

Chicago’s Pizza is a restaurant I had never tried before. I am a fan of authentic Chicago-style pizza and I’ve had the real deal in Illinois. And it was a place that my friend had never been to either. I’ve sampled a few pizza spots around Georgia, or at least local favorites, between Atlanta joints, Athens classics, and North Georgia gems. And I love that they take their deep dish seriously and they’re such sticklers for quality ingredients.
In those situations, I let my companion do the ordering. My friend did an excellent job, and also spoke so enthusiastically about the food. The sausage pizza was incredible, the cheesy garlic bread was perfect, and the thin crust tavern-cut squares were exactly what we hoped for. The owners were hands-on, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. It’s clear why this place is busy—the food is genuinely that good.
Yonah Coffee and Cafe

This is a special visit because it was my very first, with my friend Sarah, who I feel incredibly comfortable with. I did not know what to expect. I haven’t gone back to think about that morning much because I’m afraid to remember the awkwardness that I was probably having during that meal. But I have fond memories of that brunch and Sarah making it so easy on me.
And I do remember the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon being incredible and sharing something that we thought was gonna be a simple French toast because we were misunderstanding the menu. And it was the French toast with real maple syrup. Sarah, you know, knows very little about breakfast foods and brunch in general. So it was fun watching her navigate these dishes.
Napoli’s Pizza

I’ve been looking for a place that serves really great pizza. I think with Napoli’s Pizza, I found my place. It was so delicious. It felt very authentic. There are touches that are extremely satisfying. They lead with quality. My friend wanted to try the NY style thin crust. Thin crust is my favorite style to get in a pizza place, and it always makes me so happy. This was no exception. They bake it right enough that the texture is there, but it doesn’t overwhelm you like a cracker would.
It’s a perfect crisp. When I think of chain pizza, I think about those cardboard boxes that people get when they’re, you know, ordering delivery and then regretting it later. That’s where my mind goes. This was done with a lot of care.
El Mexicano

This… place has great Mexican flavors that feel truly homemade. Maria was my second or third server. So I was still figuring out the menu and I was happy to have a friendly face and someone that was so easy to talk to and someone so genuinely helpful. Also, Maria had been craving authentic food after moving from Texas, so it was nice to watch her enjoy the fresh habaneros for the first time.
We had a carne asada burrito, which is incredibly delicious, and the al pastor tacos and the quesadillas. They had really wonderful homemade tortillas.
Los Cerritos Mexican Restaurant

Los Cerritos Mexican Restaurant is so near and dear to my heart. We used to be out-of-towners. We live in Georgia now, but Los Cerritos, I’ve been so many times, which is why when I went with my friend, I ordered the lunch fajitas because I have been so much. On the lunch menu, there’s this delicious carne asada taco that’s just so simple and so good. It comes with fresh salsa and it’s wonderful. They’re known for their margaritas, so every time I go, I get a margarita with salt and lime.
The portions are huge. It’s definitely a treat restaurant. And everything there is, as my friend would say, authentic. It’s all pretty authentic. So I was happy that my friend was there to share it with me.
