Tremonton might not be the first Utah town that springs to mind for a culinary pilgrimage—places like Salt Lake City or Park City often steal the spotlight with their denser grids of dining. But this northern gem isn’t just a pit stop on I-84. Here are the establishments that prove Tremonton deserves a place at your table.
Golden Spike Burgers
$ | (435) 257-6263 | WEBSITE
This classic small-town burger stop in Tremonton serves excellent comfort food—we wouldn’t expect less from a local favorite. Golden Spike Burgers features juicy and tasty burgers with generous portions, as well as actual drive-thru convenience if you want to grab a meal on the go. We can’t say enough about the sides, though, like sweet potato fries or the unique fry sauce.
Stop in for lunch or dinner with the family, but don’t be surprised if you fill up on a strawberry cheesecake shake or the must-try churro sundae.
Tamashi Japanese Sushi Bar 84337
$ | (435) 257-0978 | WEBSITE
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when Japanese sushi gets the friendly neighborhood treatment, first off, let’s grab a seat together. Second, that’s exactly what Tamashi is delivering. The kitchen creates those fresh rolls we know and love, but with a comforting warmth produced by the power of hospitality. If you’re a purist, it’s easy to enjoy their California roll topped with creamy avocado, or the Passion Roll with plenty of sweet eel sauce and the option to add spicy tuna.
(Please exercise this option.) And even though Tamashi only serves a few standout cooked dishes—a honey-glazed, crispy fried shrimp or a steaming bowl of yakisoba—they’re some of the most satisfying plates in Tremonton. Their daily discounted rolls during weekdays are the best deal in town, and the perfect start to a meal here.
The Grille Restaurant
$ | (435) 257-4745 | WEBSITE
The Grille Restaurant is burger central, and one of our favorite places in the entire area to grab a meal. Snag a cozy booth for your entire group of friends, and dig into their excellent pastrami burger while you sip whatever craft beer you want (they have plenty under $30, but don’t mind if you’re just there for the food). You’ll be much happier than you would’ve been at that chain restaurant you almost went to.
Beto’s
$ | (435) 257-2423 | WEBSITE
Beto’s has a lot going on. At first glance, it looks like a straightforward family spot, but then you notice the warm, inviting atmosphere and the friendly staff who greet you with genuine smiles. (Quick, someone get the kids’ meals ready). It’s welcoming, comfortable, and they serve excellent burritos alongside new dessert items like rice pudding and tres leche cake. Come here with your family while enjoying things like a Tremonton burrito or a breakfast burrito cooked to order.
Just make sure beforehand that the queso and chips—not available at all Beto’s locations—don’t disappear before you get a taste.
Twisted Sugar
$ | (435) 278-9649 | WEBSITE
Twisted Sugar is a soda fountain with an important Lime Ricky. It’s acceptable to order it large and tell everyone it’s for the kids, but then promptly pull through the drive-thru and sip on it every few miles with a festive straw. We fully endorse drinking it for lunch, and then again in the afternoon, because pineapple is a snack food. And if fruity drinks aren’t your thing, their lemon tart cookie is equally as delicious.
Soda fixx
$ | (435) 237-7487 | WEBSITE
This soda shop that serves the town’s best frozen lemonade is a local favorite, and our first choice for grabbing a sweet treat, sipping custom drinks, and enjoying popcorn—so head straight here whenever you need a refreshing break from the road. The blue raspberry flavor in the lemonade has a wonderful tang, and it’s even better paired with their salty popcorn. Whether you go with the frozen lemonade, the massive Bear Pride Dr.
Pepper, or a custom drink whipped up by the friendly staff, a soda-fueled stop here is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Subway
$ | (435) 257-5566 | WEBSITE
For a quick lunch break, a customizable meal on the go, or a satisfying sandwich powered by fresh vegetables and quality meats, Subway is the build-your-own spot you should seek out. Piled high with crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and your choice of protein, their Italian B.M.T. with pepperoni, salami, and ham on freshly baked bread is pretty mandatory. So is a side of their classic chocolate chip cookie.
But their turkey breast sub, layered with avocado, spinach, cucumbers, banana peppers, and creamy chipotle southwest sauce on hearty multigrain bread is great, too.
Wendy’s
$ | (435) 257-1441 | WEBSITE
Wendy’s serves a lineup of fast food so consistently satisfying that it’s possible to momentarily forget that other drive-thrus even exist. (But sure, twist our arm with those upgraded breakfast biscuits that could use just a touch more honey butter.) Mounds of taco salad are fresh and safe for dietary needs. Tubes of creamy baked potato offset the grease nicely. And fries, like the best in their category now, have impeccable crispness encasing fluffy interiors.
With gluten-free customizations and surroundings that are efficient without feeling like you’ve been trapped in a chaotic parking lot, it’s a casual evening no-brainer when the shift delivers hot, fresh food with clear communication.
China Express
$ | (435) 257-2845 | WEBSITE
China Express is where you can get tasty Chinese food in generous portions at very reasonable prices. They specialize in dinner combos, and you want one of those with classics—like consistently flavorful General Tso chicken or creamy Walnut Shrimp—as your main. You can also get perfectly cooked beef, crispy egg rolls, or, if you’re really hungry, the dinner combo option which offers great value and plenty of food.
Take full advantage of the helpful food pictures when ordering online, which makes choosing much easier than guessing from a plain menu.
Taco Time
$ | (435) 257-5016 | WEBSITE
We don’t know why Taco Time is always overlooked, but we do know that there’s never a line, so we’ll take it. It’s a simple space with laminate tabletops, a soda fountain, and a salsa bar at every station. The cheese chicken quesadilla is particularly great if you prefer a cheesier, less greasy filling, and you should also get your hands on their burritos, which overflow with seasoned beef and a zippy fresh salsa.
