We’ve yet to have something here that wasn’t packed with flavor, from the hot, crispy carne fries to the exceptional steak and cheese quesadillas. While some dishes may be inconsistent, many find the food authentic and delicious, making it a go-to spot for Mexican cuisine.

Casa Amado Taqueria in Pontiac is cozy enough for a quick Tuesday bite, but also flavorful enough that your whole family can swing by after soccer practice to celebrate a win. Instead, this Pontiac restaurant serves fantastic and delicious tacos with healthy options and a standout sour cream sauce. Their eye-catching, chef’s way street tacos, available for just $10 on Taco Tuesday with many recommending the ground beef, are a flavorful and generous icon.
But when they’re in such good company, like the chef’s chicken burrito with green cholula or the fresh guacamole and tortillas, choosing a favorite from the menu can feel like asking a parent to pick a favorite child.
Motor City Tacos

With its bustling market atmosphere, authentic Mexican grocery vibe, no-frills tables, and convenient location in Waterford, this taco spot is perfect for a Big Taco Night Out. More classic-leaning tacos like chorizo with fresh cilantro or spicy carnitas are excellent. But save some appetite for the less common ones—we couldn’t stop talking about Motor City Tacos’ birria tacos for weeks.

This popular Pontiac taco joint only has a handful of signature tacos, but all of them are consistently tasty. Their creative chicken bacon ranch taco with street corn guac is the type of combination we might ditch our dinner plans for (don’t tell our friends). Their well-priced margaritas might make purists cringe, but that just means more intricate liquor wall designs, beautiful hand-done artwork, and friendly service for us.
The atmosphere is also inventive and fun, with servers like Ivan, Sydney, and Mackenzie providing attentive care before you even ask.
MESHICO Tacos and Tequila

If you haven’t tried MESHICO Tacos and Tequila yet, you’re missing out on something special. It’s a vibrant, lively spot in Pontiac with fantastic Mexican tacos and fajitas. Start out with the Mexican Pizza (it’s a must-try for $14) and some cactus for the table (our favorite comes with a spicy salsa verde). Then round things out with tacos, like the spicy chicken or one of the fresh daily specials.
If you can still move after eating all of that, head to the bar for one of their amazing margaritas during happy hour.

All of their authentic tacos are incredible, whether you’re grabbing a plate of well-seasoned al pastor for yourself or sharing a massive quesadilla packed with chorizo with friends (the carnivorous combo of abundant meat and grilled perfection warrants reinforcements).
Plus, if you’re at the counter, you get a front row view of the staff preparing fresh tacos and tomatillo salsa that’ll inspire you to immediately plan another visit.

Everything we’ve said about the best birria in Michigan holds true for Birrieria el Zacatecano. This vibrant restaurant with plenty of colorful seating is the opposite of bland, but it’s a fantastic choice if you’re craving delicious tacos and want to taste and be satisfied. The taco options rotate with daily specials, but we’ve yet to find a bad one. Definitely get the hearty quesobirria taco trio, a longtime staple that’s also one of the best tacos in Pontiac.
EM – Employee Meal

This casual Birmingham spot specializes in delicious Mexican food, and you can find it tucked away near Market Northend. Order the mahi tacos, ceviche with warm chips, or the Birria dish, and then grab a table. Whichever you choose, throw in some of their churro cheesecake to go with it. Also worth noting: There’s a pleasant outdoor patio if you want a seat close to the friendly atmosphere.
