Come to this restaurant for a very special occasion—just don’t plan on having quiet conversation in the main dining area when the Friday night DJ is playing.
Black Angus Steakhouse

Black Angus Steakhouse has been serving Mesa for over 20 years, but the original location, with its elegant low-lit dining room and classic steakhouse ambiance, remains one of our favorite spots for a reliably great steak dinner. They have a solid selection of cuts, but the sweet spot is their New York Strip and Filet Mignon, both cooked perfectly to medium-rare and priced around $40 to $60, which feels like excellent value for the quality.
You can order sides a la carte as well, and the friendly, efficient staff, like the standout server Kalissa, provide that old-fashioned great service experience that keeps customers coming back.
DC Steak House

DC Steak House in Mesa makes excellent steaks and seafood, and you’ll have to book a table in advance to try it. But once you’re seated, you’ll feel like a regular, privy to steakhouse secrets you had only imagined before. Choose between the perfectly cooked NY steak, which comes with a rich, savory crust, or the flavorful Walleye Pike with its delicate texture. Bring another person so you can try both.
They’ve recently added Wisconsin-inspired items to the menu, though the jalapeno cheese curds could use some work. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable, offering personalized recommendations that enhance the upscale atmosphere. While the outdoor seating might not be as romantic due to noise from neighboring restaurants, the overall dining experience is a treat, with the amazing Lobster Mac being a standout.
It’s a spot that delivers consistently excellent food and great service, making it a must-visit in Mesa.
Charleston’s Restaurant

From the team behind some of Mesa’s most reliable dining spots, this steakhouse still has the warm lighting and comfortable booths of the classic American restaurant that’s been in this location for years. They also kept the commitment to quality, which they showcase with perfectly cooked steaks (and some creative grilled dishes). Enjoy generous portions like the Dynamite Shrimp, Cream Spinach Artichoke Dip, and prime rib steak.
It’s smart enough to make a reservation, and you should start your meal with their excellent spinach dip.
Roka Akor – Scottsdale

This sleek, modern steakhouse in Scottsdale serves elevated Japanese-inspired fare like delicate butterfish appetizers, and perfectly cooked Wagyu tenderloin on elegant plates—and everything costs less than $65. There are plenty of tables, but this spot works better as a special occasion destination. The miso black cod is one of our favorite bites, with flaky, tender fish, subtle miso glaze, and a buttery texture that has enough richness to counter its own subtlety.
Grab an order of salmon maki; the sushi rolls are fresh and balanced, with just the right amount of avocado creaminess.
The Peppermill: Steakhouse and Cocktail

The Peppermill: Steakhouse and Cocktail in Phoenix has a deceptively charming atmosphere that makes it a favorite spot, with a cozy vibe that feels like a hidden gem. From the owners behind this successful venture, this spot also serves top-notch bar service, with skilled bartenders making great martinis, and has a relaxing atmosphere perfect for date night.
Toca Madera Scottsdale

If you’re looking for the best ratio of celebration energy to restaurant square footage, go to Toca Madera Scottsdale. The Scottsdale steakhouse is the size of a grand ballroom, and serves cocktails like the espresso martini and guava margarita that pack the exact punch of a fireworks display. The lively spot also does a few other dishes really well, like jalapeño corn bread, sashimi Mexicano, and a more reasonably sized chicken and waffles.
Frashers Tavern

Frashers Tavern isn’t a speakeasy, but the fact that you have to find it tucked away in old town Scottsdale makes it feel like one. The steakhouse has a nice selection of wines, with happy hour specials and classic cocktails, so it’s a great spot to explore your taste in drinks. The menu ranges from things like $14 toasted raviolis, to a $48 ribeye steak cooked to perfection, with generous portions perfect for taking leftovers home.
The bourbon-infused chocolate pecan pie is a must-try dessert, though it’s good to check for weekend specials like prime rib as they may run out early. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing great service in a relaxing and quiet atmosphere that’s a little too dark but adds to the old-style charm. While not ideal for very young children due to the bar setting, it’s a hidden gem for those seeking delicious food at reasonable prices.

