It’s a well-known fact that very few places are as effective at battling hunger as a great restaurant. It’s warm, it’s welcoming, and it’s been proven to elevate your mood by almost 100% (don’t fact-check us on that). Which is why, after extensive culinary analysis—AKA eating a bunch of food all at once—we’ve compiled this list of our favorite spots near Kula.
Lineage

At Lineage, the vibrant fusion restaurant in Wailea, Hawaii, the menu celebrates the islands’ culinary heritage with flavors from diverse cultures. The restaurant is not hard to spot—it’s very chic. The standout dishes are consistently incredible, and you’ll always find favorites like garlic Szechuan noodles, Cantonese noodles with lobster, and fried chicken variations including peanut sauce and Korean styles.
Vegetarian options feature oyster mushrooms and vegetables birds nest with fresh veggies and curried sauce. Cocktails include the “Watermelon Sugar” special and a classic mai-tai. Plates are generous, though smaller portions would allow for sampling more variety. Reservations are recommended well in advance, and outdoor seating is preferred for comfort. Pints of signature sauces and cocktail mixes are available at the restaurant, and at local markets and resorts around the island.
Rustic Roses Maui Cakes

Rustic Roses Maui Cakes is about as close as Maui gets to a farm-to-table bakery. They have close to a dozen flavors—mostly made with local, seasonal ingredients—and a single charming location in Kula. A lot of their mainstays are twists on classic cake flavors, like vanilla bean with lilikoi buttercream or chocolate with macadamia nut crunch. But there’s also a whole menu of seasonal creations like guava chiffon and pineapple coconut.
The cakes run about $45 to $85 depending on size and decoration—reasonable for the artistry involved. The space feels like a cozy cottage kitchen with warm lighting and rustic wooden tables where you can watch the magic happen. Jacqueline and Jackie are patient and accommodating, making sure to meet customers’ specific requests for birthdays, elopements, or any special occasion. Each creation is both beautiful and delicious, with equal focus on flavor and presentation.
Grandma’s Coffee House

Grandma’s Coffee House is a cozy spot with traditional home cooking like pumpkin pie squares, coconut French toast, biscuits and gravy, and pineapple coconut bread. All of the coffee and pastries are fresh-made and come in generous portions with beautiful mountain views. They also make their own iced Chai and Americano.
Kula Bistro

You can find all sorts of hearty dishes and creative sides at Kula Bistro, from the rich Lobster Mac’n cheese and crab cake panini to sandwiches like the Prime rib and mahi mahi. Of course, there’s also a nice selection of vegetarian options and desserts to go. But our favorite item might be the Caprese tater tots, a generous plate of crispy potatoes topped with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil. It’s satisfying enough to make you forget you just polished off that entire panini.
Ulupalakua Ranch Store

Ulupalakua Ranch Store is Maui’s own slice of cowboy country. Hearty, flavorful burgers are served from this rustic store in Kula with about the same rugged charm as the ranchlands surrounding it. Patties come seasoned with spices that taste more savory than heavy. We like the elk burger, made with locally raised elk, crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, and tangy sauce. When you need a break from the coastal crowds, this is exactly where you want to be.
MauiWine

Here’s the original wine tasting experience on Maui. Gone are the days when visitors would just pass through without appreciating the estate’s rich history. MauiWine has grown up into a well-oiled tasting machine, but still remains a relaxed, welcoming mainstay of the Maui experience. And with more breathtaking ocean views than we have fingers, you’re probably within a few sips of some excellent wine right now.
STEWZ BURGERS Haleakala

Stewz Burgers serves high-quality burgers made with local Maui beef, creating a meal that’s a little easier to justify after hiking up Haleakala. You start with a perfectly toasty and buttery bun, then choose from whatever toppings they have. It all gets stacked together and served with hot, crispy fries. But if you want something more than beef, they also have tasty options like chicken strips and hot dogs, complete with homemade banana bread, fresh daily, and, of course, rich, smooth coffee.
Mama’s Fish House

Fans of Maui’s stunning coastline might know a thing or two about oceanfront dining. In fact, the island inspired its own real-life take on the concept right here in Kula (there’s a second location near the private beach). Fish is the name of the game here, but it gets the full culinary treatment. It’s served fresh from the water and prepared as mahi mahi, Hawaiian kampachi, or crispy fish collars (with a red curry option), then paired with exceptional appetizers.
If you’re not sure what dishes pair well with a special occasion, you’re not alone. Just choose one of the must-try options, like The Mahi Mahi Curry–a double portion served with warm banana dessert and topped with sea turtle sightings.
Maui Bees Farm

The first time we visited Maui Bees Farm and asked about their honey, Chef James brought out a frame from the hive and explained “these bees right here produce all of our local honey,” and that was when we understood just how dedicated they were to fresh, sustainable, and educational agriculture. And it shows—they consistently serve some of the best coffee drinks on the island.
Their offerings change with the seasons, but if you happen to see their “bee sting” special, do yourself a favor and order it immediately.
Paia Fish Market Restaurant

Tucked away in the bustling town of Paia, the Paia Fish Market Restaurant is one of our favorite seafood spots on the island. Everything is prepared fresh daily, and it shows. The Cajun spiced mahi mahi packs in an intense flavor, and the ono sautéed with rice and coleslaw is about as classic as it comes—with tender fish folded around perfectly seasoned sides.
Grab the seafood pasta with snapper if you need a hearty meal, or just order the fish and chips and try to successfully finish your plate before the Road to Hāna calls.
Kula Lodge Restaurant

All of the dishes at Kula Lodge Restaurant are wonderfully prepared and generously portioned, with a fresh, locally sourced approach that gives each meal a vibrant, authentic taste. The menu highlights regional ingredients and stunning valley views, so expect to enjoy things like fresh fish sandwiches and jumbo prawns on spinach and rice, as well as must-try desserts like the signature lava cake (it’s enhanced by the restaurant’s own garden areas).
The atmosphere is elevated by live background music from talented musicians such as violinists, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a relaxing meal. Visitors often recommend requesting a window table to fully appreciate the beautiful surroundings.
Nui’s Garden Kitchen

Nui’s Garden Kitchen first caught our attention on a list of local favorites, but this charming garden spot is the one we keep returning to. It’s tucked away in what feels like a hidden oasis, with lush greenery and vibrant flowers working in harmony with excellent Thai food to create a truly pleasant dining experience.
Grab a plate of whatever fresh dish they’re featuring that day—perfectly cooked chicken pad thai with vibrant dragonfruit and papaya salad, or something equally satisfying and flavorful—and enjoy the aroma of fragrant curry drifting from the kitchen where owner Kit works his magic.
