Katy’s fortunate to have Akashi—it’s tough to find sushi this consistent without having to compromise on value or atmosphere.

Hone in on the Pina colada smoothie, a creamy stunner blended with, no surprise, tropical fruit.
Ichiban

But what makes Ichiban stand out is its celebratory energy—we’d feel just as comfortable swinging by for an impromptu solo bowl of miso soup as we do making a reservation with someone we’ve shared a birthday with for four years. The hibachi is great, the drinks are satisfying, and the fire tricks keep everyone smiling.
And if the conversation reaches a lull, you can watch the chef interact with the kids as the grill sizzles away.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

The casual family-friendly restaurant does Japanese classics we’d like to wallpaper a minivan with—the Tiger Roll is both fresh and flavorful, the Dynamite Roll is like a sucker punch of spice, and you’ll want to guzzle the velvety miso soup through a straw. Just note that the lunch specials offer great value, so grab a bento box or expect to share with the table.
Toyama Sushi & Ramen

Toyama is one of the newer sushi spots in Katy. The dining area is compact and clean, with a handful of simple tables that can fit all the rolls you’ll want to try here. The fresh nigiri combo is a must, along with the excellent chicken ramen and savory takoyaki balls. As an added bonus, the friendly spot is one of the few in this area with a kid-friendly menu and affordable prices around $5 to $14.
Fusion Wok Sushi and Stir Fry

Fusion Wok Sushi and Stir Fry is the neighborhood’s sushi and stir-fry haven. The rolls coming out of this confidently run counter hit the ideal balance between fresh fish, perfectly seasoned rice, and creative toppings. Signature items, like the 1463 roll and chopped scallop nigiri, along with other Asian standbys including chicken and broccoli and crab rangoons, are all fantastic.
