In Baltimore, a great wine bar is as essential as a crab feast at Faidley’s. Whether you’re celebrating an Orioles win or just need a refined escape, finding the perfect spot requires local knowledge. From cozy nooks with natural pours to sleek spots with small plates, Charm City delivers. We’re not suggesting you attempt a bar crawl of all 13, but here’s where we’d start if you did.
The Bygone
$$$$ | (443) 343-8200 | WEBSITE
This rooftop may be Baltimore’s undisputed harbor-view champion, but the crab dip here is no slouch either. It’s generously portioned, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. This makes each bite—loaded with its rich crab meat, savory cheese blend, and subtle Old Bay spice—delightfully indulgent with a hint of coastal flavor (which we can’t get enough of). Plus, the fresh oysters served alongside it give each mouthful a briny, refreshing contrast.
Grand Cru Bottle Shop
$$ | (667) 212-4847 | WEBSITE
If Baltimore residents had to pick just one spot to unwind for the foreseeable future, many would likely choose Grand Cru Bottle Shop in Belvedere Square. Sure, the impressive selection of mezcal and sotol draws serious attention, but their creative cocktails like the Baijiu and egg white drink also contribute to the appeal. It’s served in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff that makes each visit feel welcoming.
The newer bar area and outdoor seating never seem sufficient on a pleasant day, but they do have us contemplating a regular commitment to this neighborhood gem.
Tagliata
$$$ | (410) 244-5830 | WEBSITE
Since opening, Tagliata has become the go-to place for handmade pasta and a must for steak enthusiasts in Baltimore. The acclaimed restaurant only serves one style of steak: a perfectly cooked cut that’s tender, flavorful, and the presentation is stunning without being overdone. Rumor has it that they serve dozens each evening alone, but it’s popular with locals and visitors every night of the week.
Riverside Taphouse
$$ | (667) 210-2110 | WEBSITE
Riverside Taphouse in Federal Hill should be on your list for lighter ales and generous portions. But it would be a mistake not to order their decadent Crab Nachos. The flavor can change, depending on your point-of-chip entry. A chunk of crab here, edges of melted cheese there. But it all boils down to a bite full of rich seafood goodness, plus a bit of spice at the finish. They’re baked enough to have crisp edges, but would still be a finalist in the most satisfying shareable competition.
Limoncello Baltimore
$$$ | (443) 708-1540 | WEBSITE
Limoncello Baltimore is one of the best spots in the city to enjoy classic Italian cuisine. And the restaurant’s beautiful outdoor deck is worth the visit on a breezy night if you’re looking for a lovely atmosphere. The food here is spectacular without being pretentious. When you try one of their favorites, the lobster ravioli, you’ll taste a perfect balance of richness and freshness in each delicate bite.
Fadensonnen
$$ | (443) 955-4817 | WEBSITE
You won’t be forced to take your drinks from Fadensonnen home—the Baltimore spot has a lively outdoor beer garden if you’d like to enjoy them outside. While there are plenty of cocktails for you to choose from, you can’t go wrong with the Amaro. The drink is satisfyingly sweet and the atmosphere feels right with laughter and good company.
Daniela Restaurant
$$ | (443) 759-9320 | WEBSITE
The lobster mushroom ravioli at Daniela Restaurant is worth forgetting everything you learned about portion control as an adult. It’s cooked perfectly, and instead of having a heavy cream sauce, the filling melts in your mouth like warm butter. It comes with a simple salad, and a choice of three desserts: strawberry tiramisu, panna cotta with raspberry sauce, or a pastry filled with Nutella and banana. You can skip them all, since the savory richness is satisfying enough to stand alone.
If you really want something sweet to finish with, go with the light panna cotta and strawberry tiramisu.
Le Comptoir du Vin
$$$ | (443) 297-7384 | WEBSITE
Le Comptoir du Vin is the place to come for seafood that’ll help you forget about the current Baltimore weather. The dishes at the French bistro are inventive, super flavorful, and come as small plates, so you don’t have to make the impossible choice between Franco-Mediterranean entrees. Order them paired with wines from the fairly priced list (if you can’t stand the creative cocktails) and stare at the charming atmosphere nearby.
Mera Kitchen Collective
$$ | (443) 681-9855 | WEBSITE
Burgers and fries are fine, but we’re not sure why the habanero tamarind burger isn’t everyone’s first choice. We had this realization after trying the standout dish at Baltimore’s Mera Kitchen Collective, a restaurant that brings together a beautiful mix of cultures. Expect a juicy patty smothered in spicy habanero tamarind sauce and then topped with crisp vegetables. It never feels heavy, has a satisfying kick, and has just enough sweetness to keep you reaching for your wine.
The Prime Rib
$$$$ | (410) 539-1804 | WEBSITE
The Prime Rib’s signature prime rib takes up most of the plate, with a perfect sear that locks in all the juices. This cut spends time getting a little smoky on the grill before it’s served with its natural au jus, then topped with a sprinkle of fresh herbs. And while the horseradish sauce is nice, you really don’t need any extra seasoning. This generous portion is already dripping with rich, savory flavor.
Johnny’s
$$ | (410) 773-0777 | WEBSITE
Johnny’s offers a range of traditional American dishes with a southern twist, and all of them go beyond the typical breakfast and burger options with items like Kiko’s Loco fried rice, fried oysters, and crab bisque. Meals come in generous portion sizes, and if you’re into cozy spots, the dark speakeasy ambiance is the way to go. If the bustling atmosphere gets too much for you, their outdoor patio near the historic north Baltimore location may help you relax (at least mentally).
La Scala
$$$ | (410) 783-9209 | WEBSITE
Since the handmade pasta and branzino at La Scala are so exceptional, the grilled Caesar might seem like a simple starter. But there are several reasons you should begin your meal with this Baltimore gem: it’s crisp, flavorful, and perfectly dressed every time. Whatever your dining preference is, you can choose from gluten-free pasta options, spicy penne vodka, and the specials of the night, including a batch they call ‘the best in the city.’
V-NO Wine Bars
$ | (410) 342-8466 | WEBSITE
Baltimore has no shortage of excellent wine bars, and V-NO Wine Bars is one of them. One of the major reasons why is the outside seating by the water. It’s set up with cozy chairs and string lights, creating a vibe that’s perfect for relaxing. Sipping wine there is up there with Baltimore’s favorite pastimes, like watching the boats drift by in Fells Point.
