Every week we scout San Antonio’s newest sports bars, and then we visit as many as we can. And every once in a while, a new spot makes us feel like we’ve found the perfect game-day perch. When that happens, we add it here, to our guide to where you should be watching and eating right now.
Mitchell’s Sports Bar
$ | (210) 979-7720 | WEBSITE
If you’re wondering whether San Antonio still has genuine neighborhood joints, try finding a seat at Mitchell’s Sports Bar on a Friday night, which is tricky even at 4pm before the game starts. The place feels like a classic American rec room, with well-worn pool tables and dartboards casually occupying the corners, and the focus remains on cold beer—think local drafts that arrive frosty and refreshing.
There’s a warm crowd, with regulars who greet Tim the bartender by name and newcomers who quickly feel like part of the family sharing laughs over video games. The welcoming atmosphere wraps you in all the right ways, and simple pleasures like respectful conversations or quiet solitude are a cut above the usual sports bar chaos. Note that the space is fully accessible, if you’re looking to enjoy a night out without any barriers.
Hooters
$ | (210) 558-9464 | WEBSITE
There’s a buzz at Hooters that makes it feel like a comeback story in the making—the Bella and Tatiana team knows how to deliver a solid experience. Set in a clean, lively space with sports memorabilia and big-screen TVs, Hooters is usually full of casual groups and sports fans drinking cold beers and colorful cocktails. The menu is classic American bar food with some standout improvements. Servers bring out perfectly crisp, seasoned fries and amazing sliders that hit the spot.
The wings, however, still disappoint—they’re extremely small with little sauce, lacking the punch you’d hope for. The overall atmosphere shines brightest, especially the personable, attentive service that makes you want to return despite the wing letdown.
The Bend Sports Bar
$ | (210) 290-8138 | WEBSITE
The Bend Sports Bar might be the splashiest sports bar debut San Antonio’s had in years. The service gets up to slow at peak hours, and if you show up on the later side, chances are you’ll find the hybrid bar area packed. (They keep the buzz going with karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which many find awesome.) There’s only crawfish here—and drinks—and they do it with a neighborhood’s touch, courtesy of the attentive bartenders.
The fun vibe gets going with a DJ and music, never dull, playing into a night so welcoming that regulars often ask for the back covered patio area to relax. For the chicken version, they use cheap drink prices, favored for their slightly easier access, in a naturally friendly, clean atmosphere. A dedicated parking area near the entrance offers plentiful and wide spaces, but the move is the hybrid bar area, topped with remarkably fast and friendly service.
McIntyre’s Southtown
$$ | (210) 957-1385 | WEBSITE
Community is what happens when a sports bar and a local brewery decide to team up in a converted Southtown space. On one side is a lively indoor area with multiple TV screens, and out back, a spacious patio with a massive outdoor screen and a popular BBQ food truck. The casual bar food is straightforward and satisfying: local craft beers on tap, smoked brisket sandwiches from the truck that hit that sweet-savory spot, and classic wings with just the right amount of crisp.
The atmosphere, fueled by different sports games always playing, is where the place shines, creating a relaxed environment perfect for conversation. If this is just for casual game-day gatherings, we can’t wait to come back for the next big match.
Twin Peaks
$$ | (210) 236-5437 | WEBSITE
Twin Peaks is one of the most reliably satisfying sports bars in San Antonio. This lively spot feels like a cozy mountain lodge with rustic wood accents and warm lighting that glows from every corner. Head to the bar area, with multiple big screens that feel like a game-day party with full table service. The standout Chipotle chicken is tender and flavorful, coated in a smoky chipotle sauce, and served with crisp fries.
The friendly staff, including Giana, Natalie, Mia, and Johneli G, provides seamless and welcoming attention. Recently, Dom impressed with her incredible attentiveness, and Melanie charmed with her genuine kindness. And the cold draft beer—a refreshing pour of local lager—fits the sports-bar vibe perfectly. It’s crisp, smooth, and satisfying enough to make you forget you’re basically watching the game from your favorite armchair.
Main Street Bar
$ | (210) 305-8889 | WEBSITE
Tucked away in a neighborhood strip center, Main Street Bar feels like a genuine local hideout with its straightforward layout, bustling bar area, and convenient parking. But so is the vibe at this San Antonio sports spot, which is perfect for casual hangs or lively (and definitely boozy) nights with a nostalgic, fun atmosphere. Yuengling is poured fresh on draft for beers that accompany everything from games to cover bands.