Mesa isn’t supposed to have elegant steakhouses where you can savor a perfect NY strip with a spectacular valley view for under $150. Yet here we are. J&G Steakhouse is an exceptional, relatively expensive establishment that makes other restaurants in the area look like fast-food chains.
If you find yourself near the valley in need of a memorable, exquisite dining experience, grab a great booth overlooking the sunset and eat some perfectly cooked steak with French onion soup or a ginger margarita.
Outback Steakhouse

Get some hot and fresh ribs and steak, then move on to the hard-to-beat lunch menu to soak up the energetic and fun vibe.

This historic downtown Chandler steakhouse claims to be one of the 20 best steakhouses in Mesa, AZ for 2025. At Elliott’s, the 16oz ribeye runs about $48, but if that’s beyond your appetite, you can still get excellent short ribs with pasta, as well as juicy pork chops, and whatever other specials like venison or seafood pasta they feel like featuring from the kitchen. Take your meal to the cozy tables inside with a view of the extensive bar.
STK Steakhouse

If we had to pick one spot for a celebratory dinner for the rest of our days, it would be STK Steakhouse. This Mesa gem has a sleek, modern vibe, with low lighting and a lively hum. Start with the oysters or tuna tartare to share, then dive into the Chilean sea bass or the NY Strip from their steak night deal—don’t skip the oversized tater tots. The lobster pasta is rich and satisfying, and the octopus salad packs a flavorful punch.

Grab a seat at the bar for cocktails, or settle into the sleek, rustic dining room for dinner.
The steak has a perfectly seared crust and tender, juicy interior—and the complimentary dessert you might receive on a special occasion is a delightful touch. Bourbon & Bones also has a second, quieter space in the North Building.
Cholla Prime Steakhouse & Lounge

Cholla’s $65 ribeye includes everything from a Caesar salad to garlic mushrooms to potatoes au gratin: a generous plate of protein, sides, and flavor. Be wary about the appetizers as some are pricey, and not super worth it. But simply being in the dimly lit lounge, watching the glow of the casino lights filtering through whenever a server refills your water glass, makes Cholla an extremely solid place for a night out.
A meal here really is the embodiment of “dinner and an experience.”

You could come to The Stockyards Steakhouse just for the atmosphere—they have enough nostalgic charm and classy comfort to keep a generation of steak lovers satisfied. But you most likely made a reservation at this historic spot, and probably worked up quite an appetite. So while you’re on the best Mesa date of your life—in a room filled with rich history, being tended by engaging busboys—get a plate of their parmesan potatoes.
They’re crispy, flavorful, and a perfect complement to whatever you’re eating.
LongHorn Steakhouse

The vibe at LongHorn Steakhouse couldn’t be more different than a fine-dining spot, but the steaks are just as satisfying. This reliable steakhouse in Mesa has straightforward pricing, with most entrees falling between $25 and $45—the full rack of ribs with that delightful smokey flavor runs about $32. You can build your own meal with classics like the flavorful sirloin, loaded baked potatoes, and tasty shrimp (though adding sides does bump up the check).
The spacious dining room has that comfortable, well-lit feel with plenty of booths and tables, and the ample parking makes it easy. The staff is amazing and awesome, with attentive managers and efficient servers keeping everything running smoothly.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill

The first time you visit this steakhouse specialist in Mesa, make a beeline for the seafood section and get their signature sea bass with pilaf. It’s an extremely satisfying dish, with perfectly cooked fish and flavorful rice complementing each other beautifully (which pairs well with their great bread). The second time you go to Firebirds, you should probably do this again, unless you’re celebrating a special occasion.
In that case, try the Spinach and Salmon Salad, served with generous portions and outstanding service.
