Life would probably be more refined if we casually uncorked a bottle like a scene from a film where every conversation sparkles with sophistication. That’s why wine bars are so essential—we get to set aside the ordinary for an evening and explore a curated world of vintages for no reason other than pure delight. Whether you’re craving a bold Cabernet to pair with artisanal cheeses or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc to toast new discoveries, Cleveland pours out a perfect glass for every palate.
Flight Cleveland
$$ | (216) 400-6867 | WEBSITE
This cozy wine bar is tucked away in Cleveland, and hits all the right notes for an ideal evening out—it’s quiet and intimate with generous pours of wine. It’s also where we’ve tasted the most unique selection of wines we’ve ever encountered. If you consider yourself a casual wine drinker and think you know your pinots, be prepared: the offerings here are seriously impressive. Also take note that if you ask for a recommendation—you might receive a knowing smile and a perfect pour from Victor.
TURN Bar + Kitchen
$$$ | (216) 623-1300 | WEBSITE
It’s easy to miss TURN Bar + Kitchen since its only evidence of existence is a discreet sign on the sixth floor of the Ritz-Carlton. Up the elevator at this downtown Cleveland spot is an abundance of wine, elegant seating that’s perfect for pre-game drinks, and a warm, comfortable atmosphere that feels thoroughly appropriate for its location near the arena. Is the corn bisque rich and velvety? Yes. Will the generous portion of berries and cream leave you satisfied? Yes.
Will servers like Mary, who’s been there 35 years, make you feel like a regular? Also yes.
La Cave Du Vin
$$ | (216) 795-5595 | WEBSITE
If you’re looking for a cozy spot to unwind with a glass of wine, head to La Cave Du Vin. It’s a charming little wine bar where you’ll find a warm, inviting atmosphere and excellent drinks like the Sante Fe—which tastes like sipping a smooth espresso martini with just the right kick. The only thing to note here is that it’s extremely popular for both pre-dinner drinks and after-dinner relaxing moments.
If you’re still set on coming here on a weekend, the small plates like the Smoked Salmon Canapés are perfect for sharing. Show up early for a quiet evening and you won’t have to wait for a seat.
Opal On Pearl
$$ | (216) 417-2030 | WEBSITE
You don’t want to endure a stuffy, pretentious lounge where the cocktails cost more than your rent, but you don’t want to settle for a bland, forgettable spot, either. Opal On Pearl is the happy medium. This Pearl Street restaurant’s artsy yet unpretentious atmosphere is romantic enough for a memorable date night, but not so formal that you’d feel out of place sharing a laugh over shareable plates.
You could also simply sit at the large square bar to enjoy a reasonably priced fancy cocktail with no intention of ordering a full meal at all. Speaking of those cocktails, we’d say to come back for the weekly rotating desserts, but they’re not always available, so you can safely skip waiting around for them.
The Fairmount Cocktail Bar
$$ | (216) 229-9463 | WEBSITE
We’re not sure who decided to pair a cozy fireplace lounge with a spacious patio and TV, but there’s something wonderful about watching a game while sipping a creative cocktail. The outdoor seating is available at The Fairmount Cocktail Bar, the comfortable neighboring space to the indoor lounge. Just note that the kitchen serves until 10pm, but the bar stays open until midnight, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy another drink after those truffle fries.
Vino Volo
$$ | (216) 265-2725 | WEBSITE
If you’re a frequent flyer or just want to escape the airport chaos while you sip a thoughtful wine flight, Vino Volo is the Cleveland Airport spot for you. Their service happens with consistent friendliness, and they’ll occasionally remember your name if you’re a regular traveler, which isn’t scored by how fancy you order, but how relaxed you feel after you finish that last glass with a menu description and everything.
Just be aware that if some business traveler shows up with an entire laptop and orders the spicy ham pizzette, they’re probably going to enjoy it, no matter how well you pair that arugula and tuna salad with your pinot noir. You know the one.
Euphoria Restaurant & Oxygen Lounge
$$ | (216) 938-5232 | WEBSITE
Say what you will about Cleveland’s weather and LeBron James, but Euphoria is objectively the best thing to come from Ohio. (OK, and maybe the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.) At this spot, there are two guarantees: you will hear something loud, and you will have the time of your life. Bowling happens right up front next to a huge, energetic lounge area, which means folks three welcome shots-deep will be cheering for your gutter ball instead of mindlessly staring at you.
It also means that the DJ will play actual dance tunes between bowling rounds. And there’s simply no greater thrill than digging into those chicken quesadillas on full flavor after someone butchers a karaoke song so badly it hurts your ears.
LULO Kitchen & Juice Bar
$$ | (216) 929-1053 | WEBSITE
For a Friday night dining experience that’s just as vibrant as it is welcoming, LULO Kitchen & Juice Bar in Cleveland is a standout. The wait for a table at this hidden gem isn’t terribly long, there’s a good mix of lively chatter and people who don’t mind sharing the cozy space, and you can savor warm empanadas from the appetizer menu between sips.
As a bonus, servers like Camila, Rafa, and Sebastian also make everyone feel equally at home, with every single dish followed by a genuine smile even if you’re still deciding between the carne asada and the chorizo and patacones.
Bin 216
$$ | (216) 860-0530 | WEBSITE
Apparently, the “216” at Bin 216 stands for “Cleveland’s best wine and small plates.” There should be a “P” in there, too, because pierogi at this paradise for food lovers is extremely satisfying. The dining area is separated from the lively bar scene, so you can dip in and out depending on your appetite. (Hopefully your appetite involves Sicilian flatbread.)
Collision Bend Brewing Company Cleveland
$$ | (216) 273-7879 | WEBSITE
Maybe you’re a craft beer enthusiast looking for a waterfront spot to unwind after work. Or, maybe you have friends visiting from out of town and want to show off Cleveland’s Flats district. In either case, Collision Bend Brewing Company is the perfect place for enjoying great drinks without worrying about pretension because the atmosphere is genuinely fun and relaxed.
However, since this nautical-themed brewery has pinball machines scattered throughout the space, don’t be surprised if you hear the clatter of flippers while you sip a Blackberry Sunset Fruited Wheat Ale without distraction.