Buffalo wings with that classic tangy sauce, and jalapeno poppers with creamy filling and crispy coating, make the most of the bar snacks. The pizza puffs with melted cheese and pepperoni—and more fries—are like spot-on, satisfying bar bites. But it’s the service that really stands out. The bartenders, who are attentive and courteous, offer daily specials that are a steal: cheap drinks, friendly chats, and quick refills that feel like what you would hope from a neighborhood favorite.
BILLY’S Cellar 47 , Sports Cantina
$ | (210) 476-5001 | WEBSITE
If you’ve ever wondered where to find a truly great sports bar without the typical stadium chaos, let us save you some time. Head down to BILLY’S Cellar 47, grab a $10 beer, claim one of the cozy booths, and wait to be impressed. Where so many sports bars miss the mark on atmosphere, BILLY’S gets everything right. It’s a perfectly balanced experience: no overwhelming noise, no pretentious decor, just a lively underground spot with unique character and good music.
The appeal extends to the friendly bartenders, who keep drinks flowing with quick, attentive service, making most impersonal sports bars feel dull in comparison. This small-but-mighty cantina on the San Antonio scene draws large crowds, so expect it to get busier as the evening goes on. Don’t be surprised if you end up staying for hours, but we can assure you it’s worth the visit.
Alibis Sports & Spirits
$ | (210) 225-5552 | WEBSITE
Alibis Sports & Spirits has some of the most affordable and lively bar fun in San Antonio’s outskirts. It’s part of a strip mall location just outside downtown, but the spacious, welcoming atmosphere makes it feel more like a neighborhood gathering spot than a typical dive bar. Up front, multiple pool tables and a relaxed vibe set the tone for a fun night out.
All the essentials are represented and done well, from the reasonable beer prices to the fun karaoke nights on Fridays and live bands on Saturdays, while the staff is exceptionally friendly and the service makes customers feel like family. It’s like the best possible version of your typical local sports bar. You could grab a beer while chatting with the bartenders Holland and Mel, or opt for the shockingly affordable drink specials, which start at $4 for domestic drafts.
But the weekend events might be an even better deal, with karaoke sessions and UTSA after-parties that welcome everyone from all walks of life.
Schooners
$ | (210) 829-8252 | WEBSITE
The vibe at this neighborhood sports bar in San Antonio unfolds like a weekend ritual. Regulars line up for Staci’s signature Miche mix, newcomers rack up for pool games, and groups cheer on the game over cold beers, while classic rock plays on the speakers and the scent of fresh popcorn drifts from behind the bar. The atmosphere here feels welcoming, but never forced. Darts tournaments get competitive with friendly banter, high-fives, and good-natured rivalries.
The clean, nice environment is infused with the warmth of a local hangout and lit up with multiple screens showing every game. And it all comes with that hidden-gem charm. Round up your most sports-loving friends, claim the table near the big screen, and get ready to stay for another round.
Ice On Fire Sports Bar
$ | (210) 701-8096 | WEBSITE
Ice On Fire Sports Bar has been drawing crowds since it opened, and it’s easy to see why: this local spot (self-crowned the ‘King of Sports Bars’) serves drinks so well-crafted they feel like liquid velvet. The bartenders are the ones you’ll remember days later, though you should also sneak in a game of pool—smooth, satisfying, with a satisfying clack of balls.
Karaoke is another sleeper hit, especially the weekend sessions with a lively crowd that’ll have you grabbing the mic for every last song. Inside, the bar is dimly lit and feels a bit like a classic neighborhood hangout, but between the friendly staff, reasonable prices, and frosty cold beers, the atmosphere would shine in any setting.
Idle Beer Hall & Brewery
Idle Beer Hall & Brewery hits it out of the park with its converted industrial space on Brooklyn Ave downtown. The $6 craft beers and $10 creative cocktails at this casual-but-fun sports bar make it one of the most affordable happy hour spots in town, and also more relaxed than the usual crowded pub scene.
You get a bit of everything, including stellar service from knowledgeable bartenders and a great selection of fresh brews, but it’s worth adding a few games or upgrades: maybe a round of skeeball, some steel tip darts that really let the competition sing, and definitely the giant Connect 4 in the shared courtyard.
Settle in at one of the family-friendly tables alongside all the other after-work gatherings and social celebrations, then grab a glass of your favorite local IPA, and head over to the pool table for some friendly competition when you’re done.