The stuffed mexi fries are a crispy treat, and employees like Dillon go above and beyond with friendly service. It’s fast, clean, and highly recommended, with wheelchair-accessible parking right by the door. Many visitors from out of town have bragged about this place, calling it a reliable spot with the best customer service ever.
Buzzbru Tremonton
$ | (435) 230-3339 | WEBSITE
If you need a place to grab a coffee that’s not too expensive but also not boring, you want Buzzbru Tremonton. It’s a coffee shop with reasonably-priced drinks, delicious paninis, and smoothies that don’t taste like sugar and melted ice. We’ve had some of the best afternoons of our lives getting too emotionally invested in the local artisans’ work displayed here, or the comfortable environment upstairs that’s perfect for working or presenting.
Kristy’s Cakery
$$ | (435) 213-5540 | WEBSITE
Ordering a custom cake for a special occasion usually comes with a lot of pressure—will it taste as good as it looks, will it arrive on time, and will it survive the car ride home? But Kristy’s Cakery is a highly-recommended bakery that’s incredibly useful if you just want a beautiful, delicious cake without any drama. It’s also incredibly useful if you need something last-minute, as they go above and beyond to accommodate urgent orders.
Grab a moist, rich slice of their signature cake alongside their unique designs and exceptional customer service.
Mack’s Family Drive-In
$ | (435) 257-3712 | WEBSITE
If you’re craving a classic American roadside experience without having to hunt for vintage neon or endure pretentious foodie chatter, just pull into Mack’s Family Drive-In, a.k.a. Tremonton’s favorite pit stop, for a quick burger, shake break, or any other road-trip occasion. The nostalgic red-and-white checkered surroundings make this drive-in feel like a hazy memory mashup of American Graffiti, Happy Days, and Grease in the best way possible.
There are $8.99 burger combos served in paper-lined baskets alongside crispy golden fries, strawberry-banana shakes that taste like summer straight from the blender, mint-chocolate-chip frosties that hit just right, and some of the most satisfying fast food in the area—like those burgers loaded with fresh onions and tomatoes, those perfectly salted fries everyone praises, and those shakes that can do no wrong in our eyes. Very much like the title track of a perfect road trip.
Taqueria Elcazador Mexican Food
$ | (435) 720-7758 | WEBSITE
With highlights that range from crispy fried pork carnitas to tender asada tacos, Taqueria Elcazador is a stellar one-stop shop for authentic Mexican flavors. This food bus in Tremonton deserves a mention on this guide for their generous kid quesadillas alone, served hot and fast with large portions that you can and should devour.
But their lineup of burritos, like a chicken enchilada option made with flavorful fillings, or a carnitas mulita with perfectly cooked pork, proves that phenomenal Mexican food doesn’t have to involve complicated sit-down service. But damn, Taqueria Elcazador has great service and atmosphere too.
El Chilito Mexican Restaurant
$ | (435) 230-5877 | WEBSITE
El Chilito makes the best rolled chicken tacos in town. This place provides a friendly and welcoming environment for a pleasant dining experience, so much like a warm family gathering, it’s destined for satisfaction. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable, and doesn’t feel rushed like a fast-food joint, and the kind staff is a sweet complement to the fresh, quality food.
And the keto-friendly options rock too—like a thoughtful touch for those watching carbs that manages to have the flavor and satisfaction of traditional Mexican fare. Give the chips and salsa a try while waiting and dunk the tacos in their house salsa for best results.
J. Brian’s Smokehouse
$ | (435) 291-0203 | WEBSITE
Sometimes you need a good barbecue meal, but the smoked meats at J. Brian’s Smokehouse really act more like a barbecue pick-me-up-and-throw-me-across-the-galaxy-so-I-can-be-among-the-stars. This smokehouse specializes in various types of outstanding smoked meats, from tender pulled pork to brisket that falls apart with a fork. The best thing here, however, is their ribs. The way J.
Brian’s balances smoky flavor, tender meat that falls off the bone, and just the right amount of seasoning makes us want to host a barbecue convention and invite them as keynote speakers. A plate of their fat-free chicken for lunch is pretty much mandatory, but you’ll want some pulled pork or a hunk of brisket to take home later.
La Pasadita
$ | (435) 257-6567 | WEBSITE
Within the unassuming shell of a gas station, La Pasadita quietly dishes out some of the best Mexican food in the region. Their street tacos are essential, asada stays juicy, and simple toppings—cheese and a spicy salsa—lift the meat beautifully. Their impressively straightforward steak quesadilla with melted cheese and fresh tortilla is just as remarkable.
Add some flavorful pozole or a large, hot burrito packed with birria, and you’ve got way more than just a friendly, attentive staff that brings extra sauce and pickled carrots to the table. You’ve got somewhere to plan your trip around on purpose.
McDonald’s
$ | (435) 257-6209 | WEBSITE
A classic fast-food burger is not really a thing in Tremonton, so life gets pretty tough when what you need most is a quick meal with a side of fries. But McDonald’s is doing its part to fill that void—some of the most reliable bites in the area are coming from their family-friendly spot. Their McFlurry is especially stupendous: the Oreo flavor is creamy and rich, with chunks of cookie that we wish they sold by the tub. Or gallon. Your order will be huge no matter what, so share it with a friend.
Or don’t.
Arctic Circle
$ | (435) 257-7428 | WEBSITE
Arctic Circle is one of our favorite fast-food spots in the area. There’s an efficient staff, clean white-tiled counters, bright red retro milkshake machines behind the counter, and a banana milkshake you can liberally enjoy with their halibut and chips. You’ll also find solid customer service and some interesting shakes. Settle in here for a quick meal with some family on a busy weekend for optimal results.
