Nestled in the rolling hills of western New York, Cuba’s current culinary landscape may have been shaped by generations of dairy farmers and small-town traditions. But today, it’s become both a destination and discovery point for food lovers seeking authentic flavors.
CHINA SEA
$ | (585) 968-1753 | WEBSITE
Make your way to Cuba, New York. The town itself offers a charming small-town atmosphere with local shops and community spaces. If needed, find parking on the street and head over to discover China Sea, a restaurant that has quickly become a favorite for many. This also happens to be home to delicious and excellent food, particularly dishes filled with fresh, crisp vegetables.
The friendly staff provides outstanding service in a welcoming atmosphere, even assisting guests with mobility challenges. Ideal for vegetarians and vegans, it offers options like the tasty Bean Curd Hunan Style. Customers have been impressed with dishes like coconut chicken, steamed dumplings, pineapple chicken, and sesame chicken with lo mein, all noted for their wonderful flavor.
With its fair prices—most entrees around $12–$16—and great flavors that remain hot and fresh even when taken home, it’s a cash-only establishment with an ATM nearby, making it a great choice for takeout or delivery.
Charlie’s
$ | (585) 968-2243 | WEBSITE
Opened in the 1950s, Charlie’s is a classic American diner known for its diverse menu and welcoming atmosphere. To keep the experience authentic, the restaurant maintains its cute 50’s style decor, including vintage touches that create a cozy vibe. The menu features everything from fried foods and pizza to subs and salads, with large portions that offer great value.
A standout item is the Peanut Butter X 3 ice cream sundae, made to each customer’s liking with peanut butter, hot fudge, crushed peanuts, whipped cream, and a cherry. Ice cream is available to enjoy on-site or for take-out, with convenient parking at their location.
Trappers Chicken BBQ
$ | (716) 373-1344 | WEBSITE
I can’t tell you how hard it was to narrow this down to one BBQ joint near Cuba. The other spots – all the local favorites and roadside stands – have their takes on grilled chicken, ribs, and classic sides. But if pressed, I would admit that Trappers Chicken BBQ’s grilled chicken has the freshest, most non-greasy flavor around.
Get it hot off the grill, and you can’t beat the winning combination of the juicy meat with each bite, though the ribs can be a bit dry and the macaroni salad too sweet for some. With easy parking, wheelchair access, and that great park behind the building, it’s the kind of place that keeps families coming back.
Tap-N-Pour
$ | (585) 209-4010 | WEBSITE
After years spent in a corporate office, the first place I sought out after moving to Cuba was a casual spot to unwind with friends. Nearly a year later, Tap-N-Pour has become my go-to for relaxed evenings. Walking into the tap room, it’s hard to ignore the inviting aroma of the housemade pulled pork nachos, for instance.
The staff, friendly and knowledgeable guides through the self-pour process, recommend starting with a flight of IPAs: crisp, hoppy brews poured by the ounce let you sample widely. It all comes together with a gratifying ease.
Carpie’s Grill
$ | (585) 968-2277 | WEBSITE
In 2025, Carpie’s Grill stands as a casual, boat-friendly anchor on Cuba Lake, where it’s been serving locals and visitors for years. Before sunset, you’d see families gathering on the dock, boats pulling in for drinks, and ducks waiting for handouts near the shoreline. For the past season, it’s occasionally been a bit inconsistent with portions, but like Cuba Lake itself, we can expect this treasured spot to bounce back quickly.
Learn more about Carpie’s Grill’s daily specials and dock seating through their lakeside service.
Moonwinks
$$ | (585) 968-1232 | WEBSITE
I go to Moonwinks specifically for a soul-satisfying dose of the tender, flavorful beef short ribs served with risotto and vegetables. Try the classic dish pan-seared scallops over pesto risotto with fresh zucchini, or one of the other delectable entrees like shrimp scampi over rice with sautéed grape tomatoes and zucchini, and Japanese style Sesame crusted Ahi Tuna. If you need a perfect evening out, try their live music three nights a week at just the right sound level.
Murdock’s
$ | (585) 209-4050 | WEBSITE
To round out the Cuba dining scene, stop by Murdock’s for a taste of classic American comfort food and another take on fast-casual dining. The friendly staff, known for their attentive service, used to work in various local eateries, but now deliver consistently tasty food and cheerful consistency. After their original location faced parking challenges, the welcoming atmosphere and reasonable prices helped them maintain popularity in the area.
Our regular visits and conversations with other customers then helped to appreciate their generous portions and painted a picture of a fun environment bringing a bit of that bright community spirit to the space. Their take on monthly changing deep-fried cheese curds hits all the crispy, slightly savory flavors you get from a well-seasoned fryer.
McDonald’s
$ | (585) 968-3935 | WEBSITE
The McDonald’s staff never fail to remind every customer that their food is always served fresh and fast. Within the confines of their efficient drive-thru, the team manages to craft the most satisfying ice cream cones, sandwiches, and shakes (with Happy Meals, of course). The cult favorite is their classic soft-serve cone, with chocolate shakes a close second. My current obsession is their delicious vanilla shake blended with creamy soft-serve and their fresh-cut fries.
But on a busy day, you really can’t beat the quick and friendly service at the counter. It’s the staff’s practical care and attention to detail that keep their regulars coming back. When asked why they’ve maintained such efficient service and continue to bring food to tables for years, the employees answer resolutely, ‘It’s convenient… and always fresh!’
Subway
$ | (585) 968-8742 | WEBSITE
Opened in 1965 by Fred DeLuca, Subway remains one of the most recognizable establishments in Cuba still thriving. Their signature items range from both classic and toasted subs to fresh salads – all made with perfectly crisp vegetables. You can also pick up a range of pizzas, cookies, drinks, and other quick meal options.
The Perfect Blend Coffeehouse & Eatery
$ | (585) 209-5513 | WEBSITE
The Perfect Blend Coffeehouse & Eatery takes after classic American coffeehouses that serve as community hubs. These spots cater to locals looking for comfortable, affordable, and quick meals usually paired with a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. Reflecting the region’s casual dining culture, the menu offers familiar comfort foods with staples like the Old Yorker panini, bacon-egg-and-cheese croissants, and assorted pastries.
This place is also popular with the morning crowd looking for customizable coffee options, breakfast sandwiches, and a warm atmosphere for meeting friends or casual dates.
The Kopper Keg
$ | (585) 968-1523 | WEBSITE
Settle into a booth at The Kopper Keg’s country-style dining room and you’ll discover another comforting thread within American comfort food traditions. The breakfast bowls, by way of hearty morning fare, originate from classic diner culture (translated into “generous portions” by The Kopper Keg), a culinary tradition with a distinct warmth and familiarity separate from fancier establishments.
I happen to have nostalgia for such places myself, and The Kopper Keg’s take on the macaroni and cheese brings me back to the flavors of homemade cooking whose appeal and culinary satisfaction extends across simple pleasures like fish fries and much of their affordable menu.
